An Investigation of Korean Design Based on the Formation Process of Italian Design (이탈리아 산업디자인의 형성과정에 근거한 한국적 디자인 고찰)

  • Italian industrial design influences strong impression worldwidely by their identity of free style, unique and artistic character, and get a very important status in aspect of the history of design and economy. Also, italy has many common feature with Korea in the geographic back- ground, character of history, culture, and nationality that is well-oriented by emotion, and it seems to be formed a valuable study. This study is based on the book 'Italian Design Through Generations' by kazuko Sato and tried to examine the character of Italian design by searching history, exam- ples, representative designers and enterprises of Italy, and to draw some lesson from it for establishiment identity of Korean design by reflecting to the origin character of Korea. Also, this study aims to inspect change of the civilization paradigm which is entering new aspect, and to suggest an ablity of our origin character and direction of the development.

  • Design education has been developed on the basis of higher education and continuing education for professional designers. This professional education has been regarded as a top priority in order to establish the discipline of design and status of designers in the society for the birth of design as a new discipline. Education of designers, however, should not be limited within the professional education led by higher education system. In order to educate designers having the competitiveness for the 21st century, it is necessary to expand the range of design education from higher education to general education by developing new programs. This paper is designed to investigate the importance and characteristics of 'Design-Based Education' by emphasizing design educational methods which are applied to the general education. As case studies, the current educational situations of England and United States of America are analyzed on the basis of their efforts and children's education programs. This study will provide the fundamental guideline for the development of K-12 design education in Korea.

  • The foundation courses of industrial design from Bauhaus to today is, a delivery room of modern industrial design, played an essential role of the image formation in the current German design. In the foundation courses of industrial design that is required in our society, not only the concept gestalt should be understood, approached to industrial design through the integrated meaning of science and culture. In this paper, the historical establishment background of gestalt universities that contributed enormously to the development of German industrial design was analyzed, and then tried to understand the fundamentals of German design education. Also the results of the foundation courses at Bauhaus, Vim university and current German gestalt universities are compared to the products, which illustrates a typical German Image. With this comparison, the importance of the role of the basic design education was recognized, and using the results the necessary direction of the foundation courses in Korean industrial design was presented.

  • The purpose of this study is to create design education program for enlightenment of creativity in young child. We studied preschool education professionals for perspective of design education in young child. So the study contents of our paper are design education for enlightenment of creativity in young child. Preschool education professionals recognized that design education work unsystematic manner in present education program. They recognized the important factor for enlightenment of creativity in young chid. They need a relevant and contents for design education issues. Our studies show that they realized an absence of the perception of design education and design education professionals for young child. They could not distinguish between the conventional art activities and design activities. So they required a design teaching aids. We realized that they are respond to the design education in young child positively. Our study states that preschool education professionals need a contents of design education and development of a relevant programs for young child.

  • After the establishment of the world's first design museum in London, design museums have - despite the criticism regarding commercialization and centralization - contributed to improving both the quality of life and the national competitiveness in establishing a design identity and promoting the excellence of design by preserving and cultivating the design industry. With the increase in the value of design in the cultural economy of the 21$^{st}$ century, the need for Korean design museums has been growing. Given this, the purpose of this study is to serve as a fundamental basis in introducing a new role and direction for future Korean design museums. In order to provide a foundation for such innovation, the evolved role and the promotional strategies of design museums are examined through the diachronic and synchronic approaches.

  • The design consultancy, with the development of economic integration, globalization of industrial design, technology revolution in the world and social economy, has come into being and grown gradually, which has injected new energy for the innovation of products and the expansion of new markets. Meanwhile, designers' function and their means to create value have started to diversify, instead of the single one, designing products only. As far as the thesis is concerned, it introduces relevant literature first so that basic concept, classification and etc. of the present design consultation are given. Second, with the help of certain research in advance, it shows the growth and the trend of design consultancy in UK, Japan and South Korea, as well as designers' progress and the diversion of their function with economy development. Finally, the conclusion is given on the basis of the ambiguity of designers' function in industrial design consultation in present corporations. Besides, it points out what roles are likely to be played by designers, as the planner of the whole project, the maker of the strategy, the provider of the whole program, the guide of clients and the supplier of related database, while providing industrial design consultation.

  • In order to suggest the utilization measures suitable of the 4th industry and design right in the management of jewelry company and also applying it to Korean jewelry industry, Also, the current status of Korean jewelry industry and design right was researched. Based on the theoretical background, the hypotheses were set up. After conducting a survey on the 4th industry, design right, management mind, and management intention targeting jewelry industry workers focusing on the set-up hypotheses. In the results The job currently working for in the jewelry industry and the job desired in the future were the design with the highest ratio, so that the importance of design was high in Korean jewelry industry. Also, design was the first priority of management mind, important elements of jewelry industry management, and successful management strategy while technology showed a bit less importance than factors of marketing, capital, and personal connections.
