  • As interest in eco-friendly architecture and Korean traditional culture is increasing, interest in contemporary han-ok is steadily increasing. Recently, many people experienced the han-ok directly and indirectly with the attention of a commercial contemporary han-ok such as restaurants, coffee shops, and lodging facilities, and as a result, the house has a preference for the residence of the contemporary han-ok. Compared to modern residential houses, however, han-ok is lack the convenience of heating and cooling, energy management, security, and maintenance. For this reason, the increased interest and preference for han-ok does not lead to living in contemporary han-ok. This study was conducted in the following ways to improve inconvenience by applying smart home services to contemporary han-ok. Recent technology trends in smart home services and technologies developed and marketed to date have been identified in previous research cases and literature studies. Based on this, a list of smart home services and their application methods were derived that would relieve the inconvenience of contemporary han-ok for smart home services. We hope that this research will serve as a reference for subsequent researchers studying contemporary han-ok.

  • The purpose of this study was to develope the Contemporary Han-ok based on the natural environment characteristics of mountainous territory in Gangwon-do. According to the result of this study, Eco-friendly Contemporary Han-ok adaptable to the natural environment feature focused on the local climate was proposed based on the tradition of mountainous territory housing in Gangwon-do. In addition, proposed Mountainous Han-ok in Gangwon-do planned to keep the out feature of traditional Korean Han-ok and have the environmental control system same as traditional Korean Han-ok. Despite of several limits, this study has the meaning in terms of propose the prototype of adaptable contemporary han-ok based on the Natural Environment Characteristics of Mountainous Territory and regional tradition in Gangwon-do in cognition of local natural environment difference. the proposal of contemporary han-ok as the result of this study will give a support to the wide planning of Han-ok and the development plan of contemporary Han-ok.

  • Wooden houses are classified into Traditional, Modern, Platform, Timber framing types. The most popular type is Platform framing which is come from foreign culture. The foreign and Korean tree structure tend to be incompatible with Korean culture and don't fit well with modern lifestyle. In this study, it will analyze the design characteristics of the traditional and modern wooden house to solve these problems. The design characteristics will be contributed to the development of wooden architecture which is suitable for Korean architectural style and lifestyle The research consists of space analysis, plane analysis, structural system analysis, roof type analysis, and aesthetic analysis. From the analytical results the design characteristics of traditional Hanok and modern wood structure, we propose the modular elements and the inner and outer shapes of the Korean - style wooden house.

  • Hanok with a long tradition in our country, but a significant period of modernization in the process of being cut off did not have continuity. Many of Hanok aging, according to the rapid residential development and life-changing was the subject of a complaint. Conversely, the benefits of Hanok was given to the advantages that compare to a monotonous mass housing of apartments. Despite these changes and the potential of these social needs and demands Hanok quickly did not respond: First, for the life of contemporary and traditional Hanok with a form of gap is a matter of space and style. Economy and lifestyle $20,000 for the era of Hanok was to develop a model for spatial configurations. Second, Hanok in a low density, is evaluated to aging, because increasing the economic utilization of land and tailored to their needs as a Hanok housing requires the development of a model, but this did not present a layered model. The purpose of this study is a modern residential Hanok persistence of this set to have 1) the spatial characteristics of traditional and modern urban life Hanok living space that meets the requirements of the degree of each other, to find sustainable elements, and 2) these demands the modern residential area type, combined with a set of Hanok 3) Korea Hanok cultural characteristics which set is created to residential housing types is to develop a basic research.

  • This study compares the space depth and layout of a modern apartment floor plan (MAFP) and the standard floor plan of traditional Korean houses (STKHs), which has preserved the traditional beauty of Korea. Space Syntax was applied to compare the MAFP and STKH. The space within MAFP was more divided into many spaces than the STKH. In both types of floor plans, the living room space had the highest degree of integration and was used for central functions in the each floor plan. The STKH and the space in the MAFP have more segregated space than integrated space. In the STKH, the master bedroom and other rooms were found to be segregated space. However, the master bedroom of the MAFP was highly integrated space. The function of the thet maru has been greatly reduced in the STKH, and the numaru was classified as a highly segregated space. The evacuation space was the most segregated space in the MAFP. The STKH has been adapted and changed according to the trends of the times, and the MAFP reflects our traditional living habits.

  • Currently, technologies for industrialization and dissemination for Han-Ok are developed actively. Also BIM technologies are actively developed. However, it is difficult to find the research and study cases for construction method and process for Han-Ok. BIM is the technology for managing information with element as a unit for building design, construction and management, and it is closely related to Han-Ok using assembling method for building construction. We analyzed the basic construction processes for IK-Gong and MinDoRi house, typical types of Han-Ok. Also we developed the Work Breakdown Structure of construction process for Han-Ok and suggested the method for construction simulation using BIM. Simple BIM model of Han-Ok which is Ik-Gong type is used for case study. It was possible to link automatically between 3D elements objects and construction activities about 95% in the case study. More studies of construction method for various type of Han-Ok and rules for link between elements and construction activities are required for Industrialization and dissemination of Han-Ok.
