A Case Study of Intellectual Property Rights Using Animation Characters (애니메이션 캐릭터를 활용한 Intellectual Property 사례 연구)

  • Recently, with the development of convergent media, the digital animation industry has developed a variety of content centered on the role of Intellectal Property. The excellent IP role image has created huge economic benefits in business. This paper selects three representative Intellectual Property animation cases from Japan, the United States and China. Analyzed of the reuse of IP animation character images and combined with the era technology and the style of culture and art, the traditional cultural IP roles are reconstituted into modern character design two aspects. Through the research of this paper, can understand the expansion possibility of IP animation according to the use of character image. It is expected that when making digital animation, can recognize the importance of intellectual property and use it as a reference for role development.

  • What find the motive of new design from Korean traditional cultural inheritance and symbolize it visually is to create a new design of Korean style into the harmony of shape and aesthetics by harmonizing past design and modern one, to discover the value of the future, and to make a new traditional culture. This study is to find the motive of design from Korean traditional pattern and character of the twelve horary signs, to develop unique Korean style character by studying character to cause novel and refined sense and interest through the mix of traditional image and modern one, and to propose a plan to apply in various and practice the Korean style character to modern design. In addition, the purpose of this study is to discover the identity of Korean style from foreign culture by presenting identity and originality with our peculiar cultural elements as well as to develop the visual effect and character of traditional pattern, and to have national competitiveness with Korean style design from the world market of the future.

  • 테마파크는 현대 사회와 복잡함 속에서의 현실 탈피와 참여로써 자기 성취를 구현하는 현대적 개념의 종합위락시설로 모든 계층의 사람들이 즐길 수 있는 창조적 유희공원의 일반적 특징을 갖고 있다. 테마파크를 공간, 주제, 유형에 의해 분류해 볼 때 산업적 성공 가능성이 많은 것으로는 공간-실내, 주제-캐릭터, 유형-쇼핑으로 현재 일본의 산리오 퓨로랜드나 국내 일산의 헤이리 딸기파크가 그 사례이다. 본 연구에서는 실내캐릭터쇼핑파크의 사용자 분석을 통하여 온 오프라인 체험 컨텐츠의 가능성을 발견하고, 이를 VR 시뮬레이션 시나리오로 제안하였다. 방법으로는 헤이리 딸기파크에서 5 그룹, 9 개 구역을 필드리서치 하여 체험 시나리오 개발을 위한 의미 있는 단서를 발견하였으며, 이를 토대로 시나리오 기법을 활용하여 7 구역 14 개 시안을 도출하였다. 최종 구체적 사례로 포토포인트 시나리오를 설정하여 오프라인 연계 VR 시나리오를 이용한 구축 사례를 통해 제시하였다. 컨텐츠 개발의 제안을 중심으로 연구 범위를 디자인 사례의 제안으로 제한하였으며, 이는 향후 온 오프라인 연계 테마파크의 구체적 컨텐츠 개발의 활용을 목적으로 디자인되었고, 공간의 실제적 검증을 위한 Web-VR 시뮬레이션 기법의 검토에 도움을 줄 것으로 판단된다.

  • In modern days, the iconic symbolicity of animal characters functions as a sign by the social promise after being made with voluntary intentions. Representing a public organization or corporation, an animal character is put to active use as a symbol. Today illusionary animal characters serve as important icons, and product developers incessantly put out animal contents. This study set out to examine the applications of animal characters in modern times according to media development by integrating animal characters into animation, which was the beginning of animal characters, based on the theoretical background of "symbolicity" in the aesthetics history. It also analyzed the symbolicity of "Haechi," which is Seoul's animal character and one of the good examples of utilization of a promotional animal character by a corporation or public organization.

  • Design is a fatal factor to differentiate and survive one product from the other in fierce competition of the market, when other conditions such as price or quality makes no much difference. Among many marketing tools, package design is known as a direct communication that visualizes and forms the very initial brand image of a product. Package design is not only for packing, transporting, storing and loading but for engraving the brand image in a consumers' mind and lead them to purchasing. One of recent package design trands is various ways of using character, not just as a printed image on the surface but as a part of three dimensional structure of package. If it succeed, the package design could give out the secondary fun and impact to the consumers. The package design with an effective character is itself a great marketing tool and valuable design asset, which can bring a further profit to the company. Especially, character-package can be a powerful and effective marketing method for various local products, in needs of further publication and sales with limited cost. It should motivate the sales of the products by grabbing their attention and taken as a souvenir. This research takes a character package as a useful marketing method for a local brand in Jeonju, South Korea, and tries to design a three dimensional package using its own character. Through the process, the research aims to propose an important design strategy for repositioning or enhancing an existing brand.

  • 컴퓨터 게임은 이미 현대 문명에서 중요한 미디어산업으로 성장하였다. 그 중 신화를 다루는 무협 MMORPG는 전세계적으로 게임 산업에서 많은 비중을 차지하고 있다. 본 논문은 동양과 서양의 대표적인 MMORPG 속 캐릭터를 분석해 중국 무협 문화 요소의 응용에 대한 연구를 통해 게임 속 중국 무협 캐릭터 디자인의 장점과 국한성을 이해하고, 현재 중국 무협 MMORPG 시장의 밝은 전망을 토대로 MMOPRG 캐릭터 속 중국 무협 캐릭터 디자인의 특징을 도출해 내고자 한다. 이는 중국 MMORPG 시장이 세계속으로 파고들기 위한 중요한 기준점이 될것으로 사료된다.

  • The cultural production of meanings is becoming more and laden with the intricacies of signs and symbols in our times. The idea of 'character' is important as an intermediation for information and an essential characteristic of "the object" experienced through the sence of sight. Character is symbolicin its form but also in its iconic markings. Motion Picture Animation makes Character not just an expression of an image but visual communication that expands the action of meaning piled up, sign upon sign. The analysis of 'character' suggests that motion picture animated characters could play an important role as a cultural mode leading to new styles not merely as an aesthetic mechanism. The study there with analyzed animated character systematically to discem where the sign phenomena shows up in social conventions under the semiotic rigor of Peirce's concepts of icon, index, and symbol.

  • In order to satisfy customers' desire that is becoming more diverse, and to create the unique character of a product in the fast changing social structure and living environment, today's designers have to make efforts to provide new ideas continuously. In the twentieth century, the development of design in various aspects could be possible through an epoch-making progress of technology and industrialization, and thus the meaning and style of design has changed differently according to the current of the times. The retro design, which borrows the designs and styles which were popular in the past and recreates the design of modern meaning and concept, is widely applied now and in the spotlight as a latest design trend. This phenomenon of revival style appears as an image that makes us recollect the past in various fields while being recognized as an another value of new sense. Considered from the history of style changes for the past 100 years, the automobile design, the most representative in product design fields, has gradually changed in its types according to continuous historical, social, and cultural changes and technological progress, while a variety of designs have been continuously presented. The recent current of automobile styles, according to the rapid progress of advanced scientific technology, shows the fast and various changes and the retro style is becoming a new trend arousing people's interests and reintroducing the past designs. The revival trend in automobile designs is expected to stimulate human sensitivity and restore humanity on a different level before the trend, and also expected to be recreated as a new design trend in modern sense, connecting us with the past culture and expanding the realms of future designs.

  • First of all, What was the modeling technique used to model 3D-Game character? It's a technique developed along several years, by experience... here is the bases Low polygons characters I always work in low polygon for two reasons -You can easily modify a low-poly character, change shapes, make morph for facial expressions etc -You can easily animate a low-poly character When the modeling is finished, Second, In these days, Computer hardware technologies have been bring about that expansion of various 3D digital motion pictured information and development. 3D digital techniques can be used to be diversity in Animation, Virtual-Reality, Movie, Advertisement, Game and so on. Besides, as computing power has been better and higher, the development of 3D Animations and Character are required gradually. In order to satisfy the requirement, Research about how to make 3D Game modeling that represents Character's emotions, sensibilities, is beginning to set its appearance. 3D characters in 3D Games are the core for the communications of emotion and the informations through their facial expression and characteristic motions, Sounds to Users. All concerning about 3D motion and facial expression are getting higher with extension of frequency in use. Therefore, in this study we suggest the effective method of modeling for 3D character and which are based on 2D Graphics.

A Study on the Transition of the Grotesque Expression Method in Animation (애니메이션에 나타난 그로테스크 표현방법 추이 연구)

  • The esthetics of 'grotesque' and its entertaining values have many things in common with the characteristics and properties of animation as a medium of expression. The ways to express grotesque images in animation have expanded its realm of expression with the development of modern image digitalization technologies. The grotesque images that were expressed by the combination of photographs and animations and objet animations have been developing its disharmony in a more realistic manner with full 3D animation technology and realistic motions of virtual characters with motion capture. The subject matter also has become more diverse with the advance of modern scientific civilization. An example is the appearance of Cyborg(cybernetic+organism) characters and the grotesque images in the modern times mainly start to appear in animations dealing with the isolation of human beings among its characteristics. Also, the changes of the expression methods of grotesque images along with the development of visual technology development in the future will transform its methodological forms by changing its expression methods to VR forms and interactive visuals. Thus it is expected that the grotesque images and characteristics will change into a visual genre which emphasizes dehumanization.
