Suggestion of Load and Resistance Factored Design Value for PHC Bored Pile (PHC 매입말뚝의 하중저항 설계정수 제안)

  • The limit states design method is replacing the allowable stress design method worldwide, e.g. the design code of ISO and various construction codes of Korea are adopting the reliability based limit state method. This paper proposed LRFD design value which is one of limit states design method for the PHC bored pile used as building foundation. This paper analysed 81 load test results and the bearing design(Meyerhof method & SPT-CPT conversion method), and proposed LRFD value for each design reliability Index 2.33 and 3.0 for PHC bored pile. LRFD value of PHC bored pile represents 0.36~0.44 for Meyerhof method and 0.24~0.31 for SPT-CPT conversion method according to the deign reliability index.

  • The optimal mesh refinement has a meaning that error of the every element is within an allowable level and in uniformly distributed. The adaptive mesh generation may be required to achieve the optimal mesh generation. For the purpose of optimal mesh generation, an error estimation and an adaptive mesh refinement are required. Using the adaptive mesh generation the second finite element analysis is performed with the result of the first analysis. In the process the error estimation is required. In this study the adaptive mesh generation program for triangular element is developed, and for a posteriori error estimation the stress projection approach is considered. It has been found the multigrid technique, where the error estimation and the mesh generation are combined in multi-step of analysis, may be used efficiently in the finite element analysis.

Prediction of Fatigue Crack Initiation Direction around a Hole under Biaxial Loads Considering Phase Difference and Biaxiality (이축성과 위상차의 영향을 고려한 이축 하중하에서 구멍 주위에서의 피로 균열 발생 방향 예측)

  • To predict the direction of the fatigue crack initiated from a hole under various types of biaxial fatigue loads with different phase difference and biaxiality, fatigue parameters were investigated. Axial and torsional biaxial fatigue loads were selected with the respective combination of five different phase differences of 0, 45, 90, 145 and 180 degrees and five biaxialities of 0, $1/{\sqrt{3}}$, 1, ${\sqrt{3}}$, ${\infty}$. Directions of the fatigue crack initiation around the hole were found to approach to the circumferential direction of the specimen with increment of the phase difference for fatigue tests with phase differences less than $90^{\circ}$. Whereas directions for tests with phase differences greater than $90^{\circ}$ went away from the circumferential direction and those were symmetric to the directions for tests with phase difference less than $90^{\circ}$. With increase of biaxilities, the fatigue crack initiated more apart from the circumferential direction of the specimen. These crack initiation direction were predicted using maximum tangential stress range and maximum shear stress range obtained at far-field and around the hole. Comparing these two stress parameters, The crack initiation direction can be successfully explained by using the direction of the maximum tangential stress range obtained around the hole and at far-field.

  • Concrete placement work is executed using temporary structures such as formwork, support, etc. The temporary structures could collapse when they are not properly supported, and need to be monitored for structural safety. This paper introduces a USN (Ubiquitous Sensor Network)-based monitoring system that are being tested at the Pusan National University for increasing structural safety. The system takes advantage of ubiquitous technologies together with a variety of sensors, which allows for wireless transmission of construction monitoring data. The temporary structures are constantly monitored to find out whether the structures are being supported in a stable condition. A field test is being conducted to acquire data, and use them for evaluating the safety condition of the construction operation.

  • GA-based fuzzy optimum design algorithm incorporated with the refined plastic hinge analysis method is presented in this study. In the refined plastic hinge analysis method, geometric nonlinearity is considered by using the stability functions of the beam-column members. Material nonlinearity is also considered by using the gradual stiffness degradation model, which considers the effects of residual stresses, moment redistribution through the occurence of plastic hinges, and the geometric imperfections of the members. In the genetic algorithm, the tournament selection method and the total weight of the steel frames. The requirements of load-carrying capacity, serviceability, ductility, and constructabil ity are used as the constraint conditions. In fuzzy optimization, for crisp objective function and fuzzy constraint s, the tolerance that is accepted is 5% of the constraints. Furthermore, a level-cut method is presented from 0 to 1 at a 0 .2 interval, with the use of the nonmembership function, to solve fuzzy-optimization problems. The values of conventional GA optimization and fuzzy GA optimization are compared in several examples of steel structures.

Probabilistic Risk Assessment of a Steel Composite Hybrid Cable-Stayed Bridge Based on the Optimal Reliabilities (최적신뢰성에 의한 강합성 복합사장교의 확률적 위험도평가)

  • Probabilistic risk assessment was conducted on a hybrid cable-stayed bridge consisting of a steel-composite plate girder and a concrete girder with a long span, designed using the working stress design and strength design methods. The component reliabilities of the bridge's cables, pylons, girders, and steel-concrete conjunction were evaluated using the AFOSM(Advanced First Order Second Moment) algorithm and the simulation technique at the critical sections, based on the maximum axial force, shear, and positive and negative moments of the selected sections. For the analysis of system reliability, the hybrid cable-stayed bridge consisting of cables, pylons, and plate girders was modeled into combined failure modes, and for system reliability, the probabilities of failure and reliability index of the structural system were evaluated. Based on the results of this study, the critical failure modes of the hybrid cable-stayed bridge based on the bridge's structural characteristics are suggested, and the efficiency of the partial ETA technique for use in the risk assessment method was confirmed.

Proposal of Return Period and Basic Wind Speed Map to Estimate Wind Loads for Strength Design in Korea (강도설계용 풍하중 평가를 위한 재현기간과 기본풍속지도의 제안)

  • Strength design wind loads for the wind resistance design of structures shall be evaluated by the product of wind loads calculated based on the basic wind speed with 100 years return period and the wind load factor 1.3 specified in the provisions of load combinations in Korean Building Code (KBC) 2016. It may be sure that the wind load factor 1.3 in KBC(2016) had not been determined by probabilistic method or empirical method using meteorological wind speed data in Korea. In this paper, wind load factors were evaluated by probabilistic method and empirical method. The annual maximum 10 minutes mean wind speed data at 69 meteorological stations during past 40 years from 1973 to 2012 were selected for this evaluation. From the comparison of the results of those two method, it can be found that the mean values of wind load factors calculated both probability based method and empirical based method were similar at all meteorological stations. When target level of reliability index is set up 2.5, the mean value of wind load factors for all regions should be presented about 1.35. When target level of reliability index is set up 3.0, wind load factor should be presented about 1.46. By using the relationship between importance factor(conversion factor for return period) and wind load factor, the return periods for strength design were estimated and expected wind speeds of all regions accounting for strength design were proposed. It can be found that return period to estimate wind loads for strength design should be 500 years and 800 years in according to target level of reliability index 2.5 and 3.0, respectively. The 500 years basic wind speed map for strength design was suggested and it can be used with a wind load factor 1.0.

Investigation on Water Leakage-Induced Tunnel Structure and Ground Responses Using Coupled Hydro-Mechanical Analysis (수리역학 연계해석을 이용한 누수로 인한 터널 구조물 및 지반 거동의 분석)

  • Water leakage in tunnels is a defect that can affect tunnel stability and the ground movement by changing the stress and pore water pressure of the surrounding ground. Long-term or large-scale water leaks may lead to damage of tunnel structure and the surrounding environment, such as tunnel lining instability and ground surface settlement. The present study numerically investigated the effects of water leakage on the structural stability of a tunnel and the ground behavior. The tunnel was assumed to be under undrained conditions for preventing the inflow of the surrounding water and leaks occurred in the concrete lining after completion of the tunnel construction. A coupled hydro-mechanical analysis using a TOUGH-FLAC simulator developed in Python was conducted for assessing the leakage induced-behavior of the tunnel structure and ground under different conditions of the amount and location of water leak. Additionally, the effect of hydro-mechanical coupling terms on the results of coupled response was investigated and discussed.

Behavior of Reinforced Earth Retaining Wall for Permitting Reinforcement to Subside with Monitoring (현장계측을 통한 보강재 침하형 보강토 옹벽의 거동특성)

  • The conventional reinforced earth retaining wall has the connector system to fix the reinforcement and block. However, this system defect may cause the crack of block and the rupture of reinforcement due to the stress concentration near the face of reinforced earth retaining wall. Hence, the new connector system which was able to allow the settlement of reinforcement was developed in this study and a test was carried out in the study area which is divided into the conventional reinforced earth retaining wall and reinforced Earth Retaining Wall driving the settlement. As the results of field monitoring in situ, the ratio of tensile force calculated at maximum value on contiguous portion of front block showed that the settlement type decreased the stress concentration near the face of front block greater than the conventional type.
