  • In this study, factors influencing the parking policy compliance (i.e. levying a garage option on car buyers) were identified, and then, were applied to the theory of planned behavior. To find out the influence of factors and their path, the study built a parking policy compliance model using structural equation modeling. The independent variables such as attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control had positive effects on the parameter describing the efforts to secure his garage, but the parameter impact on the dependent variable was not significant. In the end, the independent variables affected the dependent variable was not significant. The perceived behavioral control utilizing regulations had positive effects on the parking policy compliance behavior, but past behavior such as street parking and prowling to find a free parking space had a negative effect on parking policy compliance behavior.

  • Despite the importance of prenatal nutrition, many studies find inadequate calcium intake among pregnant women. The purpose of this study was to investigate the value of the Theory of Planned Behavior in explaining the intentions and the actual consumption of milk among pregnant women participating in or eligible for WIC. A cross-sectional survey was conducted to collect information regarding attitudes, subjective norms, perceived control, milk allocation within the family, intentions and consumption of milk. The survey questionnaire was developed using open-ended questions and interviews with 112 pregnant women. One-hundred-eighty women recruited from prenatal clinics completed the survey questionnaire. Multiple regression was used separately to investigate the association of factors to intentions and to the consu-mption of milk, as proposed in the theory. Milk allocation within the family was used as an exploratory variable to explain milk consumption. Study findings revealed that all three factors, attitudes, subjective norms and perceived control contributed to the model in explaining intentions (explained variance : 36.2%), with perceived control being most important. For milk consumption, intentions and perceived control were related significantly to actual consumption, while milk allocation within the family was not (explained variance : 44.6%). These findings suggest that perceived control is important in understanding both intentions and milk consumption, providing empirical evidence for the Theory of Planned Behavior. With respect to the role of perceived control, more strong evidence was provided in explaining intentions. Findings suggest that educational interventions to increase milk consumption among pregnant women should incorporate strategies to enhance the perception of control, and to strengthen positive attitudes and to elicit social support from significant other. • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of individual psychology, family environment and social environment factors on adolescents' behavior problems. The subject of this study were 500 middle school students who reside in Incheon, Geonggi-Do and 483 self reported questionnaires were used for final analysis. The findings of this study suggested that there was no significant difference between male and female adolescents in externalizing behavior problems. However, it was found that female adolescents experienced more internalizing behavior problems than male adolescents. Secondly, low levels of self-control and more contact with delinquents. were associated with more externalizing behavior problems for male and female adolescents. Self-esteem, self-control, marital conflict and contact with delinquents were related to more internalizing behavior problems for male adolescents. In addition, self-esteem, parenting behavior and contact with delinquents affected female's internalizing behavior problems.

  • The aim of this study was to examine growth trajectories of delinquent behaviors during adolescence. In addition, the effects of protective and risk factors that might account for individual difference in the level of delinquent behaviors and in the rate of change were examined. Four waves of data in the Korea Youth Panel Survey(KYPS) were used to analyze the linear growth modeling. The sample consisted of 3346 adolescents who were assessed at 4 measurement waves with approximately 1-year intervals. The results showed significant individual differences in both final level of delinquent behaviors and in the rate of change across 3 measurement occasions. Adolescent gender, family's socioeconomic background predicted the final level and the rate of change of delinquent behaviors. The protective effects of positive parenting and self-control were significantly associated with problem behaviors and the risk effects of the association with deviant peers and negative stigma were significant on the final level of delinquency. Self-control and deviant peer affiliation had differential influences over time significantly. Practice and policy implications as well as further research topic were discussed in the light of searching for important factors in preventing adolescent problem behaviors.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine comics library user's behavioral intention using the extended theory of planned behavior. In order to verify the effects of variables, such extended variables as comics likeability and service factor were added to such basic variables of the theory of planned behavior as subjective norm, attitude and behavioral control. Study findings are as follows: user's attitude had the biggest effects on their behavioral intention of reuse of Comics Library, and it was followed by subjective norm, service quality and perceived behavioral control, in order. Comics likeability exceptionally had no direct effects on behavioral intention, but it had indirect effects via the mediation of attitude, subjective norm and perceived behavioral control. And second, comics likeability and service quality had power of explanation for such basic variables as attitude, subjective norm and perceived behavioral control, respectively, thus verifying their effects on behavioral intention as extended variables.

  • Nowadays, aggressive driving is a common driving behavior and it is raised as a dangerous factor for both drivers and passengers. However, it is hard to find studies on aggressive driving in Korea, and even the definition of aggressive behavior is not clearly explained. In this study, the term "aggressive behavior" is defined based on previous studies, and the significance of several psycho-social factors which affect aggressive driving were verified with the 'habit' factor from the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). In the pilot study, domestic drivers reported that aggressive behaviors included speeding, traffic light signal violation, and improper passing (cutting drivers off when passing). In this study, controlling the demographic characteristics of these three aggressive behaviors, the authors explored the relationship of the behaviors with TPB factors such as the habit factor. Consequently, in the case of drivers' intentions for speeding and traffic light signal violations, subjective norm, perceived behavioral controllability, and habit were significant factors. In the case of intentions for improper passing, only perceived behavioral controllability and habit were significant. In speeding behavior and traffic light signal violations, only habit was significant besides intention; however, in improper passing, both perceived behavioral controllability and habit were significant besides intention. The authors also tested an alternative model including TPB and habit factors for three types of aggressive driving. Finally, there are several implications for a possible intervention program for aggressive driving, though there are some limitations of the study.
