Bioecological Characteristics of Coral Habitats around Munseom, Cheju Island, Korea - III. Seasonal and Diel Fluctuations of Gelatinous Zooplankton Biomass (제주도 문섬 산호서식지 주변의 생물생태학적 특성 - III. 젤라틴성 동물플랑크톤 생물량의 계절 및 일 변동)

  • The daily fluctuations of occurrence rate and standing stock of zooplankton, the relationship between dry and wet weights of gelatinous zooplankton, and the size distributions of body length and body weight of zooplankton were investigated in the sea around Cheju Island from September 1996 to August 1997. Mean ratios of wet to dry weights were 66.46 (raging from 47.05 to 84.64) in the gelatinous zooplankton and 10.89 (raging 9.21 to 14.85) in the non-gelatinous zooplankton which consisted of crustaceans such as copepods, decapods, mysids, and ostracods etc. Rarios of gelatinous zooplankton to non-gelatinous zooplankton (G/NG) in wet weight was 0.99 (0.28-2.30), indicating high occurrence rate of gelatinous in the study area. The seasonal and diel fluctuations of the gelatinous zooplankton were very large, and G/NG ratios greatly varied with seasons and dat/night cycles. The size distributions of body length of zooplankton (250-500 urn: 35.5% in maximum), and wet (0.1-0.2 mg: 34.4%) and dry weights (0.025-0.05 mg: 44.8%) showed much difference depending composition of the zooplankton groups. These results show that quantitative estimations of zooplankton produc- tivity only based on wet weight should be corrected to better understand and evaluate marine resources in Korean waters.

  • 전자빔을 이용하던 CRT(Cathode Ray Tube) 모니터에서 픽셀단위의 LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) 디스플레이 사용으로 휴대용 정보처리 장치들은 급속한 발전을 이루게 되었다. 기존의 CRT 모니터에서 전자빔을 사용하던 방식에서 픽셀(Pixel) 단위의 후면발광 디스플레이를 만들면서 CRT 모니터보다 빠른 응답특성을 나타내며 저 전력일 뿐만 아니라 디스플레이의 두께도 줄일 수 있게 되었다. 휴대가 가능한 디스플레이의 발전으로 노트북이나 PDA와 같은 실시간 정보를 활용 및 처리 할 수 있는 방법들을 제시할 수 있었지만 원활한 활용을 위해 더 적은 전력을 사용하는 방법들이 제시되어야 했다. 이에 따라 저 전력 소모, 빠른 응답특성, 넓은 시야각 그리고 경량화가 가능한 디스플레이가 되기 위한 새로운 디스플레이가 선을 보이게 되었다. 현재 차세대 디스플레이로 각광을 받고 있는 디스플레이 소자로는 OLED(Organic Light Emitting Diode)가 있다 이는 LCD 디스플레이가 가지고 있는 단점을 보완하여 우선적으로 높은 색도가 가능하며 후면발광을 사용하지 않고 자체 발광을 하기 때문에 저 전력 소모가 현실화되었다. 또한 디스플레이의 유동성이 가능하여 휘어질 수 있는 특성을 가지고 있다. 그러나 이러한 유기발광 소자의 경우 높은 발광 효율을 위한 구조적 개선이 필요하며 소자의 수명도 개선해야 한다. 이에 따라 유기발광 소자의 메카니즘에 대한 파악이 필요하게 되며 물리적 구조에 대한 이해가 필요하다. 이를 위해 물리적, 수치적 해석으로 소자의 특성을 파악해 줌으로써 개선된 유기발광 소자 제작이 가능 할 것이다.기에 대한 영향정도를 측정하여 정량적으로 도출하였다. 이를 각 구간에 대해 상호 비교 분석함으로써 대형국책사업에서의 공기지연인자에 대한 분석 방법론을 정립하였고 공기지연 분석 방법론의 현실적 적용을 위한 제언과 그에 따른 개선사항에 대해 도출하였다.있는 발판을 마련하게 된다고 추정하였다. 0.5%가 control사이에서 0.95로 가장 색차가 크게 나타났으며, 그 다음이 냉동분쇄 0.5% 0.83으로 나타나 송이의 첨가율이 높을수록 색차가 크게 나타나는 것을 알 수 있다. 색차가 가장 낮은 제품은 법동분쇄 0.3%, 동결건조 0.3%로 나타났다. 송이양갱의 색(color), 냄새(flavor), 맛(taste), 외관(appearances), 질감(viscosity), 종합적 평가(overall acceptability) 등의 관능평가를 실시한 결과 중 색에 대한 기호도는 냉동분쇄 0.1% 송이양갱이 가장 높은 것으로 나타났으나, 집단간 유의한 차이는 나타나지 않았고, 냄새는 동결건조 0.1%의 송이양갱이 3.38로 가장 점수가 높았으며, 냉동분쇄 0.3%의 송이양갱이 2.81로 가장 낮은 기호도를 나타내었다. 맛에서는 p<0.01수준에서 집단간 유의한 차이를 나타내었는데, 동결건조 0.1%가 그 중 가장 높은 기호도를 나타내었으며, 그 다음이 동결건조 0.5%였다. 가장 낮은 선호도를 나타낸 것은 열풍건조 0.5%였다. 질감은 P<.05 수준에서 집단간 유의미한 차이를 나타내었으며 동결건조 0.1%가 가장 높은 기호도를 나타내었으며, 동결건조 0.5%함유 송이양갱이 1.21로서, 현저히 낮은 기호도를 나타내었다. 종합적인 평가에서는 동결건조 0.1%함유

Performance of Oscillating Water Column type Wave Energy Converter in Oblique Waves (사파중 진동수주형 파력발전장치의 성능평가)

  • In an oscillating water column (OWC)-type wave energy conversion system, the performance of the OWC chamber depends on the chamber shape, as well as the incident wave direction and pressure drop produced by the turbine. Although the previous studies on OWC chambers have focused on wave absorbing performance in ideal operating conditions, incident waves do not always arrive normally to the OWC chamber in real sea conditions, especially in fixed devices. The present study deals with experiments and numerical calculations to investigate the effects of wave direction on the performance of the OWC chamber. The experiments were carried out in a three-dimensional wave basin for five different wave directions, including the effect of turbine using the corresponding orifice. The wave elevation inside the chamber was measured at the center point under various incident wave conditions. The numerical study was conducted by using a numerical wave tank-based volume-of-fluid model to compare the results with experimental data and to reveal the detailed flows around the chamber.

The Relationship between Inventories and Fixed Investment (재고스톡과 고정투자 간의 관계 분석: 상장 제조기업 분석을 통한 외환위기 전·후 비교)

  • This study is to analyze the existence of the real buffer effect that reflects the effect of beginning-of-period inventory stocks effect on the demand for fixed investment, and the financial buffer effect indicates the substitution effect between end-of-period inventory stock and the source of financing for fixed investment. I use panel data of 361 Korean listed non-financial firms during 1990-2003. After the crisis, it also observed whether the relationship between inventory stocks and fixed investment has altered or not. I review the theoretical connection between inventory stock and fixed investment through the paper by Bo(2004) and estimate the investment model by the method of GMM-SYS. The results show negative relation between end-of-period inventory stock and fixed investment in the whole period and each period classified, also it confirms that the relation between fixed investment and end-of-period investment is significantly negative. It can be interpreted through two aspects that firms not only use inventory stock as a buffer in response to unexpectedly high demand, but also utilize inventory stock as a source of financing for fixed investment. The results imply that firm's decision-making is much correlated with production-and-inventory stock adjustment, decision-making about fixed investment, and decision-making about financial affairs.

A Compact Two-Wire Helical Antenna with an Open Stub for a T-DMB Antenna of Mobile Devices (단말기 T-DMB용 안테나로 사용될 수 있는 Open Stub를 가지는 소형 Two-Wire Helical 안테나)

  • We have presented a compact two-wire helical antenna adopted an open stub in opposite to a feeding point, which is for a T-DMB antenna of mobile devices. By adjusting the length of the open stub or pasting a dielectric material on the open stub, the input impedance around 200 MHz, bands of the T-DMB, can be easily control, even though the total height of the antenna is less than 8 cm(0.053 $\lambda$ at 200 MHz). The operating mechanism of the antenna is explained by using equivalent circuits of two modes, an unbalanced mode and a balanced mode. Based on the analysis of the equivalent circuits, the effects of using the open stub are validated. Several proposed antennas have been fabricated and measured. One of the fabricated antennas has -10 dB impedance bandwidth of $196{\sim}204$ MHz(8 MHz) whose value covers one channel of the T-DMB(6 MHz). The measured $S_{21}$ of the antenna is -38.6 dB which is about 17 dB higher than that of a monopole antenna whose height is same with the proposed antenna.

Performance Test of Wall to Wall Modular Structure Joint for Near-surface Transit (저심도 모듈식 구조체의 벽체간 연결 조인트 성능검증 실험)

  • To overcome the weaknesses of viaduct bridges and the non-economic efficiency of underground LRT, the study of near-surface railway systems is in progress. To apply a box structure to the low depth transit, a connection joint to precast modules are very important when applying precast modular structures to replace temporary structures. In this study, wall to wall connections were applied in diverse cases such as rebar connections, guiding structures that were used to fit the verticality of precast walls during construction, and non-reinforcement structures used only for waterstop. Experimental performance verification was carried out for the bending, shear and splitting of the wall to wall connection. Precision of construction joints between wall to wall was identified as a factor that influenced the structural performance of the precast wall. A structure that can serve as a guide during the vertical insertion of a wall is confirmed for the most suitable case, but it will be necessary to modify this structure for detailed cases.

  • Recently, the traditional paradigm in railroad technology is changing as more efficient and cost-effective electric vehicle (EV) technologies have emerged. The original concept of PRT (Personal Rapid Transit) proposed in the past has come to be regarded as unrealistic, but its feasibility is improving through the utilization of an EV platform. In particular, battery-powered vehicles pose difficult technical challenges in attempts to achieve reliable and efficient operation. However, based on the inductive power transfer (IPT) technology, the fast charging of supercapacitors with high energy density can contribute to overcoming this technical challenge and promote the transition to electric-powered ground transportation by improving the appearance of cities. This study discusses the development process of a power supply system for PRT, including concept design, numerical analysis, and device manufacturing, along with performance predictions and evaluations. In terms of results, the system was found to meet the performance requirements for power supply modules on a test-bed.

Comparison of Flow Characteristics for the Development of a C-Type Strainer with Its Inlet and Outlet on a Straight Line (유입·유출구가 일직선상인 C형 스트레이너 개발을 위한 유동특성 비교)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a strainer that could protect a flow system by blocking the introduction of foreign substances into the pipe of industrial or architectural facilities. Strainers are installed at the front tip of valves, machines, or pumps in the piping line of clean water, oil, or gas. There are Y-type, U-type, and T-type strainers. The study identified problems with the Y-type strainers, develop a "C-type strainer with its inlet and outlet on a straight line" as a more improved new model, and compared them in functions in a full-scale strainer test. The study conducted a full-scale strainer test according to four situations at the flow laboratory of Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science by using the old Y-type strainer and C-type strainer 50A. The test results show that the C-type strainer had a higher capacity coefficient(Kv) than the Y-type one, recording 74.9% when there was no screen, 54.5% when there were no foreign substances in the screen, 54.2% when there was a 15% accumulation of foreign substances, and 52.4% when there was a 30% accumulation of foreign substances. The investigator conducted a test only with the 50A type due to the limitations of life-size strainers, but the results demonstrate that the C-type strainer had better flow characteristics than the Y-type one.

Analysis of Measured Acceleration Data to Obtain Dynamic Characteristics of Bridges (교량의 동적 특성 분석을 위한 가속도 데이터의 해석)

  • In Extracting the dynamic parameters for estimating the load carrying capacity and integrity of bridges, both the instrumentation and the processing the data plays important role . When the fixed point can not be secured, it is difficult and expensive to measure dynamic displacements. Even if the displacement is obtained through the integration of the acceleration data, the results can be quite different from the real behavior, because the main frequency contents can be leaked during discretized data processing. The instrumentation is used for measurements, and every measurement involves error and uncertainty, such as systematic, conformance, environmental, observational, sampling, and ranmom error. Systematic and conformance error can be remedied through the proper sellection and installation of the instruments, but sampling and random errors could not have been corrected properly and it becomes the limitation for using acceleration data. In this paper, the errors which can be occurred in numerical processing of dynamic data are referred, and the method to sellect proper sampling rate for the structural frequency range are proposed. Using the proposed method, the displacement response of the structures can be economically obtained from the measured acceleration record, and this procedure can be used properly to estimate the integrity of the bridges and infrastructures subjected to dynamic loads.

  • Railway signaling system in a rapid transit using the ATC system the approved a speed limit to a train and a part of signaling system in a metro approved a distance which is possible to move. Referring to the way of transmitting train control information, there are the one transmitting it to the on-board system of a train using the direct track, the another transmitting it establishing an instrument, and the other transmitting an instrument by a railway track. The one is the method using the direct track as a conductor for composing the part of the track and attaining the information controlling a train by transmitting a signal to the track. It is used for the high-speed railway and the subway. The method using the track attains information by transmitting it to returned information, and the on-board system of a train attains it by magnetic coupling. Because many reinforcing bars on the concrete slab track are used, interaction between a rail and a reinforcing bar that is not produced on ballast track is made. Due to the interaction, the electric characteristic of rail is changed. In the current paper, we numerically computed the coupling coefficient between the rail and the reinforcing bar based on the concrete slab track throughout the model related to the rail and the reinforcing bar using the concrete slab track that is used in the second interval of the Gyeongbu high-speed railway, and we defined the coupling coefficient not changed in the electric characteristic of rail in the condition that there is no interaction between the rail and the reinforcing bar.
