The southern coastal area of Korean peninsula maintains unique natural views, social environment and tourism infrastructure. Even though the coastal area has world-class tourism resources and a great potential for development, it was an outsider from the tourism development in Korea. The coast development has recently reemerged because of increased tourism demand in the Northeast Asia, however, increased interest for the outstanding marine tourism resources and the marine culture, improvement of accessibility to the coast Considering these characteristics, the southern coastal area will be grown to a marine resort-belt, which will serve as a marine tourism hub in the Northeast. In the long run, it can be developed for leisure residential space with environment-friendly well-being fashion, new growing area that continuously drives the local development and area for a mutual development between Yeongnam and Honam Region. To accomplish this vision, several strategic matters should be resolved. Mall strategic issues are as follows: the loosening related rules and regulations that limit the development, legislation of a special law for tourism promotion, supporting for investment in public service and strategic investment, establishment of a marine tourism route connecting China-Korea-Japan, formulating new planning for Hallyo-Haesang Marine Park, designation of special marine tourism development zone, and invitation of the World Expo 2012.
To elucidate ecophysiological factors affecting nutural distribution of evergreen broad-leabed trees in Danohad National Marine Park, water potential, relative water content and photosynthetic activities of 4 species, Cammellia japonica, Machilus thunbergii, Castanopsis cuspidata var.sieboldii and Quercus acuta, were potential began to decrease from 07:00h to its minimum value at 13:00h for C. cuspidata var. sieboldii (-14.3bar) and Q. acuta (-19.4bar) at 16:00 h for M. thunbergii(-17.0bar) and at 19:00 h for C. japonica (-14.5bar), and these showed similar trends to relative water content. Photosynthetic activities of 4 species began to increase from 7:00 h and reached maximum values before their minimum values of water potential occureed. Optimum temperature renges of photosynthetic activities was $18~20^{\circ}C$ for C. japonica - M. thunbergii and $14~16^{\circ}C$ for C. cuspidata var. sieboldii Quercus acuta.Q.acuta had the highest light saturation point of $0.4mM/m^2/s$ and C. japonica the lowest of $0.15mM/m^2/s$. Water potential of 4 species subjected to water stress, began to decrease after 1st day of drought and after 21th day of drought, those of C. japonica, M. thunbergii, C. cuspidata var. sieboldii and Q. acuta decreased to species began to decrease after 7th day of drought and after 21th day, those of M. thunbergii, C. cuspidata var. sieboldii and Q. acuta were dropped to about 50% and C. japonica 83.5%. Photosynthetic activity of 4 specie began to decline in the order of C. cuspidata var. sieboldii, Q.acuta, C. japonica and M. thunbergii after 10th day of drought. These results suggest that the segregated disributions of C. japonica - M. thunbergii on vally positions and C. cuspidata var. sieboldii - Q. acuta on slopes were associated with different responses of water status and photosyntheties to their environment.

The Wando Jeongdo-ri Windbreak Forest is located in region of Wando, where located between sea and land facing with the southward. Due to the strong winds from the southeast in the summer season, it is very important sites as an ecological succession areas that protect cultivated land and the fishing village. Flora of Wando Jeongdo-ri Windbreak Forest is recorded as 384 taxa with 93 families 250 genera 355 species 42 varieties and 7 forms. The Jeongdo-ri Windbreak Forest belongs to South coast province, and appeared Cymbidium nipponicum as Endangered Plant Species II. Rare Plants are recorded as 6 taxa; C. nipponicum, Arisaema heterophyllum, Lilium distichum, Koelreuteria paniculata, Monotropa uniflora and Ardisia macrocarpa. The Protection species which is designated by the CITES are 2 taxa; Cymbidium goeringii and C. nipponicum. Protection species of IUCN is 1 taxa; Cinnamomum japonicum. Endemic plant are 7 taxa; Poa annua, Polygonum lasianthum var. coreanum, Chloranthus fortunei, Carpinus coreana and Lonicera subhispida. The naturalized plant is recorded as 32 taxa with 11 families 23 genera 27 species 5 varieties. The Naturalization Index was 8.33%, and the Urbanization Index was 11.81%.
Fish fauna and community structures in freshwater were analyzed in the streams (12 stations) of the Bogil Island from May to September 2015. Total numbers of the sampled species and genus (9 families) were 21 and 17, respectively. Gobiidae was the most dominant taxa, which accounted for 47.6% (10 species) of the total species, and the relative abundance, based on the number of individuals, was 60.4% (1,157 individuals). Subdominant families were three taxa of Cyprinidae (3 species; 500 ind.), Mugilidae (2 species; 168 ind.) and Mugilidae (2 species; 128 ind.). The dominant species, based on the relative abundance, was Rhynchocypris oxycephalus (20.7%) and the subdominant species were Gymnogobius urotaenia (19.5%), Leucopsarion petersii (17.2%) and Chelon haematocheilus (8.5%). These species were composed of upstream-resident fish as well as migratory fishes, so the streams of the Bogil Island had unique characteristics in the fish compositions. Based on all the species sampled, 9 species (42.9%) were primary freshwater fishes, 11 species (52.4%) were peripheral fishes and 1 species (4.8%) was amphidromous fish. Korean endemic species and exotic species were not found in the streams of Bogil Island. According to the analysis of fish community structure, species richness index and species diversity index were highest (1.831, 1.957) in the Site 8 and lowest in the Site 4. In the meantime, the dominance index was highestin the Site 4 (1.00) and lowest in theSite 8 (0.17).

Despite the fact that the importance of islands and oceans is increasingly being emphasized as they are recognized as alternative spaces for the future, some islands that have not been designated as cultural assets have lost their natural and cultural landscapes to development projects and other plans for turning islands into tourist resources, and are still in the process of being destroyed. Unlike old perceptions of islands, islands, in the minds of people living in the modern age, have become places for taking a quiet rest or enjoying and appreciating the undamaged beauty of nature itself. Keeping up with the trend of people increasingly visiting the islands these days, it is high time to prepare plans for the promotion, preservation management, and usages of islands based on researches of islands with excellent natural landscapes and through the designation of these islands as cultural properties. As the first step of studying island landscape resources as resources of cultural assets, the current study includes literature reviews and field investigations of Gwanmaedo and Yeongsando, two islands that have been selected as prestigious villages and are part of the Dadohaehaesang National Park. Based on these preliminary investigations, landscape resources showing distinctive natural landscapes and cultural sceneries were selected and analyzed in detail, thus presented for their value as resources of Scenic site and future research.

The Benangkimi wetland, which serves as a stopover place for migratory birds in the Dadohae Marine National Park in Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do, is a place where various species and a large number of migratory birds are observed. In order to provide an effective and scientific management plan for the habitat environment of migratory birds, we carried out field survey of Benangkimi wetland. The field survey and survey on habitat use of migratory birds were conducted in parallel to obtain the basic data of hydraulics and hydrology. The hydraulic and hydrological survey of Benangkimi wetland was conducted 1-2 times a year during the period of 2015-2016 (two years). It was classified into 4 sectors according to the topography and geology, rainfall, hydraulic characteristics, and wetland conditions. The 3 sectors same as the migratory birds survey sector and the 1 sector as the inflow of the wetland were analyzed. The survey also focused on small migratory birds arriving at Benangkimi wetland during the spring and autumn season. As a result of investigating the population and species in each section, the habitat environment was different according to the water depth, sediment thickness and salinity. Migratory birds prefer hydraulic and hydrological characteristics. This study will be used for the scientific management of Benangkimi wetland, which serves as a stopping point for migratory birds, and it will contribute to basic data of ecology - hydraulics by examining the relationship between habitat environment and hydrological data.

This study was performed to investigate the community structure of the macrobenthic invertebrates around Ui Island, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do, Korea. Benthic invertebrates were collected during May and September 2008 at seven stations. A total of 63 macrobenthic species was collected. The overall average macrobenthos density and biomass were 268 inds. $m^{-2}$ and 11.54 gWWt $m^{-2}$, respectively. Based on abundance data, there were 5 dominant species accounting for approximately 72.00% of total individuals. The polychaetes Notomastus latericeus, Scolelepis sagittaria, Amaeana occidentalis, Glycera chirori and the amphipoda Mandibulophoxus mai were found in high densities. The conventional multi-variate statistics (cluster analysis and non-metric multidimensional scaling) applied to assess spatial variation in macrobenthic assemblages. As a result, three communities could be distinguished: a sand dominated, a mixed sediment and a third community in the mud dominated station. The community in the sand dominated station was characterized by high abundance of the polychaetes S. sagittaria and the amphipods M. mai, Monoculodes sp. and Grandifoxus malipoensis. However, the most common species within the mixed sediment station were the polychaetes N. latericeus, A. occidentalis and amphipoda Urothoe sp.. Finally the mud dominated station was numerically dominated by the polychaetes Scolelepis sp., Heteromastus filiformis and Sigambra tentaculata. In conclusion, the sediment composition may be important factors controlling of the macrobenthic community structure in the study area.
Jangdo Island (area $1.54km^2$) located in the western end of Dadohae Haesang National Park has been recognized as an prominent ecoregion possessing high moor and national biodiversity hotspot. In terms of the Z$\ddot{u}$rich-Montpellier School's phytosociology, we investigate the diversity of plant communities on the island and reevaluate the Jangdo wetland designated as Ramsar site. Ten physiognomic types of the Jangdo's vegetation were classified into 22 syntaxa (3 associations, 15 communities and 4 subcommunities). Jangdo wetland was actually denominated as 'eutrophic wetland' by Pharagmitetea and Orizetea rather than 'high moor'. Nevertheless, existence value of the Jangdo wetland is evaluated very high as a stepping stone for migratory birds and even plant dispersions. A new site of the northernmost distribution of Arachniodo-Castanopsietum sieboldii, which is a kind of cold-resistant phytocoenosis among the Camellietea japonicae of the warm-temperate broad-leaved forests, was described. Hosta yingeri-Carpinus turczaninovii var. coreana community and Carex wahuensis var. robusta-Juniperus chinensis var. procumbens community were described specifically as an endemic and an edaphic vegetation type, respectively. The unique Jangdo's vegetation reflects regional environmental conditions such as much higher frequency of frost-free days and the highest number of annual average foggy days in Korea and a well-developed aquifer in the depressed basin formed by differential erosion. We identified that human interventions (pasture, logging, forest fire, cultivation, etc.) has been involved intensively on every vegetation types, even though a rugged and inaccessible topography of the island. Particularly the Jangdo wetland has been recently threatened by fundamental distortion on hydrological system. We request an immediate establishment of the conservation prescription manual.
