Simulation Methodology for Automation of Port Systems : Example of Container Terminal (항만 시스템의 자동화를 위한 시뮬레이션 방법론 : 컨테이너 터미널의 예)

  • A simulation technique is very useful method to analyze the performance on various engineering area. To automate port systems, we have need of simulation to analyze an effect of assigning and operating devices. Thus we propose simulation methodology to be applied to an analysis, evaluation, planning for port automation. To do this, we have adopted the discrete event system specification based system entity structure / model base framework for modeling and simulation environment. We have performed modeling and simulation on entities of port systems such as container crane, yard tractor, transfer crane, etc. The proposed methodology has an advantage being able to effectively simulate on alternatives of composition and operation strategy for port systems. Some case studies will show the validity of proposed simulation methodology.

  • In this study, we introduce a 3-dimensional simulation to support the Design on ACT(Automated Container Terminal). This simulation system developed to simulate virtual operations of ACT using 3-dimensional simulation and animate the simulated results with real time. And the developed system applied an object-oriented design and C++ programming to increase the reusability and extensibility. We select several items of performance evaluation for objects used in ACT in terms of problem detection, problem forecast, and logic feasibility, and provide evaluation points for the design of ACT.

  • In the current container port, the containers standardized by the automated operating system using the latest information and communication technology are systematically made according to the optimal stowage planning. However, loading of steel coils with a unit weight of several tens of tons is still performed manually, which is very inefficient. As a result, work is delayed and safety accidents occur frequently. In this study, an automated simulation system for loading steel coils was designed to prevent misjudgment, congestion, and safety accidents that occur during the manual loading process of steel coils.

  • 오늘날 자동화 컨테이너 터미널은 대부분 AGV(Automated Guided Vehicle) 기반의 무인이송시스템을 운영하고 있다. AGV는 컨테이너의 상하차 작업 시 타장비의 도움을 필요로 한다. 이로 인하여 장비 간 대기시간이 발생하며, 이는 생산성을 떨어뜨리는 요인이 된다. 이와 같은 문제점을 해결한 무인이송장비로 ALV(Automated Lifting Vehicle)가 있다. ALV는 자가하역기능이 있어 타장비의 도움 없이 상하차 작업이 가능하다. 본 연구에서는 시뮬레이션을 통하여 각 이송시스템의 생산성을 비교하였다. 시뮬레이션은 이송시스템의 배차 방식과 안벽장비의 종류를 다양하게 설정하고, 무인이송장비의 가감속 운동 및 충돌을 고려하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과 소수의 경우를 제외하고는 ALV 기반의 이송시스템이 AGV 기반의 이송시스템보다 높은 생산성을 보여주었다.

  • Construction of automated terminal it urgently demanded to gain the foundation of hub-port in north east Asia. Therefore we suggest an adequate operating system layout of automated terminal in Korea. In this paper the aim of automated terminal operating system is satisfied. four basic models are divided according to moving course of export and import cargo of each automated equipments, several input data are changed and analyzed dynamically by Trial and Error method, and then an optimized operating system model is selected, and designed for yard operating system layout on the basis of the selected model. Particularly, the productivity of automated port is up to the kind of automated equipments. However, because expense and present work process must be considered actually. In order to prevent confusion of the work, the method to optimize the present work and substitute prevent equipments and automated equipments was designed. It is a premise that ail the yard equipments described in this paper must be automatic except quay crane.

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the efficiency of marshalling work using ATC(automated transfer crane) for ACT(automated container terminal). It is important fact to assignment of containers, because the character of ACT which block layout is vertical for berth and there are four other works which are inbound, oubound, loading and unloading in one block. And then there is need which assignment of containers with remarshaling work using ATCs in one block.   • 효율적인 항만 운영을 위해서는 항만 하역 장비의 자동화와 하역 장비의 효과적인 운영이 필요하다. 하역 장비를 제작하고 그 운영을 실제로 현장에서 직접 시도하여 그 결과를 분석하기에는 시간과 비용이 많이 소모되므로 이를 효과적으로 행하기 위해서 시뮬레이션 방법이 많이 이용된다. 본 논문은 VR 기술을 항만 하역 장비의 시뮬레이션에 적용한 것으로, 기존 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션의 단점인 현실감 부족을 개선하고 실제 하역 장비의 모형을 만들어 시뮬레이션에 이용했다. 사용자는 실제 하역 장비들의 하역 과정을 3차원 공간에서 표현된 컴퓨터 화면을 통해 현장과 유사한 현실감을 느끼면서 시뮬레이션 할 수 있으며, 하역 장비들에 대한 다양한 정보를 얻을 수 있다. 향후로는 실제 하역 장비의 이동과 위치 추정 및 감시, 작업 통제 등이 가능한 하역 장비 운영을 위한 실시간 통합 운영 시스템이 될 수 있도록 할 예정이다.

The automated container terminal has already operated in advanced ports and it has been planned for the basic planning and operation design in domestic case. The key of automated container terminal is effective operation of both ATC(automated transfer crane) and AGV(automated guided vehicle) which is automated handling equipments. This is essential to poductivity of automated container terminal. This study suggests the most optimal method of equipment operation in order to minimize loading time using each three types of effective ATC operation methods and AGV dispatching rules in automated container terminals. As the automated equipment operation causes unexpected deadlocks or interferences, it should be proceeded on event-based real time. Therefore we propose the most effective ATC operation methods and AGV dispatching rules in this paper. The various states occurred in real automated container terminals are simulated to evaluate these methods. This experiment will show the most robust automated equipment operation method on various parameters(the degree of yard re-marshaling, the number of containers and the number of AGVs)
