  • Pilots are indispensable and central to the aviation industry, with the relevance of their psychological stress and resultant human errors increasingly recognized as critical. This study aims to meticulously explore the interrelations between psychological stressors and associated factors among helicopter pilots, assessing the consequent effects on potential accidents and incidents. The study comprised active pilots from domestic helicopter airlines, with data collated through both focus group interviews (FGI) and comprehensive surveys. These data were subsequently analyzed using SPSS and AMOS for structural equation modeling. The results reveal that heightened psychological stress in helicopter pilots correlates with an increased incidence of human errors, which in turn, elevates the likelihood of potential safety incidents. Based on these findings, it is proposed that interventions designed to mitigate psychological stress among pilots could significantly reduce human errors and enhance overall aviation safety. This research provides crucial insights into specific ways to improve the operational conditions for helicopter pilots and strengthen the safety protocols within the aviation industry.

  • The first successful sustained powered flight by Wright Brothers was further extended to the rapid development of aviation technology, that led to transpacific flights, the invention of supersonic planes, and enabled hundreds of people to travel in the space, in addition to the fact that around 10 people had stepped on the moon, all of which were made possible within the very same century. However, on the back side of this most wondrous human technology, the vulnerableness to the aviation accident has been constantly accompanied with, right from the very beginning stage of the aircraft development. Moreover, the development of future aircraft is being focused on the aircraft performance, the increment of the number of passengers aboard and also its speed. In proportion to these phenomena of mega sizing the aircraft, the development of new technology and the increment of air traffic volume, the number of aviation accident is expected to augment, resulting in the enormous loss of human lives and properties. In order to prevent the disastrous aviation accident as such, it is essential to conduct the accident investigation in a specialized, systematic and scientific manner. In search for the method to attain the effective function of the aviation accident investigation organization, in this study, issues were examined as follows: The full-time Board Members and the establishment of an integrated investigation agency, The systematized security of status as an accident investigator, Inclusion of a human factors specialist in the investigator group organization, liability limit of an accident investigator Stipulation of the definition and the investigation scope of an accident and serious incident, along with the main body of conducting the investigation into the accident involving both civil and public aircraft, in the regulations related to the accident investigation.

  • The international community has done a lot of effort to improve the aviation safety. The new high technologies, systems and development of navigation equipments considerably improved the level of aviation safety. However, the aviation accident rate has been showing unchanged status without the decline since 1980. It means it is difficult to secure enough safety by the existing efforts to improve the aviation safety, eventually needs new methods for the accident prevention. With this in mind, the nations interest new methods that can consider a countermeasure by realizing potential risk factors before fatal accidents. In other words, that is to analyze and share the safety information collected from accidents by establishing aviation safety information system. To establish international aviation safety information system, each country's aviation accident incident reporting systems are need to be established. Also aviation safety data taxonomy is need to be standardized. Then, aviation users will communicate the information efficiently. This study investigates and considers each country's aviation accident incident database taxonomy for the analysis of the aviation data and the necessary prevention activity. This will contribute to a better international aviation safety and strengthen the country's aviation diplomacy.

  • This study analyzes the influential factors and patterns associated with death from aircraft accidents and incidents using data mining techniques. To this end, we used two datasets for aircraft accidents and incidents, one from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the other from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). We developed our prediction models using the decision tree classifier to predict death from aircraft accidents or aircraft incidents and thereby derive the main cause factors and patterns that can cause death based on these prediction models. In the NTSB data, deaths occurred frequently when the aircraft was destroyed or people were performing dangerous missions or maneuver. In the FAA data, deaths were mainly caused by pilots who were less skilled or less qualified when their aircraft were partially destroyed. Several death-related patterns were also found for parachute jumping and aircraft ascending and descending phases. Using the derived patterns, we proposed helpful strategies to prevent death from the aircraft accidents or incidents.
