  • In case of South Korea, the airspace which airlines can operate is extremely limited due to the military operational area located within the Incheon flight information region. As a result, safety problems such as mid-air collision between aircraft or Traffic alert and Collision Avoidance System Resolution Advisory (TCAS RA) may occur with higher probability than in wider airspace. In order to prevent such safety problems, an mid-air collision risk detection model based on Detect-And-Avoid (DAA) well clear metrics is investigated. The model calculates the risk of mid-air collision between aircraft using aircraft trajectory data. In this paper, the practical use of DAA well clear metrics based model has been validated. Aviation safety data such as aviation safety mandatory report and Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast is used to measure the performance of the model. The attributes of individual aircraft track data is analyzed to correct the threshold of each parameter of the model.

  • A test stand was developed to measure static performance of a reciprocating engine on the ground, related to the small aircraft being developed by KARI. The test stand consists of an apparatus to install and operate a pusher-type propulsion system and a data acquisition system to process many performance parameters including engine torque and propeller thrust as well as monitoring of the engine operations. First, the performance data from the basic operation tests were compared with the original engine data so the capacity of the test stand was verified. Engine performance tests were carried out with various test conditions through three stages, and it was measured and analyzed that the manifold pressure, the torque, and the back pressure of the engine, and the static thrust of the propeller.

  • Data Fusion algorithm is essential in Target Detection using radar, and it has more reliability. In this paper, Multi Radar Fusion algorithm using IMM(Interacting Multiple Model) filter is suggested. This well-known IMM filter has better performance than Kalman filter has. In this simulation, Distributed Data Fusion process was applied, and three sub-filters and one main filter were employed. In addition, this simulation was evaluated by virtual radar data which include constant velocity, constant accelerate, turn rate. The result of an evaluation shows better performance in the maneuvering section of aircraft.

  • In this paper, we have performed the analysis of RF transceiver system and communication link for the improvement in reliability of Smart-UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) Data-Link. The system analysis performed using the development specification of the data link and data sheet of using components through the system simulation tool that is Agilent EEsof ADS. Also, the communication link analysis peformed using a variety of propagation models for the smart UAV operation environments. As a result, we have presented problems appeared in the simulation results and development specification. As well as, we have presented about several problems and consideration issue for system design through the communication link analysis.

  • In this paper, we propose a new DPCM-based transmission scheme for flight data. The amount of the flight data from LRU to MC has been increased due to the emergence and development of avionics systems and functions. It becomes a serious issue for satisfying the hard real-time processing required in the MC. In order to solve this problem, we observed the flight data produced by X-Plane simulator and discovered that the most flight data are moderately varied during flight. Based on this fact, a new data format is suggested by modifying that of ARINC-429 protocol in this paper. And the different value of the flight data is transmitted in the proposed scheme. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves 20% data transfer gain compared to the ARINC-429 based transmission method.

  • In this paper, we propose a fusion classification method combining HRRP and JEM classifier with complementary properties for the classification of aircraft. The fusion method is based on the confidence of a classifier for a classification result to improve performance compared with single classifier in various situations. The confidence is defined as the posterior probability estimated from the classification performance of a classifier and it depends on the aspect angle and the certainty for a classification result. Through the classification test using simulation data, we can verify that the proposed fusion method shows good performance by fusing the classifiers effectively.

  • Performance variation of autorotating rotor was investigated. The shaft angle of the rotor is reduced while the flight velocity is increased. The BO-105 helicopter rotor blade was replaced by untwisted NACA 0012 airfoil and the rotor was simulated by using Transient Simulation Method(TSM) to judge the autorotation region for the variables. To simulate the compressibility effect at high speed flight, two-dimensional aerodynamic data was analyzed by compressible Navier-Stokes solver and Pitt/Peters inflow theory was adopted to simulate the induced velocity field. Thrust and lift coefficients, lift to drag ratio variations were investigated, also the lift and power were compared to those of BO-105 helicopter. Sharing lift and power between the autorotating rotor and wing was considered when the compound aircraft concept is introduced.

  • Media access control(MAC) protocol that is used between aircraft and ground station now is non-persistent CSMA protocol, but this protocol hs defects to apply in the wireless mobile radio communication environment. In this paper, to solve this Problems, the modified ICMA/CD protocol which ban be applied in the wireless environment was proposed and analyzed. In the modified ICMA/CD protocol, instead of usig special control channel, control signal was inserted into the uplink message. After the analysis, simulation was performed to approve the analysis resutls. As a results, modified ICMA/CD protocol can solve the hidden termined effect of CSMA protocol and packet detection delay time problem of ICMA/CD protocol and acquired the same channel throughput as CSMA/CD protocol. This results shows the modified ICMA/CD protocol can be used in the aeronauical telecommunication.

  • This paper presents the simulation results of GBAS availability and requirement (with respected to Vertical Protection Level) using simulated data at CAT I, CAT II/III DH point (Decision Height), which are generated using Jeju international GNSS reference position, aircraft horizontal velocity and reference/aircraft GNSS antenna performance index and so on. Two kinds of protection levels are presented, one is from a hypothesis (H0) and other is from a alternative hypothesis (H1). These protection levels are compared with AL (Alert Limit), and we analyse the GBAS availability and requirement for CAT I and CAT II/III at the airport.
