The Design of 35GHz Multi-Purpose Navigation Radar For Lower Speed Aircraft (저속 항공기를 위한 35GHz 다기능 항행 레이다 설계)

  • 민항기나 군용항공기의 경우 대부분 항행 안전성을 확보하기 위해 다양한 기능을 수행하는 레이다가 부착되어 있으나, 소형항공기 및 저가의 헬기의 경우 무게, 비용 등의 제약으로 항행 안전을 확보할 수 있는 레이다가 장착되어 있지 않는 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 민항기 및 군용 항공기뿐만이 아니라 헬기 및 소형항공기에 장착하여 충돌감지, 이착륙보조, 기상관측 등의 기능을 수행할 수 있는 레이다로 35GHz 밀리미터 대역의 항공기 탑재형 레이다의 적용에 대한 제반 요건과 필요성에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 그리고 제안된 레이다를 이용하면, 저속 항공기 및 헬기에서는 치명적인 사고를 유발시킬 수 있는 전력선 탐지가 가능함을 확인함으로써, 제안된 레이다가 항행 안전성을 높일 수 있음을 보임으로써 밀리미터 대역 레이다의 적용이 가능함을 확인하였다.

  • In this paper, a simulation test bed is presented which operates to provide full-scale simulation of airborne multi-function phased array radars. This simulation test bed provides a capability to evaluate the target tracking performance. To realize aircraft operation scenario, we developed 6DOF aircraft dynamics model which can generate trajectories and attitude of an aircraft. This procedure includes steady state flight trim search, autopilot design, and aircraft guidance command design. Also, the radar-environment integrated simulator includes target detection/measurement model and tracking filter. Developed simulator is validated by creating an air-to-air scenario.

Doppler Profile Extraction to Air-Breathing Targets with PT-Waveform Received Signal and Target Tracking Information on a Ground Radar (지상레이다의 PT-파형 수신신호와 항공기 추적정보를 이용한 항공기 도플러 프로파일 추출)

  • This paper has been shown for the extraction of Doppler signature from the radar signal for an air-breathing targets tracked in the ground radar. For the extractions, a Doppler resolution is confirmed from mathematical modeling of PT(pulse train) waveform. Doppler signatures of air-breathing target are varied to radar aspect angle of engine and are determined from physical parameter of jet engine. To confirm such Doppler signatures, the radar signal reflected from the air-breathing target is obtained by our radar signal storage. After this extraction, radar aspect angle of engine has estimated from tracking information. Relative differences of Doppler signatures to radar aspect angle of engine is verified from these results and Doppler profiles for radar target identification appliance are presented.

  • This study is a study on the analysis and measurement of the radar cross-sectional area of a miniature aircraft. Radar cross-sectional area for miniature aircraft in advance were analyzed using an electromagnetic analysis tool, and an actual miniature aircraft was manufactured and measured in an anechoic chamber. When measuring, the old model was used as reference data for RCS(radar cross section) characteristics and applied to the test result data of the actual reduced model. The measurement method improved the accuracy of the measurement by applying time gating to remove the influence on the components scattered inside the anechoic chamber. The RCS test results of the reduced model showed relatively high RCS characteristics in the microwave band, as the previous analysis results. In the future, we plan to utilize the method of RCS analysis and measurement for the target of the radar in the VHF(Very High Frequency)/UHF(Ultra High Frequency) band with a relatively large wavelength.

  • Recently, active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, electro-optical and infrared (EO-IR) and infra-red search and track (IRST) sensors are under development in the Korean fighter experimental(KF-X) project, and AESA radar is currently undergoing preliminary research for flight testing. This paper focuses on the flying test bed (FTB) aircraft operation cases of developed countries in accordance with AESA radar development. As a result, we review domestic laws and regulations related to the airworthiness for FTB aircraft to operate in domestic environment and look for ways to operate FTB aircraft. Therefore, we propose how to selecting, airworthiness and operating FTB aircraft suitable for the domestic environment.

Development of High power Threat Signal Simulator and Interfacing Tracking Radar (고출력 위협신호 모의장치 개발 및 추적레이다 연동)

  • In this study, in order to test the performance of the aircraft system, a threat signal simulator that can transmit a signal similar to the actual threat to the aircraft under test with high power was designed. The high-power threat signal simulator should be able to transmit broadband (UHF band, L band, S band, X band) communication signals and radar signals, and control to transmit signals accurately directed to the aircraft through interfacing tracking radar. The signal strength of the developed equipment is 63 dBm to 93 dBm or more depending on type of signal, and the tracking precision is less than 0.1 degree, which satisfies the required performance. And it was confirmed that the antenna of the high-power threat signal simulator can accurately direct the signal to the aircraft position through the tracking radar interfacing.

  • Radars used by air-crafts have two important characteristics; First, they should have a real-time signal processing system finishing signal processing before deadline while getting and processing successive in-phase and quadrature data. Second, they can cover a lot of modes including A2A(Air to Air), A2G(Air to Gound), A2S(Air to Sea), and Ground Map(GM). So the structure of radar signal processing SWs in modern airborne radars are becoming more complicate. Also, the implementation of radar signal processing SW needs to reuse common code blocks between other modes for efficiency or change some of the code blocks into alternative algorithm blocks. These are the reason why the radar signal processing SW framework suggested in this paper is taking advantage of modular programming. This paper proposes an modular framework applicable on the airborne radar signal processing SW maintaining the real-time characteristic using the signal processing procedures for A2G/A2S as examples.

  • '항공기와 레이다'는 '창과 방패'와 같은 관계처럼 어떤 때는 서로 상대하는 어떤 때는 상호 협동하는 모습으로 늘 같이 존재한다. 기습공격이 동서고금을 망라한 전쟁의 기본양상이라면 현대전에서 공중공격은 가장 빠르고 효과적인 기습작적이었고 앞으로도 그 양상은 계속 변하지 않을 전망이다.
