The temperature data were measured for two years in a bridge specimen and the bridge in service nearby in order to calculate the effective temperature for thermal loads in steel box girder bridge. The maximum and minimum effective temperatures were calculated in the bridge specimen and the bridge according to air temperature in 2014, 2015 and 2years. The effective temperatures calculated in this study were compared the Euro code and the Highway Bridge Design Criteria. The coefficients of determination in the maximum effective temperature and the Euro code for 2 year were calculated from R = 0.927, R = 0.894 in a bridge specimen and the bridge respectively. Those of minimum temperature and the Euro code were analyzed from R = 0.992, R = 0.813 in two bridge respectively. Also, the results were evaluated as being very similar, or slightly increased as compared with the maximum temperature of the Korean Highway Bridge Design Code(Limit State Design).

The design comparison and flexural reliability analysis of continuous span composite plate girder bridges are performed. The girders are designed by the methods of allowable stress design (ASD) and load and resistance factor design (LRFD). For the LRFD design, the design specification under development mainly by KBRC, based on AASHTO-LRFD specification in case of steel structures, is applied with the newly proposed design live load which has been developed by analyzing domestic traffic statistics from highways and local roads. For the ASD based design, the current KHBDC code with DB-24 and DL-24 live loads is used. The longest span length for the 3-span continuous bridges with span arrangement ratio of 4:5:4 is assumed to be from 30 m to 80 m. The amount of steel, performance ratios, and governing design factors for the sections designed by the ASD and LRFD methods are compared. In the reliability analysis for the flexural failure of the sections designed by two methods, the statistical properties on flexural resistance based on the yield strength statistics for over 16,000 domestic structural steel samples are applied.

In the paper, the design and the implementation of the netscape plug-in and the speech synthesis enginegenerating the speech sounds from the text information of the web pages are described. The steps of the generating speech sound from an web pages are the speech synthesis plug-in is activated when the netscape finds the audio/xesp MIME data type embedded in the browsed web page; the HTML file referenced in the EMBED MTML tag is down loaded from the referenced URL to send to the commander object located in the said plug-in; The speech synthesis engine control tags and the text characters are extracted from the down loaded HTML document by the commander object the synthesized speech sounds are generated by the speech synthesis engine. The speech synthesis engine interprets the command streams from the commander objects to call the member functions for the processing of the speech segment data in the data banks. The commander object and the speech synthesis engine are designed as an independent object to enhancethe flexitility and the portability.

This paper deals with the fatigue behavior and strength of a new-type of steel-concrete composite bridge deck. The new-type composite bridge deck consists of corrugated steel plate, welded T-beams, stud-type shear connectors and reinforced concrete filler. A total of eight composite bridge deck specimens were fabricated, the fatigue tests were conducted under four-point bending test with three different stress ranges in constant amplitude. According to the test results, the fatigue crack generated at the welding part of the corrugated steel plate, progressed down to the bottom of the steel plate and encountered the crack, which came out from the opposite side at the same position. After the two cracks were connected at the bottom of the steel plate, the lower flange was cut off and the fatigue crack developed up to the T-beam. And the displacements and strains of fatigue test specimens were increasing with cyclic loading number, these were changed sharply at the fatigue failure. The fatigue results are compared with the design S-N curves specified in the Korea Highway Bridge Design Specifications and data in NCHRP 102 and NCHRP 147 report. The new-type composite bridge deck has a stress category of C, which means that new-type composite bridge deck can be designed by the current fatigue design specifications provided for steel members.

Precast concrete deck has many advantages comparing with the in-situ concrete deck, and has been successfully applied to replacement of the deteriorated decks and to the newly constructed highway bridges in domestic region. In order to apply the precast decks into the railway bridges, however, differences of the load characteristics between the highway and the railway should be properly taken into account including the train load, longitudinal force of the continuous welded rail, acceleration or braking force, temperature change and shrinkage. Proper level of the longitudinal prestress of the tendons that can ensure integrity of the transverse joints in the deck system is of a primary importance. To this aim, the longitudinal tensile stresses induced by the design loads are derived using three-dimensional finite element analyses for the frequently adopted PSC composite girder railway bridge. The effect of the temperature change is also investigated considering the design codes and theoretical equations in an in-depth manner. The estimated proper prestress level to counteract those tensile stresses is above 2.4 MPa, which is similar to the case of the highway bridges.

The interference between the lattice bar of existing LB-DECK and the bars placed at site degrades the constructability, which is pointed as a problem. HB-DECK simplified the shape of lattice bar, and converted the direction of main rebar direction to the distributing bar direction, and installed the rib on the underside of HB-DECK to increase the stiffness. The purpose of this study is to verify the structural performance of HB-DECK and cast in place concrete slab. The static load test was conducted to verify the structural performance according to Korean highway bridge design code(2015) and composite behavior of HB-DECK with Cast in Place Concrete Slab. Three-dimensional finite element analysis was carried by MIDAS FEA, and analyzed to compare the result of analysis and experiment. At a result, composite behavior was examined between HB-DECK and cast in place concrete slab, and structural performance satisfied Korean highway bridge design code(2015).
In this paper, we described the aeroelastic full-bridge model tests that were conducted to investigate the effect of alternative temporary stabilizing measures for thecable-stayed bridge during construction to ensure aerodynamic stability in the event of a typhoon or similar disasters. The effect of alternative temporary stabilizing measures was investigated through various configurations on two cable-stayed bridges with a main span of 475 m and 230 m, respectively. To investigate the bridge's aerodynamic behaviour and dynamic wind force during construction, the deflections at the end of the cantilever, the accelerations atthe top of the pylon and the moments at the lower part of the pylon were measured. As the result, the system with two sets of vertical cables per cantilever seemed to be the overall most effective solution, but the system with single vertical cable may also work. The combined system using the caisson support and vertical cables and the system with two sets of inclined cables per cantilever on the same anchor block may also be a solution. The inclined cables from the caisson to the girder were effective for some early stages of erecting the deck.

An ultra-high strength prestressed prismatic beam of 100 MPa in compressive strength was developed by increasing the water-tightness of concrete by utilizing centrifugal molding processes without adding expensive admixtures. The centrifugal prismatic PSC beam developed as the superstructure of the avalanche tunnel was constructed on a rahmen bridge in a small local river. In this study, the centrifugal prismatic beam was compared and analyzed based on the results of measurements made through static load tests and the results of numerical analysis of the target structure. The common load-carrying capacity and safety of the rahmen bridge were evaluated. The static·dynamic load tests and finite element analysis results of this bridge were similar, and it was confirmed that the behavior of the centrifugal prismatic beam was well simulated. All centrifugally formed square beams that make up the composite rahmen bridge were evaluated to secure sufficient load carrying capacity under the design live load, and structural reliability was proven by ensuring safety.

According to Korea Highway Bridge Design Code the bridge deck is designed by the strength design method and is regarded as a beam possessing the unit width based on the bending theory. By many researches it is revealed that the existing bridge deck is failed by punching shear. For evaluating the ultimate capacity of bridge deck it is important to estimate the behavior of bridge deck under the punching shear. For the punching strength it is difficult that the existing research results are applied to the simplified composite deck. In this study for comparing characteristics on punching shear the punching shear tests on simplified composite deck and RC deck are performed. The punching shear strength of simplified composite deck is compared with several bridge design codes.
This study proposes a double-composite section to enhance the s serviceability of twin-girder railway bridges, especially in terms of the flexural stiffness of the composite section in negative-moment regions. This paper deals with experiments on continuous twin-girder bridge models with 5m-5m span length with the proposed double-composite action. From results of static tests on the bridge models, several design considerations were investigated including effective width, shear connection and ultimate strength of the double-composite concrete slab showed full shear connection, which verified the suggested empirical equation. From the flexural behavior of the double-composite section, the effective width of the bottom concrete slab can be evaluated as that of the concrete slab under compression. The ultimate flexural strength of the bridge models verified the validity of the rigid plastic analysis of the double-composite section. Design guidelines were suggested based on the test results.
