Improvement of Control Performance of Array-Sensor System Using Soft Computing (Soft Computing을 이용한 배열 센서 시스템의 제어 성능 개선)

  • In this paper, we propose a method to obtain a linear characteristic using soft computing for systems which have array sensors of nonlinear characteristics. Also a procedure utilizing the pattern information of array sensors without additional sensors is proposed to reduce disturbance effects. For a typical example, even a single CdS cell for CdS array has nonlinear characteristics. Overall linear characteristic for CdS array is obtained using fuzzy logic for each cell and overlapped portion. In addition, further improvement for linearization is obtained applying genetic algorithms for the parameters of membership functions. Also the effect of disturbing external light changes to the CdS array can be reduced without using any additional sensors for calibration. The proposed method based on fuzzy logic shows improvements for position measurements and disturbance reduction to external light changes due to the fuzziness of the shadow boundary as well as the inherent nonlinearity of the CdS array. This improvement is shown by applying the proposed method to the ball position measurements of a magnetic levitation system.

  • Recently, the event of slope failure has been occurring frequently due to rapid climate changes and broad development of infrastructures, and the research for establishment of monitoring and prevention system has been an attentive issue. The major influence factors of slope failure mechanism can be considered moisture and temperature in soil, and the slope failure can be monitored and predicted through the trend of moisture-temperature change. Therefore, the combined sensing technology for the continuous measurement of moisture-temperature with different soil depths is needed for the slope monitoring system. The various independent sensors for each item (i.e. temperature and moisture respectively) have been developed, however, the research for development of combined sensing system has been hardly carried out. In this study, the high-fidelity sensor combing temperature-moisture measurement by using the minimized current consuming temperature circuit and the microwave emission moisture sensor is developed and applied on the slope failure monitoring system. The feasibility of developed monitoring system is verified by various experimental approaches such as standard performance test, mockup test and long-term field test. As a result, the developed temperature-moisture combined measurement system is verified to be measuring and monitoring the temperature and moisture in soil accurately.

Empirical Characterization of an Air-cored Induction Coil Sensor using Constructional Parameters (Air-cored induction 코일 센서의 실험 기반 고주파 특성 모델링에 대한 연구)

  • This paper presents empirical equations indicating the high frequency performance characteristics of air-cored induction coil sensors with their constructional parameters. An air-cored induction coil sensor is widely used due to good linearity at low frequency ranges but the sensor has weakness of relatively low sensitivity to the magnetic field. At high frequency ranges, the sensitivity can be dramatically increased, largely depending on the frequency of the injected field, and this property can be a great asset to some electromagnetic inspections, since they utilize the interrogating current with a fixed frequency. The application of this property of the coil sensor requires the estimation of its high frequency performance. We made experiments on the frequency responses of the coil sensors under diverse constructional conditions and, on the basis of the experimental results, the high frequency performance, such as the resonant frequency and the sensitivity at the frequency, was estimated, as a function of the constructional parameters of the coil sensor. The good agreements between experimental and estimated data were reported.

Beamforming Method for Target Range Estimation Using Near Field Shading Function (근거리 쉐이딩 함수를 이용한 표적 거리 추정 빔형성 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose shading functions to the appropriate focused beamforming for near-field target estimation. This near field shading functions are based on Chebychev and Manning windows. In order to obtain the optimum sensor weighting values with the help of the proposed shading technique, we assume that the sensor positions associated to the non-uniformly distributed array are precisely known. We calculate a series of sensor weighting values from the FFT operation of given shading functions in time domain. By applying the shading weights on the sensor array, we can see that the level of sidelobe becomes diminished and the performance of estimating range and azimuth gets improved. In addition, we propose a non-uniform structure in terms of frequency bands, which may minimize the attenuation of incoming signals.

  • This paper describes implementation of functions for mobile robot localization, which is one of the vital technologies for autonomous navigation of a mobile robot. There are several function libraries for mobile robot navigation. Some of them have limited applicability for practical use since they can be used only for simulation. Our research focuses on development of functions which can be used for localization of indoor robots. The functions implement deadreckoning and motion model of mobile robots, measurement model of range sensors, and frequently used calculations on angular directions. The functions encompass various types of robots and sensors. Also, various types of uncertainties in robot motion and sensor measurements are implemented so that the user can select proper ones for their use. The functions are tested and verified through simulation and experiments.

Quantification of Rockwool Substrate Water Content using a Capacitive Water Sensor (정전용량 수분센서의 배지 함수량 정량화)

  • A capacitive water sensor was developed to measure the capacitance over a wide part of a substrate using an insulated electrode plate (30 cm × 10 cm) with copper and Teflon attached on either side of the substrate. This study aimed to convert the capacitance output obtained from the condenser-type capacitance sensor into the substrate water content. The quantification experiment was performed by measuring the changes in substrate water weight and capacitance while providing a nutrient solution and by subsequently comparing these values. The substrate water weight and capacitance were measured every 20 to 30 seconds using the sensor and load cell with a software developed specifically for this study. Using a curve-fitting program, the substrate water content was estimated from the output of the capacitance using the water weight and capacitance of the substrate as variables. When the amount of water supplied was increased, the capacitance tended to increase. Coefficient of variation (CV) in capacitance according to the water weight in substrate was greater with the 1.0 kg of water weight, compared with other weights. Thus, the fitting was performed with higher than 1.0 kg, from 1.7 to 6.0 kg of water weight. The correlation coefficient between the capacitance and water weight in substrate was 0.9696. The calibration equation estimated water content from the capacitance, and it was compared with the substrate water weight measured by the load cell.

Low-complexity Sensor Selection Based on QR factorization (QR 분해에 기반한 저 복잡도 센서 선택 알고리즘)

  • We study the problem of selecting a subset of sensor nodes in sensor networks in order to maximize the performance of parameter estimation. To achieve a low-complexity sensor selection algorithm, we propose a greedy iterative algorithm that allows us to select one sensor node at a time so as to maximize the log-determinant of the inverse of the estimation error covariance matrix without resort to direct minimization of the estimation error. We apply QR factorization to the observation matrix in the log-determinant to derive an analytic selection rule which enables a fast selection of the next node at each iteration. We conduct the extensive experiments to show that the proposed algorithm offers a competitive performance in terms of estimation performance and complexity as compared with previous sensor selection techniques and provides a practical solution to the selection problem for various network applications.

  • 본 논문은 파라미터 변동에 잘 적응하며 강인한 영구자석 동기전동기의 위치센서 없는 센서리스 제어를 위해 개선된 슬라이딩 모드 관측기에 고정자 저항 추정기능을 추가한 새로운 슬라이딩 모드 적응 관측기를 제안한다. 제안된 관측기는 개선된 슬라이딩 모드 관측기를 사용함으로써 기존의 슬라이딩 모드 관측기에서 채터링(Chattering) 문제 해결을 위해 저역통과필터(Low-pass filter)의 사용 및 추가적인 회전자의 위치보상은 Sigmoid 함수를 스위칭 함수로 사용하므로 제거 할 수가 있다. 또한 고정자 저항 추정기능을 추가하여 센서리스 운행 중 환경적 요인으로 인한 고정자 저항값의 변동이나 초기에 고정자 저항값을 잘못 알고 있더라도 빠른 적응을 통해서 추정오차를 절감시켜 전동기의 속도추정 성능을 향상시킬수 있다. 또한 기존의 적응 슬라이딩 모드 관측기에서의 적분연산을 줄임으로써 제어시스템의 성능을 개선시켰다 제안된 관측기의 안정성은 Lyapunov 후보 함수를 이용하여 관측기의 이득을 설정함으로써 검증하였으며 관측기의 성능은 시뮬레이션을 통한 실험을 통하여 그 타당성을 입증하였다.

  • In this paper the normalized innovations squared of a Kalman filter is used to detect a bias level in prediction errors due to target accelerations. The probability density function of the normalized innovation squared is obtained for a steady state Kalman filter, and it is used to calculate the detection probability of the bias level. A typical example is given to compute the detection probability and to plot the maneuver detector operating characteristic curves.

  • 최근 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅 환경에서 핵심적인 요소 기술인 상황인식 시스템을 실현하기 위해 이에 필요한 상황정보를 수집하는데 점차 센서의 활용과 응용분야가 확대되고 있다. 상황인식 서비스는 센서로부터 수집된 상황정보의 수집 및 교환을 통해 인식하고, 해석 및 추론 과정을 거쳐 사용자에게 상황에 적절한 서비스를 제공하는 것으로 매장, 의료, 교육 등의 응용분야에서 많이 연구되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 Boole 함수 및 다치 논리함수의 미분을 이용하여 유비쿼터스 환경 하에서 주변상황 등을 인식하는 방법과 그 인식 결과를 해석하고 주변상황의 변화에 따른 적절한 서비스를 제공하는 모델을 제안하고 적용 예를 통하여 확인한다.
