  • Juan $Mars{\acute{e}}$ was born in 1933 in Barcelona. Being the son of a City cleaner, he was able to watch, from a very early age, all the films he desired, as many times as he wished. This privilege meant a great help in future years, when having to develop the plots and characters of his works. In his last (latest) novel, Caligrafía de los $sue{\tilde{n}}os$, published in 2011, as he has done in his previous works he uses a cinematographic frame again. The explicit references to Hollywood's Golden Age -such as John Ford's Stagecoach and Cecil B. DeMiller's The Plainsman- bring very specific and vivid images to the reader's mind, leading to clear physical and psychological associations. The aim is achieved: the reader's attention is caught immediately. However, characters, plot and cinematographic structures are actually distracting mirages. They make the reader expect a predictable ending which, in fact, will be very different. Therefore, the surprised reader must step back, in order to approach the main topics of the novel from a certain distance. Doing so, he's following the Theory of the Distancing Effect. He becomes aware of the need of a new perspective on social problems that he had considered as familiar justo a few moments before. Thus, he is getting prepared for a more objective interpretation, such as the futility of war and the ideological differences that led to the (Spanich) Civil War and all its devastationg effects.

  • The term "B film" is contrasted to the term "A film" and it has started life since the Great Depression. Film industry had planned the double bills for the audience attraction; double bills means the release of A film and B film. While A's is made to make profits, B's film is made to meet the balance. B film has two features of low budget and low technology. Nevertheless B film has its own style and aesthetics and ironically has made the film more creative and innovative. Historically, it has been related to European and American avant-garde. Robert Florey who is worthy of notice among the early B film makers has adapted and integrated the expressionist and avant-garde styles into the American feature. He also preferred the greater liberty generally afforded "B" directors. Florey has directed Murders in the Rue Morgue and The Florentine Dagger due to the success of his experimental films. Murders in the Rue Morgue shows the style and aesthetics of avant-garde through horror genre and The Florentine Dagger shows the style and aesthetics of avant-garde through thriller genre.

For the domestic film market and audiences, the idea French cinema is generally equivalent to 'diversity cinema' or 'arthouse films' is common notion. In this respect, French movies introduced throughout the country would be culture product into which one can read other cultural significances different from that of domestic cinema, and also serve significant cultural value to understand diversity in cinema, for domestic audiences. • The marriage between music and film, both temporal art forms, demands that the inherent aspects of note in each medium are brought into correspondence within a dramatic context. In film-making, the most crucial and difficult problem a film composer faces is finding the music that seems absolutely right for the film and its characters, sequences and dramatic lines. When writing a film score, composers become musical dramatists; some have a special instinct that enables them to find the right kind of melodic line, orchestral texture, rhythmic device and musical style to bring out what they intuitively recognize as the essential aspect of the drama. In this study, several examples are cited - Alex North, Hugo Friedhofer, Bernard Herrmann and David Raksin - that underline this kinetic function of music in film. Effort is made to uncover as many possibilities as possible, so as to arrive at a better understanding of how the two media interrelate for the purpose of emphasizing the dramatic lines.

  • The advent of the handheld camera has dramatically transformed film production and consumption in countless ways. French director and theorist, Alexandre Astruc focuses on the development of 16mm camera and foretell film will be used as a tool to realize the personal vision of the author like other art. As proof of his claim French New Wave and Cinéma vérité create the film with handheld camera on the real location to capture new reality. Their films are distinguished itself from other films made by conventional Hollywood studios. Similarly, John Cassavetes in the United States began to focus on the handheld camera. Since then the handheld camera has become one of the popular shooting methods. Especially, handheld camera are noted for their agile movement and mobility as a way to capture various realities. However, with the advances in technology, lighter cameras and higher resolution have changed in different ways. The technology is neutral, one shooting method does not serve for one philosophy or ism. At one time, handheld shooting is now used as not only a means to capture the real world but also a tool to mimic a realistic feeling.
