중등 지구과학교과서와 대학 교재에서 학습하는 광물과 암석 이름은 대부분 영어, 한자, 일본어에서 도입한 용어이다. 이 용어에 대한 어원과 말뜻에 대한 분석이나 연구가 되지 않은 상태에서 바로 사용해왔기 때문에 지질학 초보자들이 학습하기에 아주 어렵다. 광물과 암석이름의 어원과 말뜻을 잘 알지 못하고 단순히 외우거나 학술적인 이름이나 의미만을 생각하고 사용하고 있으며, 한 광물이나 암석에 대하여 여러 가지 이름을 사용하기도 한다. 심지어 전혀 엉뚱한 암석 이름이 대중 사이에서 사용되고 있지만 이를 통제하지도 못하고 그 명칭이 틀렸다는 것도 모르고 있다. 예를 들면 영어로 Shale을 중등 교과서와 대학 교재에서 영어 발음을 따라 한국어로 셰일이라고 표기하지만 중국과 일본에서는 혈암(頁岩)으로 표기한다. 우리나라의 대중 매체의 인터넷 사전과 대중들이 사용하는 용어는 중국어 혈암(頁岩)을 공공연하게 '혈암'으로 표기하고 있다. '혈(頁)'을 한자 사전에서 찾아보면 '머리 혈'과 '책 면 엽'으로 정리되어 있다. 그러면 셰일의 암석학적 특징으로 볼 때 혈암이라고 해야 하나? 엽암이라고 해야 하나? 과학과의 다른 분야에서는 어려운 한자를 쉬운 한글로 표준화하는 연구와 실행을 꾸준히 진행해오고 있다. 생물의 경우 생물의 어려운 학명을 이미 쉬운 한글로 표준화했으며, 그 학명이 학생과 대중들에게 널리 알려져 있다. 지구과학의 교과서 문장에 나오는 단어와 전문용어가 한자를 한글로 표기한 경우가 많은데 이 단어들을 하루 속히 한글로 표준화하여 전문가들이 먼저 사용하는 동시에 학생과 대중들에게 알려 주어야 한다. 이렇게 되면 지구과학의 내용보다 용어가 어렵다는 인식을 바꾸어 줄 것이고 지구과학을 전공하고자 하는 학생들에게 희망과 용기를 줄 것이다. 그 일환으로 광물과 암석 이름의 어원을 조사해 보고 한글 표준화의 가능성을 타진해 보고자 한다.

Most of mathematical terms in Korean are Sino-Korean words. It is necessary to find the efficient ways to teach Sino-Korean mathematical terms to mathematics teachers and students who dot not know Chinese characters well and use only Korean alphabet in mathematics. Especially, we have to avoid the inappropriate Sino-Korean words which can cause misconceptions and can distinguish homophones by Korean alphabet. We may use native Korean terms to do that and the national curriculum can play an important role. In this paper, we investigate the way of improving mathematics terms in Korea with concrete examples.

The purpose of this study was to analyze 9th grade students' understanding about the earth science terms written by Chinese characters depending on their loaming style and attitudes toward science. The study selected the eight students with the middle level of science achievement and divided into four groups: verbal-high attitude toward science, verbal-low attitude toward science, visual-high attitude toward science, and visual-low attitude toward science learners. Three types of questionnaires including Korean characters type, a picture type, md Korean and Chinese characters type were developed to determine the students' understanding about the earth science terms written by Chinese characters. The results of data indicated that the 9th grade students' understanding showed no significant difference by their different teaming style, and yet demonstrated higher level of understanding in Korean and Chinese characters type questionnaire rather than Korean characters type only or a picture type. On the other hand, the level of students' understandings both in Korean characters type and a picture type was about equal. In conclusion, it seems more effective in students' teaming about the earth science terms written by Chinese characters when they were provided with both Korean and Chinese characters.

인물 정보 검색 시스템은 사용자에게 종합적이고 정확한 정보와 편리한 사용자 인터페이스를 제공해야 한다. 하지만 현재 웹 상에서 이 시스템의 방대한 화장 한자 자료를 표현하는데 EUC-KR은 많은 어려움을 가지고 있다. 그리고 어려운 인명용 한자와 전문 한자 용어로 인해 일반인들의 사용이 어려웠다. 이를 해결하기 위해 본 논문에서는 확장된 한자를 표기하기 위하여 UTF-8 인코딩 방식을 사용한다. 그리고 사용자가 알기 원하는 한자의 한글 독음 변환 처리를 통해 데이터베이스의 효율성과 사용자가 쓰기 편한 인터페이스를 제공한다.

Unicode Han ideograph character set differed from the our principle of the phonetic value ordering in that it followed the principle of KangXi radical-stroke ordering of the characters. Therefore, information system should support ideograph search on precise analysis of materials which consist of korean character (hangul) and ideograph character (hanja). History Information system has been maintaining Hanja(Chinese Character) to Hangul Dictionary, Terminology Dictionary for composition, borrowing, non-ideographic principles, Variant Forms Dictionary, and Recently discovered Chinese Characters List.

국제정세의 변화와 오랜 통일에의 염원에 따라 남북한 상호간에 많은 교류가 예상되고 있다. 그러나 해방 후 분단 반세기 동안 남한과 북한은 전혀 교류가 없는 상태에서 서로 다른 길을 걸어왔기 때문에 모든 분야에서 상당한 이질감을 느낄 수 밖에 없다. 수학의 경우에도 분야에 따른 연구상황은 물론, 용어면에서도 많은 차이를 보인다. 우리가 별 노력없이 일본식 한자용어와 영어용어를 그대로 수용하고 있는 경향인데 반하여 북한에서는 한글화 작업에 많은 노력을 쏟아와 대부분의 수학용어들이 우리 고유의 한글로 정착되어 있다. 현재 우리의 감각에는 생소하고 어색한 단어들도 많지만 북한의 좋은 한글용어를 보완, 수정하는 등 중요 자료로 받아들여 우리의 수학용어를 체계화시킴으로써 통일된 앞날의 우리 수학발전에 기초로 삼아야 할 것이다.

1900년대 초에 발행된 천문학 서적 2권을 중심으로 사용된 천문학 용어를 현재와 비교분석하는 연구를 진행하였다. 우리는 두 서적에 사용된 용어에서 천문학용어, 화학원소 용어, 인물 및 지명 용어로 나누어서 현재의 과학용어사전과 비교하였다. 지금까지 사용되는 용어와 지금은 사용하지 않는 용어, 그리고 의미는 동일하지만 변화를 보인 용어로 나누어 분석하였다. 한 권의 천문학 서적에는 영어 색인이 포함되어 있어, 그 기준으로 현재와 비교하고, 나머지 천문학 서적은 본문에 나온 용어를 추려서 비교하였다. 용어를 통해서 두 권의 서적이 다른 경로로 수입 번역되었음을 알 수 있었고, 현재와 같이 용어의 통일이 없었다는 점에서 당시 천문학 교육의 한계점이 드러났다. 이 연구는 당시의 천문학 서적이나 관련 서적을 연구할 때, 한자 표기 없이 영어 어휘를 음차하여 표기된 용어를 동정하는데 도움을 줄 것으로 보인다.

'KS V 0054–단정용어' 는 '스포츠 및 오락용 단정' 의 용어에 대하여 규정하고 있다. '스포츠 및 오락용 단정'은 "플레저 보트" 라고 부르기도 한다. 특히, 단정(短_짧을 단, 艇_거룻배 정)은 소형선의 총칭으로 현재 국내에서는 소형 선박, 레저 보트, 플레저 보트, 레저 선박, 수상레저기구, 동력수상레저기구 등 용도 및 관계 법령에 따라 달리 정의하고 있다. 이에 일본식, 한자식 용어와 외래어가 혼용되어 사용되고 있는 플레저 보트(선체, 의장품, 범장 등)의 용어 표준화 방안을 제시 하고 또한 'KS V 0054–단정용어' 의 개정 방안을 제시 하고자 한다.

In this paper we analyse how school mathematics terminologies have been changed from the syllabus period to the 2007 curriculum. For this we survey the school mathematics terminologies which have been used since the syllabus period on the 2007 curriculum basis, analyse changes in expression of those, and look through to the characteristics of mathematics terminologies for each curriculum period.

조선해양 관련 산업에서는 아직 일본식 및 한자식 조선용어, 외래어가 자리 잡아 일상적으로 사용되고 있다. 대표적인 예로 고박(固縛, こばく), 취부(取付, とりつ), 반생(番線, ばんせん) 등이다. 용어의 정의는 국가 표준 및 관련 법령의 기본이며, 특히 국내 해양레저 관련 산업의 경쟁력 향상을 위하여 필수적이다. 이에 일부 혼용 중인 해양레저장비 관련 선체, 의장품, 범장 등과 관련하여 영문 명칭, 외래어 사용시 표기법, 권장 한국어 등으로 구분하여 표준화 방안을 제시하고자 한다.
