Results: Morita therapy and western medicine were used for the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder. Most of the studies reported that groups treated with Morita therapy as well as western medicine showed much positive results than those groups treated with western medicine alone. Conclusions: According to this study, Morita therapy for obsessive-compulsive disorder would be an effective and safe intervention. Further clinical studies on the use of Morita therapy in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder should be done in Korea in the near future.

  • Objectives: Oriental psychotherapy and western psychotherapy in Korea were investigated in order to develop a new oriental psychotherapeutic model for modern Korean. Methods: Oriental psychotherapy and Western psychotherapy were compared and investigated in some viewpoints such as cognition, behaviour, emotion and ultimate purposes for the therapies. Cultural differences are examined, too. Results: There are clear differences between two psychotherapies. It seems that cognition is more important than behaviour or emotion in western psychotherapy. On the other hand, emotion is more important than cognition or behaviour in oriental psychotherapy. Ultimate purposes for the therapies are also different because of cultural differences. Conclusions: New oriental psychotherapeutic model considering cultural differences and merits of two therapies is needed.

  • Schizophrenia is a frequent psychotic disorder. Recently many studies raised biochemical theory as a cause of schizophrenia. But in this case, we used psychosocial treatment and oriental medical treatment, without antipsychotic drugs for 4 months, obtained good results. Practicing psychosocial treatment, we were able to remove anxiety and fear of the patient. In addition positive symptoms, for example auditory hallucination and delusion, were improved. Schizophrenia conforms to JEONKWANG(癲狂) in oriental medicine. We concluded this case to JEONJUNG(癲證) due to QIULDAMHWA(氣鬱痰火). So we used herbal medication and acupuncture according to oriental medical theory and these efforts helped the care of disease.
