Quantitative forecasting methods based on spatial data and geographic information system have been used in predicting the landslide location. This study compared the simulated results of logistic, Bayesian, and maximum entropy models to understand the uncertainties of each model and identify the main factors that influence landslide. The study area is Boeun gun where 388 landslides occurred in the year of 1998. The verification results showed that the AUC of the three models was 0.84. However, the landslide susceptibility distribution of Maxent model was different from those of the other two models. With the same landslide occurrence data, the result of high susceptible area in Maxent model is smaller than Logistic or Bayesian. Maxent model, however, proved to be more efficient in predicting landslide than the other two models. In Maxent's simulations, the responsible factors for landslide susceptibility are timber age class, land cover, timber diameter, crown closure, and soil drainage. The results suggest that it is necessary to consider the possibility of overestimation when using Logistic or Bayesian model, and forest management around the study area can be an effective way to minimize landslide possibility.

This study introduces an analysis of the quantitative characteristics of topography and topographical changes based on precise 3D topography through 6 times surveys from December 2008 to January 2010 using Terrestrial LIDAR on the Malipo beach. The Malipo sand beach is mostly located between 0m to 1.5m MSL. The area of the beach above 2.25m, the Mean High Water, is very small. It have characteristics of topographical change of erosion and deposition along the entire coast line which more apparently appear in the northern beach than the southern part of the beach. Erosion prevails from spring to autumn, while during winter both erosion and deposition largely occur. Volumes from first and last survey were almost equal.

There are many traditional natural heritages, so-called Dongcheon-gugok, in the Sobaek mountainous region ranged from Sangju city to Mungyeong city. Because Yongyu-dong has the beautiful scenery, well conserved, and many related documents, making amusing storytelling is allowed. Therefore, this study is to construct the storytelling by putting together the geomorphological explanation of topographical landscape and travel writing or poetry and prose by ancient people. The main themes of storytelling are the sculpture of the letter, gutters and pot holes on the broad and flat rock, and the arguments of the forming processes of Yong-choo. I expect this storytelling to help understanding and symphasizing the traditional natural heritages.

Massive coastal sand dunes are distributed in Ui-island, Shinan-gun. The sand dunes in Ui-island is worth studying, in terms of preserving natural environment without anthropogenic impacts. In this study, we surveyed geomorphological processes of the sand dune based upon measuring of geometric properties, grain size analysis, and OSL(Optically Stimulated Luminescence) age dating. The sediments of the dune consist mainly of well sorted medium sand with about 250$\mu$m. Based on spatial distribution of sand dunes, we found that they are formed by northwest monsoon during winter, and sands are supplied from Seongchon area in northern UI-island. According to OSL age dating, the sand dunes were deposited from $0.07{\pm}0.01ka$ to $0.17{\pm}0.04ka$. This result shows that the transformation of the dune due to the sand movement by wind was active during the last 100-200 years. The aerial photograph indicates that the dimension of the largest sand dune has decreased since 1945. Further research is needed to get more detailed information on geomorphic changes of sand dunes in UI-island.

This study tried to reconstruct paleovegetation environments during the late Holocene with pollen analysis from archeological trenches at the right bank of Geumgang in Sejong-si. The lower hills was dominantly covered with pine trees, while alder trees and hygrophytes extended on the floodplain since 2,000yr BP. The pollen composition of Alnus dominance in the floodplain during the times is different from the general charateristics of Korean peninsula. Such a phenomenon is thought to be influenced by the fluvial process on the floodplain in the middle reaches of Geumgang around Sejong-si. Mihocheon and some tributaries join to Geumgang around Sejong-si, and the channel of Geumgang becomes narrow around the boundary between Sejong-si and Gongju-si. This narrow channel could attribute to the formation of extensive floodplain around Sejong-si. Moreover, human impacts such as agriculture appear continuously since 1,800yr BP.

This research was classified mountain areas with high ecological, environmental and resource value among the macro scaled terrain that can be checked at the space scale of less than 1:1,000,000 and analyzed the topographical characteristics. It has been confirmed that the mountains of the Korean peninsula belong to the groups IV, V, VI(classification by Kapos et al.(2000)) as a result of applying the quantitative standards for designation of mountain areas to the global mountain system. The area of mountains calculated using high resolution DEM is equivalent to 48% of the area of the Korean peninsula, and the result is quite different from the general idea of which 70% is the mountain area of the Korean peninsula. The mountain areas show the distribution of geomorphons, that is different from the plains and the hills and also, it shows the differences between the mountains of the groups IV~ VI classified according to the altitude. As a result of analyzing the relations among type pattern, slope, and relief, specific geomorphons are concentrated at $10^{\circ}$ and $20^{\circ}$ and it shows the possibility to classify the mountainous areas into two groups based on the result that the distribution of landform patterns are bimodal in the relation to the amount of relief.

The distribution and size of sandy beaches along eastern Korea has a close relationship with the presence of granite rocks. In general, elongated and wide beaches with abundant sands are likely to develop along the coasts where granitic basic rocks comprise the dominant geology or where a large amount of sands are supplied by streams from inland granitic rocks. Small sandy beaches, in contrast, appear in non-granitic rocks (i.e., under sedimentary and/or metamorphic geology). Hence, large beaches are observed continuously along the shore of Gangwon-do, of which coasts consist predominantly of granitic geology. Such continuity declines from Samcheok city to Pohang city. The rock of Gyeonbuk-do is commonly known as sedimentary, deposited between the late Triassic and the early Tertiary Periods. Because few sands are supplied from the upstream areas, sandy beaches unlikely develop along the coasts of the province, only showing a sporadic, discontinuous distribution under Bulguksa granite, granitic gneiss, and some volcanic rocks. Erosion was rarely observed in the beaches where granitic rocks are distributed, whereas merely five beaches seemed to have undergone some level of erosion in non-granitic regions. This is presumably because a larger amount of sands than that which had been eroded away was replenished in areas under granitic geology, while under non-granitic geology having a deficit in sands, no large sandy beaches had formed at first.

In this study, we surveyed weathering progressing aspect by major elements variation and rock hardness by using XRF analysis, schmidt hammer, and thin section analysis. This observation suggested that the weathering process is likely to develop differently according to microstructural characteristics. R-value on the inside wall are lower than those on the outside. Also, the shadier the environment was, the closer it was to inshore areas, the R-value appeared to be lower. The movement of the elements such as Ca, Na and K shows that feldspar is hydrolyzed and can form salt crystallization like a gypsum or halite when they combine with the elements such as S or Cl. It proved a high CaO, $Na_2O$ and $K_2O$ content on flaking inside wall and rock meal. The exfoliation was mainly observed along the shady backwall and ceiling of tafoni. This helped in predicting the growth of tafoni as well as the direction of its progress.

Frost shattering has traditionally been considered as one of the most effective process in rock weathering. Each slab specimens of five or six rhyolite, basalt and tuff was prepared and put in freeze-thaw cycles and repeated 300 times in the temperature of $-25^{\circ}C$ to $+30^{\circ}C$ and their weathering patterns and products were analyzed by surface observation, particle size, XRD and thin section. As the result, some changes were observed in weathering patterns and weathering products. Rock shattering was more active in waterlogging rather than atmospheric conditions, but there are many differences depending on the type of rock. Rhyolite is hardly weathered by 300 times freeze-thaw cycles and generates the least amount of weathering products. Weathering of Basalt is limited to the surface layer where water can be absorbed, and produces a few amount of platy-shape debris. Tuff are separated by blocky structure which the particles are aggregated along their edges rather than enlarged existing cracks/joins or generated new joints.

The map drawn on a scale of 1 to 50,000, modern Korea map drawn on a scale of 1 to 50,000 made by Japanese colonial era in 1910s, is the first topographical map using modern technical method. The map has been mainly used in human activities and geographic viewpoint, recently it is available on various field with recognizing high accuracy. It is especially expected that the map will provide us with lots of information on long-term change of topography in field of coastal area which is built on coastal structure. This study presents a method for analyzing before and after geographic change of coastal structure in independent drift sand system. The reference point to analyze long-term coastal geographic change was selected the map of 1910s.
