  • This study is about the co-relationship between the directional orientation of the houses and the geometric direction in the Korean traditional villages. The major mountain in the back of the village and the front mountain ranges give the most important influence for the direction of the houses. This paper, therefore, tries to identify how the houses of villages facing South-west direct the orientation. The village, where the natural environment face the South-west village, solves the problem by facing major direction rather than one all direction. All houses observe and respect the circumstance of geomantic surrounding to the extant that almost no houses revise its direction without any geomantic reference. This kind of research let us know the relationship between the natural direction, the direction of geomantic surrounding, and the direction of houses in traditional Korean villages.

  • In part 1, the image common to Jingu′s shrines can be represented as "strict" and "beautiful", regardless of their age. The image changed from gorgeous/orderly to modest/disorderly with times. In part 2, the image was considered on the characters of those architecture′s members and elements. The conclusion is as fellows; 1. The members that strongly influenced on the image of "strict" is a roof with it′s shape and color. 2. The decrease of lightness, yellowness and luster of members changed the image of architecture, from "gorgeous" to "modest". 3. Because of "Sabi" made from "modest", Jingu′s shrines look "beautiful".

  • This is designed to find out the relations between traditional dwelling and its ecological concepts and factors in the natural environment. This also reveals how to design the dwelling under the full consideration of eco-system and its application possibility. Now, I have a conclusion that Modern architecture application would be possible if we design buildings under full-consideration of ecological environmental elements, inheriting the characteristics of the typical architecture items through more detailed and further advanced studies in traditional architecture methods.
