An Expansion of Affective Image Access Points Based on Users' Response on Image (이용자 반응 기반 이미지 감정 접근점 확장에 관한 연구)

  • Given the context of rapid developing ubiquitous computing environment, it is imperative for users to search and use images based on affective meanings. However, it has been difficult to index affective meanings of image since emotions of image are substantially subjective and highly abstract. In addition, utilizing low level features of image for indexing affective meanings of image has been limited for high level concepts of image. To facilitate the access points of affective meanings of image, this study aims to utilize user-provided responses of images. For a data set, emotional words are collected and cleaned from twenty participants with a set of fifteen images, three images for each of basic emotions, love, sad, fear, anger, and happy. A total of 399 unique emotion words are revealed and 1,093 times appeared in this data set. Through co-word analysis and network analysis of emotional words from users' responses, this study demonstrates expanded word sets for five basic emotions. The expanded word sets are characterized with adjective expression and action/behavior expression.

Enhancing Red Tide Image Recognition using NMF and Image Revision (NMF와 이미지 보정을 이용한 적조 이미지 인식 향상)

  • Red tide is a temporary natural phenomenon involving harmful algal blooms (HABs) in company with a changing sea color from normal to red or reddish brown, and which has a bad influence on coast environments and sea ecosystems. The HABs have inflicted massive mortality on fin fish and shellfish, damaging the economies of fisheries for almost every year from 1990 in South Korea. There have been many studies on red tide due to increasing damage from red tide on fishing and aquaculture industry. However, internal study of automatic red tide image classification is not enough. Especially, extraction of matching center features for recognizing algae image object is difficult because over 200 species of algae in the world have a different size and features. Previously studies used a few type of red tide algae for image classification. In this paper, we proposed the red tide image recognition method using NMF and revison of rotation angle for enhancing of recognition of red tide algae image.

The affective components of facial beauty (아름다운 얼굴의 감성적 특징)

  • In this paper, we investigated the affective components of facial beauty. In study 1, we did factor analysis of affective evaluations of the faces, and about 65% of the variances are explained by only two factors. Two factors were named 'sharp' and 'soft', respectively. In study 2, the correlation between facial beauty and affective evaluations was analyzed, and the correlation between facial beauty and sharp factor was significant. In study 3, we made the new images by morphing and warping the faces: 'average', 'high-ranked', and 'exaggerated'. The participants evaluated the 'high-ranked' face more beautiful than the 'average' face, and the 'exaggerated' face more beautiful than the 'high-ranked' face. The rating of affective words on the faces showed that the 'average' face was related to 'soft' impression, the 'high-ranked' image to 'sharp' impression, and the 'exaggerated' face might have double impression. These results might support the directional hypothesis for the facial beauty.

Trait Factors of Smartphone Application Influencing the Formation of a Brand Image : Focusing on Department Store Applications (브랜드 이미지에 영향을 미치는 어플리케이션 특성 요인에 관한 분석 : 백화점 어플리케이션을 중심으로)

  • This paper aimed at smartphone applications of department store brands in order to examine the traits of applications for the brand image. The study carried out survey research with 114 smartphone users who experienced the application of a department store, assuming that the design, contents, ease of use, and community characteristics of the application would affect satisfaction and the brand image. This paper performed a confirmatory factor analysis, correlation analysis, and the test of a model using PLS. Results showed that the design and contents of the application affected the improvement of satisfaction and of a brand image, whereas ease of use did not affect satisfaction and brand image. Also, community was influential on satisfaction, whereas it was not influential on the improvement of a brand image. Satisfaction with the application showed a strong impact on the improvement of a brand image; thus, it was found necessary for upcoming brand applications to enhance satisfaction for building a positive brand image.

Analysis on Character Designs of Universities (대학의 캐릭터 디자인 분석)

  • With the beginning of the 21st century, the rapid change of the environment of education makes the universities eager to develop a new image of themselves (i.e. image marketing). Character, one of the image marketing items, plays an important role for improving the image of universities by connecting the inner members more firmly, preserving the tradition of the university and being used as an advertising instrument. Considering these important roles, universities are focusing on designing character in order to express their identity and image efficiently. In this study, I surveyed the characters of universities and examined that these characters are reflecting the image of their universities, working on unity and harmony of the members and establishing the identity of each university properly. At the same time, I analyzed the relation between characters and symbols of universities. I expect that familiar and identified characters can be an essential element in improving the image of universities by giving visual advertising effects and informing the image of universities distinctively.

A new image rejection receiver architecture using simultaneously high-side and low-side injected LO signals (하이사이드와 로우사이드 LO 신호를 동시에 적용하는 새로운 이미지 제거 수신기 구조)

  • In this paper, we propose a new image rejection receiver architecture using simultaneously the high-side and low-side injected LO signals. The proposed architecture has a lower noise figure (NF) performance and a higher linearity characteristic than the previous receiver architecture using a single LO signal. Also, the proposed receiver shows a higher IRR performance about 6dB than that of the previous Weaver image rejection architecture even though the same gain and phase errors between I-path and Q-path exist. To verify these characteristics, we derive an IRR formular of the proposed architecture as a function of mismatch parameters. And we demonstrate its formular's usefulness through the system simulation. Therefore, the proposed architecture will be widely used to implement the image rejection receiver due to its higher IRR performance.

Wine Label Recognition System using Image Similarity (이미지 유사도를 이용한 와인라벨 인식 시스템)

  • Recently the research on the system using images taken from camera phones as input is actively conducted. This paper proposed a system that shows wine pictures which are similar to the input wine label in order. For the calculation of the similarity of images, the representative color of each cell of the image, the recognized text color, background color and distribution of feature points are used as the features. In order to calculate the difference of the colors, RGB is converted into CIE-Lab and the feature points are extracted by using Harris Corner Detection Algorithm. The weights of representative color of each cell of image, text color and background color are applied. The image similarity is calculated by normalizing the difference of color similarity and distribution of feature points. After calculating the similarity between the input image and the images in the database, the images in Database are shown in the descent order of the similarity so that the effort of users to search for similar wine labels again from the searched result is reduced.

A Color Image Watermarking Technique by Embedding a Fresnel-Transformed Pattern (Fresnel 변환 패턴의 삽입에 의한 컬러 이미지 워터마킹 기법)

  • Digital watermarking is a technique embedding hidden information into multimedia data imperceptibly such as images and sounds. Generally an original image is transformed and coded watermark data is embedded in frequency domain watermarking models. In this paper, We propose a new color image watermarking technique using Fresnel transform. A watermark image is Fresnel - transformed and the intensity of transformed pattern is embedded into color image. In our watermarking model, an original image is converted from RGB components into YCrCb components and then the values of real number and imaginary number of a Fresnel-transformed pattern of a watermark image are embedded into Y component. The watermarking experiments were conducted to show the validity of the proposed method using PSNR value, and the results show that our method has the robustness against lossy compression like JPEG.

A Raster Image Scaling Method focused on Calligraphy (캘리그라피에 특화된 래스터 이미지 확대 방법)

  • Recently, calligraphy has become popular because people focused on emotion. The strokes, dots, swoops, cracks and shading are the calligraphy factors for expressing various emotions such as joy, anger, sorrow, and delight. However, the emotion which is expressed by cracks and shading can be destroyed in the digital work when the calligraphy is used for a variety sizes of prints. Professionals work with high-resolution images which are obtained through the scanner, however normal users should work with low-resolution images taken with the smart phone for calligraphy image editing. We propose a raster image scaling method focused on calligraphy that maintains the emotion with cracks and shading, when normal users use the low-resolution calligraphy images in the digital work. The method recolors aliasing boundary of enlarged rasterized image. When recolored by our method, our method decreases aliasing by using the image gradient method, vivify calligraphy images, and maintains the emotion in cracks and shading by using the alpha value.

Design and Implementation of Multimedia Sensor Networks with Image Sensor (이미지 센서를 이용한 멀티미디어 센서 네트워크의 설계 및 구현)

  • Advances in wireless communication and hardware technology have made it possible to manufacture high-performance tiny sensor nodes. More recently, the availability of inexpensive CMOS cameras that are able to capture multimedia data from the environment has fostered the development of Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks (WMSNs). WMSN with the CMOS imaging sensor which is cheaper and consumes lower power than the CCD will not only enhance existing sensor network but also enable several new application such as multimedia surveillance sensor network, multimedia environment monitoring. This paper presents the design of a multimedia sensor network with the image sensor mote developed by us using the CMOS. Given new multimeida sensor network, the new image collecting protocol was tested and analyzed.
