  • Korean Academy of Medical Sciences began developing Korean Medical Citaton Index(KoMCI) database in 2002, and has announced the impact factors of Korean medical journals published since 2000. In July 2005, Korea Research Foundation also announced the KCI impact factor of journals covering all subject areas for the 2003 and 2004. We compared the impact factor(IF), impact factor excluding self-citation(ZIF), and self-citation impact factor(SIF) of KoMCI 2004 and KCI 2004 in order to disclose why there is such a great difference in the values of impact factors between two databases. Out of 72 medical journals in both database, 59 journals were compared after excluding the missing data in KCI. Mean IF of KoMCI 2004 was 0.2 and that of KCI 2004 was 0.03(p=0.0000). Mean ZIF of KoMCI was 0.06 and that of KCI was 0.01(p=0.000). Mean SIF of KoMCI was 0.139 and that of KCI was 0.02(p=0.0000). We presumed that the major difference in the impact factor values was originated from the fact that KCI does not control the authority of journal names cited in the references. We strongly recommend that it is necessary to control the authority especially if Korea Research Foundation wants to ensure the validity and reliability of KCI data in the evaluation of korean journals.

  • The purpose of this study was twofold: 1) to analyze the impact factor of clothing and textile-related journals by utilizing the average number of cross-citation that evaluates the relative importance of an academic journal and 2) to provide a list of journals with higher impact factor by analyzing closeness and betweenness among individual journals through graph networks. To fulfill this, a total of 10 clothing and textile-related journals, which are accredited by National Research Foundation of Korea, were analyzed. For analysis of the average number of cross-citation, the targeted research papers were limited to those published between 2008 and 2011 and they were derived from the Korea Citation Index. The software used for network analysis was R ver. 2.15. The results of the study were as follow: First, 'The Korean Society of Knit Design' was indicated as the highest rate of self-citation, followed by 'Journal of the Korean Fashion & Costume Design Association.' Secondly, the average impact power of clothing & textile-related journals was relatively lower (0.681) compared to that (1.00) of 23 journals under the human ecology discipline. 'Korean Journal of Human Ecology' was found to have impact factor of 1.24, which was higher than the average impact factor of human ecology-related journals. Lastly, together with 'Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles.'

  • When discussing a company's technology management, manufacturing companies' innovation strategy is vital because it is connected to each company's competitive advantage in various ways, such as technology acquisition, R&D, and product innovation. The research on manufacturing companies' innovation strategies has been studied in various ways, such as performance and resources for innovation; however, very little research has been done to synthesize existing research outcomes. In this study, we conduct a systematic literature review of 51 articles related to manufacturing companies' innovation strategies. By doing so, we synthesized the results of extant studies based on three perspectives: the research target, the research focus, and the types of innovation strategies. In addition, I derived the unique properties of the research on manufacturing companies' innovation strategies. The analysis indicated that Korea's research on manufacturing companies' innovation strategies had been unequally distributed. Based on this, we suggested research agendas for future research on manufacturing companies' innovation strategies.

  • Research on elderly suicide has increased since 2000. It indicates that elderly suicide is receiving a great attention as a part of elderly problems, and policy efforts are needed. However, most of existing research on elderly suicide focused on factors of elderly suicide. Therefore discussion about suicidal prevention measures is staying on general and suggestive level. As a result, this study is trying to seek effective prevention strategies of elderly suicide through systematic analysis of suicidal factors and sporadic policy proposals presented in existing research. To achieve this, the relevant research papers among academic journals registered with Korea Research Foundation are analyzed. According to the results, while the ordinary elderly tended to require macro level of intervention, the potential-risky elderly were inclined to need all of micro and moderate level of prevention efforts. Above all, secondary prevention must be more emphasized in moderate level. In the future direction of research, based on prevention strategies as stated above, it is recommended to entail discussion of what kind of a specific program and policy should be invented and how it should be operated.

  • Multicultural families have literally started to settle in Korea since the late 1980s, yet it was not until the middle of 2000 that multicultural education was actually arisen with its full-scale discussions. Domestic studies on multicultural education have now remarkably been conducted in various aspects and points of views, but with no certain level of collective and comprehensive analysis yet. To seek Korean way of finding out appropriate solutions to its multicultural society, a contemporary major trend in the world, it is necessary to keep developing the theory and practice in Korean multicultural education with constructive criticism over the development. In this thesis, the research trends and characteristics of Korea multicultural education are analyzed according to the three categories: the times of the study, the subjects of the study, and the themes of the study. The analysis of the study themes, in particular, is done based on the four core areas presented by Bennett: equity pedagogy, curriculum reform, multicultural competence, and societal equity. Furthermore, the analysis includes the five additional Korean sub-categories, which are also acquired in the process of our analysis of the thesis: multiculturalism, global multicultural education, counselling research, measurement development, and citizenship education, added to Bennett's three sub-ones of each area. Overall, based on the analysis data, this study investigates further improvements and subsequent research themes in the following researches on Korean multicultural education.

  • This study aims to examine the trends in research design and methods used in research on K-12 mathematics curriculum. By analyzing 124 peer-reviewed research articles published between 2000 and 2010, we concluded that more rigorous and various research design and methods should be conducted to improve educational research on curriculum. Although increasing scholarly attention has recently been given to systematic empirical studies about this topic, a large proportion of the studies examined in this study appeared to lack either a coherent conceptual framework or a systematic analytic tool or method. More effort needs to be made on improving the rigor of research in terms of research design and methods.
