For each strand of wirerope sling, the international standards, ISO-8794, EN-13414 specify that the splice shall have five series of load carrying tucks. At least three of the load carrying tucks shall be made with the whole strand. And, the breaking force of the splice shall not be less than 70% or 80% of that of rope. But, There are no prescriptions for splicing types against different efficiency of each splicing type being used many workplace. In this study, analysis the work limit load efficiency according to variation of number of tucks and splicing types by experimental method As a result, the number of tucks 3+2 had the highest breaking efficiency.

The failure mode of concrete reinforced with FRP is defined as the concrete crushing and the fiber rupture and the definition of limit state is a slightly different according to the design methods. It is relatively difficult to predict of FRP reinforced concrete because the mechanical properties of fibers are quite depending on its of fibers. The design code by ACI440 committee, which has been developed mainly on GFRP having low modulus of elasticity, is widely used, but the applicability on other FRPs of this code has not been sufficiently verified. In addition, the ultimate and serviceability limit state based on the ACI440 are comparatively difficult to predict the behavior of member with the 0.8~1.2 𝜌b because crushing and rupturing failure can be occurred simultaneously is in this region of reinforcement ratio, and predicted deflection is too sensitive according to the loading condition. Therefore, in this study, reliability and convenience of the prediction of structural performance by design methods such as ACI440 and MC90 concept, respectively, were examined through the experimental results and literature review of the beam and slab with the reinforcement ratio of 0.8 ~ 1.4. As a result of the analysis, it can be applied to the FRP reinforced structure in the case of the simple moment-curvature formula (LIM-MC) of Model Code, and the limit state design method based on the EC2 is more reliable than the ultimate strength design method.
The procedure of the elastic response spectrum method which is used in the codes of many countries involves the computation of a static horizontal substitute loading resulting from the earthquake. The substitute loading is divided by a behavioral factor in order to take energy dissipation due to the real nonlinear structural behavior and damping effects ect. into account. The behavioral factors widely used in many countries are based not on the exact calculation but only on the empirical data. In order to determine the behavioral factors analytically, it is necessary to define the limit state of structures as a first step. In this work, the methods of the determination of limit state for the steel structures are discussed in the geometric, serviceabile and material apsects, and the behavioral factors for the three types of structures are calculated.

This study numerically investigated a structural behavior subjected to consecutive explosions. To this end, a small scale one-way reinforced slab (RC) with fixed-fixed boundary condition was considered as the target structure, and a commercial software, LS-DYNA, was utilized for finite element (FE) analysis. Prior to performing FE analysis, preliminary tests were carried out to verification of a computational model for the one-way RC slab. In the numerical simulation, identical blast loads were consecutively applied to the structure, and cumulative damage assessment were carried out based on its maximum dynamic displacements. As a result of the numerical simulation, it was found that maximum displacements considering permanent deformation due to a prior explosion were almost linearly increased in every explosion until the hazardous damage threshold.
A modified method for the analysis of short fatigue crack growth has been presented, and calculations based upon the modified method are compared with experimental results for S45C carbon steel. It is also shown that the modified method is in good agreement with experimental data. The proposed equation for the fatigue crack growth rates includes a material constant which relates the threshold level to the endurance limit, a correction for elastic-plastic behaviour and a means for dealing with the effects of crack closure. In this study one of the modifications is to substitute the Forman' s elastic expression of the stress intensity factor range into the geometrical factor The other is a consideration of the bending effect which is developed from the moment caused by the eccentric cross sectional geometry as the crack grows. Thus, this method is useful for residual life prediction of the mechanical structures as well as the welding structures.

It is commonly requested that the steam generator tubes wall-thinned in excess of 40% should be plugged. However, the plugging criterion is known to be too conservative for some locations and types of defects and its application is limited to a single crack in spite of the fact that the occurrence of multiple through-wall cracks is more common in general. The objective of this research is to propose the optimum failure prediction models for two adjacent through-wall cracks in steam generator tubes. The conservatism of the present plugging criteria was reviewed using the existing failure prediction models for a single crack, and six new failure prediction models for multiple through-wall cracks have been introduced. Then, in order to determine the optimum ones among these new local or global failure prediction models, a series of plastic collapse tests and corresponding finite element analyses for two adjacent through-wall cracks in thin plate were carried out. Thereby, the reaction force model, plastic zone contact model and COD (Crack-Opening Displacement) base model were selected as the optimum ones for assessment of steam generator tubes with multiple through-wall cracks. The selected optimum failure prediction models, finally, were used to estimate the coalescence pressure of two adjacent through-wall cracks in steam generator tubes.

In this study, the structural analysis was conducted to the comparison of reaction force and contact pressure on the design truck load (DB-24 and KL-510) of slab bridge supported by MSEW abutment. As a result of the structural analysis, the reaction force acting on the abutment at the continuous bridge was reduced rather than the simple span bridge. The reaction force due to the dead load was estimated to be about twice as large as that of the live load, and the influence of the live load on the total reaction force was relatively small. The contact pressure of the MSEW abutment was estimated to be the largest in the simple span bridge. The influence of contact pressure on the type of live load was relatively small. Therefore, it is considered to be more advantageous to apply the MSEW abutment to the continuous bridge than to the simple span bridge because the contact pressure acting on the abutment on the continuous bridge is estimated to be small. Since the reaction force and the load sharing ratio acting on the MSEW abutment depending on various conditions, it is necessary to examine the contact pressure in various types of bridges and specifications.

In order to consider statistical properties of probability variables used in the structural analysis the conventional approach using the safety factor based on past experience usually estimated the safety of a structure Also the real structures could only be analyzed with the error in estimation of loads material characters and the dimensions of the members. But the errors should be considered systematically in the structural analysis Safety of structure could not precisely be appraised by the traditional structural design concept Recently new aproach based on the probability concept has been applied to the assessment of structural safety using the reliability concept Thus the computer program by the Probabilitstic FEM is developed by incorporating the probabilistic concept into the conventional FEM method. This paper estimated for the reliability of a plane stress structure by Advanced First-Order Second Moment method using von Mises, Tresca and Mohr-Coulomb failure criterions. Verification of the reliability index and failure probability of attained by the Monte Carlo Simulation method with the von Mises criterion were same as PFEM, but the Monte Carlo Simulation were very time-consuming. The variance of member thickness and load could influence the reliability and failure probability most sensitively among the design variables from the results of the parameter analysis. The proper failure criterion according to characteristic of materials must be used for safe design.
Applying the limit state design method to geotechnical structures, accuracy and reliability of its design are mainly affected by parameters for geotechnical site characteristics, such as unit weight, Poisson's ratio, deformation modulus, cohesion and frictional angle. When the structures are located in weathered ground, especially, cohesion and frictional angle of ground are closely related with decision of parameters for structures' load and ground's resistance. Therefore, the accurate determination of these parameters, which are commonly obtained from field measurement, such as borehole shear test, are essential for optimum design of geotechnical structures. The 38 case studies, in this study, have been analyzed for understanding the importance of these parameters in designing the ground structures. From these results, importance of field measurement was also ascertained. With these evaluations, an apparatus for determining the strength characteristics, which are fundamental in limit state design (LSD) method, have been newly developed. This apparatus has an improved function as following the ASTM suggestion. Through the field application of this apparatus, the strong point of minimizing the possibility of error occurrence during the measurement has been verified and authors summarized that the essential parameters for LSD can be qualitatively obtained by this apparatus for determination of strength characteristics of weathered ground.

Cracks in RC members occurred as a result of material and structural factors. The crack width and a crack location are very difficult to examine. A direct crack control method and indirect crack control method to control a crack are presented in the KHBDC (LSD) and KSCDC (2012). In the KSCDC text, cracks are controlled by steel spacing indirectly under a service load. On the other hand, in the KSCDC appendix, cracks are controlled by a crack width directly under a sustained load. In particular, the loading state considered is different. On the other hand, cracks are controlled under a combination of service load and an effective elastic modulus is used in KHBDC. Therefore, in this study, an effective elastic modulus that can reflect the ratio of the sustained load and live load was applied, and a maximum steel spacing was calculated through a design crack width. A variable interpretation was carried out, and a rational crack control method was assessed. As a result, a steel spacing through the design crack width in the KSCDC was smaller than that from the design crack width in the KHBDC, which leads to a conservative design. In addition, the maximum steel spacing suggested in this study has a consistency eliminating the difference between direct crack control and indirect crack control.
