  • Mineralogy, beneficiation, and processes of titanium ores are reviewed from petrographic viewpoints. The most important titanium minerals are ilmenite ($FeTiO_3$) and rutile ($TiO_2$). Ilmenite will play major role :for raw material, because rutile are rapidly diminishing. Thus, there is a need to develope a successful process for producing high grade Ti02 from ilmenite. Commercial, as well as R and D processes to treat more abundant ilmenite ores fall in three general classess: 1. Iron in ilmenite is partially or completely reduced and separated either physically or chemically. 2. Iron is reduced to ferrous state and chemically leached away from the titanium. 3. Ore is treated to make chlorides either selectively or with subsequent separation and purification of $TiC_4$. Routes and efficiencies of these process technologies are primarily influenced by the particular ore deposit to be mined and secondly by environmental considerations. One deposit parameters which influence ilmenite process technologies are: 1. Complexity of microtextures of ilmenite intergrown with Fe-oxide minerals. 2. Composition of concentrates; ilmenites contain minor amounts of substituted Mg, Mn, and V. These elements plus iron and gangue minerals can cause difficulties to complete reactions, substantial acid consumption, difficulties of removing waste solids, and waste disposal problems. Major contributions to be made by petrologists for process optimization are: characterization and interpretation of compositional and physical changes of raw materials and solids derived from process streams. These informations can play significant role in selecting and improving process steps for titania production.

  • The goal of this thesis was to examine the effects of applying meta-problems to elementary school mathematics class In their achievements, beliefs and attitudes. To achieve this goal the following research questions were asked. a. What effects does the class applied with meta-problem have on students' mathematical achievements? b. What effects does the class applied with meta-problem have on students' mathematical beliefs and attitudes? To answer questions, an experimental study was designed and conducted. The subjects were 6th-grade students at S Elementary School located in Dobong-Gu, Seoul where the researcher teaches. Among them, the class that the researcher teach was chosen as the experimental group. During the experimental study, a teaching-learning with meta-problems was applied to the experimental group and a teaching-learning with general problems was applied to the comparative group. To examine changes in the mathematical achievements of the experimental group and the comparative group, a post-test of mathematical achievements was conducted and the results were t-tested. As well, to find answers to the second research question, a pre-test and a post-test of mathematical beliefs and attitudes were conducted on the experimental group and the results were t-tested. The results of this study were as follows First, the experimental group which was taught applying meta-problems got higher mathematical achievement than the comparative group. Second, the class with meta-problems did not bring significant changes in students' mathematical beliefs and attitudes. Synthesizing the study results above, a teaching-learning with meta-problems is a teaching-learning method that can accommodate problem solving naturally in school mathematics and give a positive effect on students' mathematical achievements.

  • Pain has at least two dimensions such as somatosensory qualities and affect and patients are frequently asked to score the intensity of their pain on a numerical pain rating scale. However, the use of a undimensional scale is questionable in view of the belief, overwhelmingly supported by clinical experience as well as by empirical evidence from multidimensional scaling and other sources, that pain has multidimensions such as sensory-discrimitive, motivational-affective and cognitive-evaluative The study of pain has recently received much attention, especially in understanding its neurophysiology by using new brain imaging techniques, such as positron emission tomography(PET) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), both of which allow us to visualize brain function in vivo. Also the new brainimaging devices allow us to evaluate the patients pain status and plan To treat patients objectively. Base4 on our findings we presented what are the new brain imaging devices and the results of study by using brain imaging devices.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze how the changes of evaluation standards have affected Korean medical researchers' academic performance by comparing the publication status of medical articles both domestically and abroad. A total of 314,559 domestic articles in KMbase and 53,423 articles stored in MEDLINE published abroad by Korean researchers were analyzed. All of the data were compared per year according to the research field and indexed journals by numbers and proportions of articles published domestically and abroad. The analysis showed that the number of total articles and the proportion of articles published abroad increased continuously. In the early 2000s, articles published in Korea decreased, otherwise articles published abroad increased sharply. SCI articles showed a steady increase before 2000, and continued to increase over the next few years. KCI articles also showed a rapid increase in the early 2000s while other articles were decreasing. Publication trends shown in this study were similar despite quantitative and timely differences by research area. Performance evaluations focusing on SCI articles affected on quantitative decrease in the number of total articles published domestically. Quantitative growth itself is not an absolute indicator for academic achievement. Therefore, to complement any evaluation of academic achievement, qualitative analysis needs to be done as well.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the publication, composition, method of composition, and acceptance patterns of JujaDaejeon anthologies edited by Joseon scholars in the Joseon dynasty. When a large amount of JujaDaejeon was published in the 16th century, anthologies of JujajaDaejeon was compiled, published and learned as a way to understand it. A total of 13 kinds of JujajaDaejeon anthologies were published, including six kinds in the early Joseon period and seven kinds in the late Joseon period. And the composition of main anthologies showed a trend that was supplemented by Jeong Gyeong-se's Jumunjakhae from Lee Hwang's Jujaseojeolyo, and aggregated into Song Si-yeol's Jeoljaktongpyeon(boyu). JujaDaejeon consists of total 3,645 works except for poems. Among them, 1,734 works were selected by 13 anthologies. The theme of a work with a high cumulative number of selections is the virtue and attitude of the king, policy proposals, the appointment of talent, the duty of subjects, criteria for evaluating historical figures, opposition to harmony with Jin and territorial restoration, and academic discussions. This study is expected to be meaningful in the field of the research on the acceptance of the foreign books and acceptance of the Zhu Xi's works in the Joseon dynasty.

  • The ${\beta}$-D-fructofuranosidase (EC 3.2.1.26) is an important enzyme from a historical point of view, discovered by French biologist Berthelot in 1860 and was first used to study enzymology. ${\beta}$-D-fructosfuranosidase catalyzes the hydrolysis of sucrose into D-glucose and D-fructose. Four biochemical subgroups of ${\beta}$-D-fructofuranosidase have been investigated in plants. There are vacuolar (soluble acid), cytoplasmic (soluble alkaline), membrane-bound (insoluble alkaline), and cell wall-bound (insoluble acid) ${\beta}$-D-fructofuranosidase by purification. Their biochemical characteristics are distinct. It suggested that those enzymes might be different gene products. The contribution of each of these enzymes to sucrose management in the plant is likely to be correlated with their localization. Common localization in developing cells in tissues from a range of developmental stages and plant parts suggests that all of the isoforms may be closely involved in nutrient transport. The ${\beta}$-D-fructofuranosidases were most commonly found associated with maturing tissues in developing fruits, leaves, and roots. The ${\beta}$-D-fructofuranosidase activity varies in the relationship between growth and expansion through cell division, development of storage organs and tissues, and the relationship of plant defense responses. It is necessary to summarize more researches in order to know the definite physiological function.

  • The reason why creativity becomes the important subject in 21th century is that it does an important role which solves many problems surrounding our whole life in this internationalization, globalization, knowledge-information age. But scholars who formerly researched the creativity-field explain the necessity of creativity with the internal and fundamental reasons. That is, scholars say that creative activities produce originative products and originality itself. And it is the root of which will be able to discover meaning of life and it -creativity - is successive activities that is demanded when individual life want to obtain important value by expressing one's inner world to the outside using creative resource. Recently, with the trends of present age and the educational needs, research about creativity is actively carried out and it draws out the results that creativity can be developed and enhanced through education and training. So, now many researches have focused on how to develop the creativity. Investigating those researches, we found that the recent issues of researches on creativity were changing and now they focused on creative instruction methods and behavioral factors. Especially, they were selected as the subject related to the creative education - creative instructional method and program, atmosphere in classroom, and factors of teacher. It means that the past researches which were a little bit conceptive have been changing to material ones which will be able to enhance creativity and its effect. So, in this research, we have developed the program for CPS(Creativity Problem Solving) and verified its effect.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate older people's planning for estate distribution by examining the factors associated with their will-holding status. This study used data from the 1994 Assets and Health Dynamics among the Oldest Old (AHEAD) Survey, Wave One. The objectives of this study were (a) to establish profiles of older people who have a written will and to compare their financial portfolios across will-holding status; (b) to identify factors that influence the decision to make a will, and (c) to draw implications for family economists, financial educators, planners, and policy makers. The results suggested that a household's financial resources (i.e., liquid and illiquid assets, housing equity, and household income) positively influence the probability of having a will. Older people who resided in a community property state and who were in poor health were less likely to be will-holders than their counterparts, holding financial resources and other variables constant. Demographic characteristics such as age, education, and race, and behavioral characteristic also were significant determinants of the likelihood of having a will. Volunteer participation and charitable contribution, which are proxies for altruism, increased the likelihood of having a will. The probability of having a will also was higher among those who had life insurance and had gwen inter-vivos gifts of more than $\$5,000$ to their children or grandchildren in the past 10 years. On the other hand, the likelihood of having a will declined with increasing number of biological children. From the findings, implications for financial planners and educators were suggested along with directions for future research.

  • After debris flow caused damage during recent years, many scholars and engineers have thrown their effort into analyzing risk from debris flow in Korea. But it is hard to predict damage by debris flow taken place in wide area. Recently, SINMAP program is widely well used to estimate the amount of debris flow and its' range. In order to make frequent use of it, the most important thing is selection of accurate input parameters. In-situ experiments, which are avaliable in the mountain, is to be suggested to get dependable input parameters for SINMAP. Those are permeability, cohesion, density, friction angle and thickness in SINMAP. To get those, test pit, block sampling, in-situ density test, auger boring, permeability test on ground surface, borehole shear test and dynamic cone test and so forth were selected. In addition, the reliability of the results will be increased through comparing with those by laboratory tests. Hence, the experiments are hard to enter the sites without temporary road and, if possible, licensing and many times are needed, too. Small size experiments are indeed necessary to get accurate parameters.
