  • Pizza's synthetic model, a modified Wiener filter method, was tested to establish the procedure of desirable interpretive wavelet extraction and its application to the marine seismic exploration using several approaches with a real offshore seismic data of the southeast Asia. Noise spectrum acquisition is difficult and any assumptions for it do not produce interpretive wavelets as good as synthetic model result by Piazza (1979). however the resolution could be improved with spiking deconvoultion and following zero phase bandpass filter, and the testing procedure and evaluatttion of results can hopefully contribute in future study and practical evaluation of Piazza's method.

  • This paper presents results from a series of model tests on laterally loaded single piles with both free-head and free-tip conditions. Model tests, using a centrifuge apparatus (middie size, Mark II in 7.1.7.) were carried out in sand based on the variation of different gravity acceleration and flexural stiffness of the pile and relative density of the soil. The aims of this study are to estimate the effect of gravity acceleratioil, flexordis stiffness, and relative density on the behavior of the pile embedded in Toyoura sand and to evaluate the applicability of a family of the p-y curves which was presented by several reseachers(Mur chison & O'Neill, neese et n., scott, Det worske veritas, nondner). The Program is deviloped by using p-y curves, and it can be used for the calculation of the displacement distri bution, bending moment distribution, and soil reaction distribution. By comparing meas ured responses with predicted one it is shown that the results of the p-y curve equation presented by Murchison & O'Neill and Kondner agreed with the general trend observed by the centrifuge tests much better than the numerical solutions predicted by the other sets of p -y curves.

  • The annual nariation of surface heat exchange at ten selected station in the Korean coastal seas was studied using data of monthly mean surface temperature and meteorological parameters averaged for many years. Through heat exchange between the sea and the atmosphere, the surfaces in the Korean coastal seas are warmed by accepting heat from the atmosphere during march to September in the west coast sea, during Aprill to August in the south coast sea which includes the Ulleung-do coast sea and during April to September in the east coast sea. The periods which are cooled by losing heat to the atmosphere correspond to residual months excepting the above warming periods. Maximum total heat exchange during the warming period at each station shows the distribution of 320-720cal/ $\textrm{cm}^2$ day in June to July and during the cooling period shows the distribution of -260∼-940 cal/$\textrm{cm}^2$ day in November to January. The annual average total heat exchange shows warming of 100-240 Cal/$\textrm{cm}^2$ day in the west coast sea, cooling of -90∼-150 Cal/$\textrm{cm}^2$ day in the south coast sea and the Ulleung-do coast sea, and slight warming or cooling of -15∼65 Cal/$\textrm{cm}^2$ day in the east coast sea. Maxima or minima of the surface temperature in the Korean coastal seas appear in the month that the warming or cooling period is ended. The evaporation rate is highest during October to next January with the distribution of 5∼12mm/day.

  • This study was undertaken to explore the relationship between the personality characteristic (the self-esteem) and tao clothing behaviors according to the sex and the five environmental variables. This study was designed with the hypothetic model regarding the age and the five environmental variables as Independent Variable, the self-esteem as Intervening Variable, the eight clothing behaviors as Dependent Variable. For the testing hypothesis, the questionnaries were adminstered to 335 high school boys and 308 high school girls in Pusan. The data was analyzed statistically at the B.N.U. Computer Center using to the Path Analysis (by Multiple Regression Analysis Method). The results were as follows : 1. There was significant difference in the self-esteem according to the sex. Boys had higher scores than girls. 2. There was no significant relationship between the self-esteem and all the environmental variables of this study. 3. There were significant differences in the clothing behavior subscales according to the sex. Girls had higher scores than boys in every clothing behavior subscales. 4. There were partial relationship between the clothing behavior subscales and the environmental variables. 5. There was a highly significant relationship between the self-esteem and the clothing behavior subscales except Comfort and Modesty. A negative significant aubscale were Interest, Psychological Dependence, Social Approval and Special Attention. 6. There were positively significant relationship among the clothing behavior subscales except Modesty-Aesthetics, Modesty-Interest, Modesty-Psychological Dependence and Modesty-special Attention.

  • Since 1945, geography textbooks of South Korea and North Korea have been developed differently. Taking both geography textbooks of South Korea(printed in 1996 and 1997) and them of North Korea(printed in 1995), this study compares and analyse geography textbooks of South and North Korea systematically, then to show their likeness and difference. Results of this study are as follows: First, Most of contents in South Korean textbooks consist of explations and many tables, graphs and photographs leading to inquiry activities, whereas those in North Korean textbooks consist of mostly sentences that explain topics, diagrams and sketches. Second, Geographical education in South Korea puts strong emphasis on human geography and regional geography, whereas that in North Korea does strong emphasis on physical geography, economic geography and education of cartography. Third, The geographical words of South Korean textbooks contain words written in Chinese character and words of English origin, whereas Those of North Korean textbooks do many pure Korean words.

  • The objectives of this study are to develop more practical and efficient model concerned with airport charge, especially with aircraft landing charge. This study utilizes average pricing and marginal pricing theory as well as cost accounting theory. The average pricing method is useful to make total costs recovery possible in uncongested situation where the marginal costs are too low to recover the total costs of service. The utilization of cost accounting theory with marginal cost pricing theory would improve the practical applicability of the model. In addition, it is necessary to apply cost accounting information in order to estimate more exact cost for the service of landing and take-off of each aircraft type.

  • The purpose of this study is to introduce the current status of geography education research in South Korea. This article consists of mainly two parts: 1) source of knowledge and 2) content of knowledge in geography education research. The main academic journals are introduced as the sources of knowledge. The research trends in these journals are discussed as the content of knowledge. We classified geography education research into three types based on the framework suggested by Bednarz (2000): 1) nature of geographic knowledge, learning, and curriculum, 2) teacher education in geography, and 3) strategies in the geography classroom. Relevant research regarding each category is introduced. We hope this study serves as an access point where geography educators in South Korea and other countries facilitate interactions with each other.

  • The development of Korean urban geography can be divided into several stages including initial stage, transition stage, and maturation stage. If this trend persists, it can be expected that it would turn into the matured stage. This paper intended to recall the research trends from 1960 to 2012, focusing on 686 papers and 177 books published during the last 62 years, and investigated by research areas, study regions, methodologies, and journals in relation to urban geography. Although increasing number of urban geographers has made mutual relationship more complex and diverse, no signs of school formation have yet been seen in Korean urban geography. Large portions of papers have concerned about Seoul Metropolitan Region for their study regions. There have been diversified trends of oversea studies away from the US cities to other cities in various countries. Also, quantitative studies have been increasing their weight since the 2000s. Moreover, articles on the Journal of the Korean Urban Geographical Society have been far surpassed in its number.

  • Lee Yeung-Hi is one of the most influential journalist in the modern history of Korea. Nevertheless, the judgement about him has been parallelized by opposite sides. He is called 'the Master of ideology', while the other calls him 'the culprit of theorization'. This thesis deduced the contemporary meaning of person Lee Yeung-Hi in order to promote communication for both sides. I compared their logical arguments and pointed out the error they missed. Also, I clarified that the criticism and anticriticism for Lee Young-Hi in the fields of both journalism and academia have fallacies, such as the fallacy of straw man, and the fallacy of question-begging. I criticized their arguments through the view of 'struggling to seek truth', which is the core value of Lee Yeung-Hi's thought. The necessity of communication between advocators and it's critics is due to the condition of Korean Journalism. Korean Journalism does not have much space to accept Lee Young-Hi in only one side. Paradoxically, the contemporary meaning of the truth that Journalist Lee Young-Hi had sought is profound and deep because of the condition where Korean Journalism is being dominated by political parallelism.

  • The uranium deposits of Bolivia are mainly found in the Altiplano and the Cordillera Oriental. In the Altiplano, many radioactive anomalies are detected in the Tertiary red beds and volcanic rocks. In the Cordillera Oriental, important anomalies are detected in the sedimentary rocks of Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Tertiary ages as well as in hydrothermal veins and syenitic rocks of Tertiary age. Classification of uranium deposits is attempted and their potentials are discussed. Widespread occurrence of various genetic types of uranium deposits in Bolivia draws attention of geologists on scientific and economic viewpoints. Mineralogical and genetic studies of important uranium deposits of Bolivia will be published in separate papers.
