Cognitive Mechanisms of Collaborative Learning and Technology Supports (협동학습의 인지적 기제와 테크놀로지의 지원)

  • The main goal of this paper is to understand the underlying cognitive mechanisms of collaborative learning and how it can be supported by technology. The paper first overviews changes in conceptions of learning and distinguishes different types of joint works including collaborative learning. Cognitive mechanisms of collaborative learning are examined in terms of resource pooling, facilitation of constructive activities, knowledge co-construction, and supports for monitoring and regulation. Socio-emotional mechanisms of collaborative learning moderate the directions and strengths of these cognitive mechanisms. Technology supports these mechanisms in a number of different ways. Seven major supports technology provides for collaborative learning are discussed. A deeper understanding of the cognitive mechanisms of collaborative learning can help us to harness the benefits of collaborative learning better and also to develop more sophisticated tools supporting collaborative learning.

  • 웹기반 교육시스템을 이용한 온라인 강좌는 인터넷의 발달과 더불어 컴퓨터 교육 시스템 분야의 이슈로 부각되고 있으며 이러한 웹기반 교육시스템의 보급과 더불어 사용자의 다양한 교육 서비스에 대한 욕구 증대에 따른 교육서비스를 응용한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 학습자와 교사간의 상호작용을 위한 도구들이 다양하게 지원되고 있지만, 교과과정을 개설하고 이를 운영하는 교사의 입장에서 볼 때, 등록한 모든 학생들이 대면하게 되는 상황을 모두 접수하고, 그들의 학습 상태를 분석하여 학습자에게 가장 적합한 코스 구성 및 스케줄을 제공한다는 것은 어려운 일이다. 따라서, 이러한 웹기반 교육 시스템에서의 학습자에게 효과적인 학습 방법과 코스 구성, 그리고 코스 스케줄 등의 피드백을 제공할 수 있는 에이전트가 필요하게 되었다. 또한, 최근에 학습자의 요구에 맞는 코스웨어 주문이 증가되고 있는 추세이며 그에 따라 웹 기반 교육 시스템의 효율적이고 자동화된 교육 에이전트의 필요성이 인식되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 학습자의 학습 모니터링과 지속적인 학습 평가에 의하여 개인 학습자의 학습 성취도를 계산하여 학습자에게 적합한 코스 스케쥴을 제공해 주는 코스 스케쥴링 멀티 에이전트를 제안하고자 한다.

CLOVES: a Virtual World Builder for Constructing Virtual Environments for Science Inquiry Learning (클로브스: 과학 탐구 학습을 위한 가상환경 저작도구)

  • This paper presents the motivation, design, and a preliminary evaluation of a virtual world builder, CLOVES. CLOVES is designed to support rapid construction of data-rich virtual environments and instruments for young children's science inquiry teaming. It provides a three-tiered programming Interface: a visual design environment, scripting layer, and low-level application programming interface targeting for multiple levels of programming expertise. It is also intended to be a collaborative medium among interdisciplinary domain experts such as educators, 3D modelers and software developers. A preliminary case study was conducted to evaluate the capabilities and effectiveness of CLOVES. The results showed that designers actively participated in decision making at every stage of the design process and shared knowledge among one another.

  • The music education improves the creative talent, social skills and academic achievement of the students. For the efficient music education, the learner centered study is highly recommended rather than the passive education, which supports self-control in selecting teaching materials, learning patterns and speed. For the successful self learning, it is requested to develop the collaborative educational learning tools, especially electronic collaborators such as H/W and S/W. Though there exist many commercialized electronic instruments and the PC MIDI based softwares, these tools have some limits and problems for the primary student to learn playing the musical instrument by himself. In this paper, we propose a supporting tool implementation method using an electronic keyboard instrument with USB Interface and PC-based software to help the primary student to learn playing the musical instrument. We implemented an electronic keyboard instrument module compactly and at low cost using a PIC18F4550 MCU. PC based software was developed to edit musical score, process the MIDI information, and interact with the electronic keyboard instrument module. This tool can offer a similar keyboard instrument environment and can be incorporated with self learning contents.

Development of A Sketch-Based Robot Simulation Tool (스케치 기반 로봇 시뮬레이션 도구 개발)

  • It is the advantage of robot programming to improve the learners' interest. However, the drawback is existed in the fact that it is not easy to determine whether the problem lies in the hardware factor or programmed logic when an error takes place. This study is an attempt to develop a simulation tool which assists learners to concentrate on the problems not relating to robot assembling but to robot program. It aims to enable beginners make a sketch of their ideas and examine their logic through simulation. Therefore, an Etoys-based robot programming tool is developed to allows user to download and execute the simulated program into an assembled robot. The significance of this study is that easy activity of sketch-based simulation can support learners to understand how the principles of computer science are applied in daily life such as an automatic door system.

  • In this paper, we designed the on-line Real-time Video Communication Learning System(RVCLS) for Web-based project learning and develop programs for test groups. And we have also analyzed how the Web-based learning using RVCLS change the students' perception on the classroom environment, using the WIHIC which is the classroom environment examination tool As a result, the Web-based project learning activities using RVCLS had affirmative effects on the eight areas of classroom environment such as students unity, teacher support, participation in class, spontaneity, exploration activities, task-oriented mind, cooperative attitude, and equality. Also, the web -based project learning using RVCLS is expected to help students enhance the self-directed learning capacity and increase abilities to use ICT.

Promoting Teacher Learning: Implications for Designing Professional Development Programs (수학교사의 수업전문성 신장을 위한 교사 연수 프로그램 개발의 기본 관점)

  • To offer insights in organizing professional development programs to promote teachers' substantial ongoing learning, this paper provides an overview of situative perspectives in terms of cognition as situated, cognition as social, and cognition as distributed. Then, it describes research findings on how mathematics teachers can enhance their knowledge and thus improve their instructional practices through participation in a professional development program that mainly provides opportunities to learn and analyze students' mathematical thinking and to perform mathematical tasks through which they interpret the understanding of students' mathematical thinking. Further, it shows that a knowledge of students' mathematical thinking is a powerful tool for teacher learning. In addition, it suggests that teacher-researcher and teacher-teacher collaborative activities influence considerably teachers' understanding and practice as such collaborations help teachers understand new ideas of teaching and develop innovative instructional practices.

The Development of Instruments to Assess Attitudes Toward Science of Students and Their Parents (학생과 부모의 과학에 대한 태도 측정 도구 개발)

  • The purpose of this study was to describe the scales of attitudes toward science and the validation of instruments for students and their parents. These instruments include three scales: cognition about value of science, affection toward science & science learning, and conative participation in scientific activities. A sample of middle school students (N=198) and their parents (N=153) was selected. Data analysis indicated that the instruments developed in this study had proper validity and reliability measures (${\alpha}=0.93$ for student questionnaire, ${\alpha}=0.88$ for parent questionnaire). The results reveal that both students and parents were well aware of the academic/vocational and social value of science, but they had low awareness of the individual value. In spite of that, students have positive feelings regarding enjoyment toward science and science learning, their self-concept and self-efficacy were low. And parents' responses were observed to support their kids in general field but not in science. Especially, female students had low participation in scientific activities and also their parents had low support for scientific activities (p<.0.1). Finally, there were positive correlations between students' attitudes toward science and their parents' affection toward science & science learning and conative participation in science activities.

  • 교육은 끊임없는 대화로 이루어지므로 웹을 통한 온라인 학습 시스템에서도 사회적 상호작용이 활발히 일어날 수 있는 환경을 만드는것이 필수적이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 인터넷을 활용한 효과적인 문제 해결학습을 위해 플랫폼 독립적인 상호작용도구를 이용하는 웹 기반의 문제 해결학습시스템을 개발하였다. 문제 해결 모델은 학교 현장에서 학습효과를 증진시키기 위한 문제 해결 학습 모형으로 전문가 모둠 활동과 향상점수를 활용하여 학습에 긍정적인 영향을 주는 것으로 평가되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 문제해결을 위한 핵심적인 기법이라고 할 수 있는 문제분석과 결정분석 두 가지 기법을 중심으로 학습 프로그램 내용을 조직하고 지원하는 여러 가지 기능을 개발하였다.
