Comparison Study of Knowledge, Attitude and Motivation Between Blood Donors and Non-donors (헌혈자와 비헌혈자의 헌혈에 대한 지식, 태도 및 동기에 대한 비교)

  • This study was conducted to compare the date on knowledge, attitude and motivation toward blood donation between donors and nondonors. The study population included 622 donors and 322 nondonors who visited the mobile blood donation car of Taegu Red Cross Blood Center and participated the group appointed blood donation campaign managed by the center from March 1 to March 31, 1989. The donors and nondonors were questioned above mentioned items with a formulated questionnaire. Among the general characteristics of the subjects in the study, male predominace(84.1% in donors and 73.6% in nondonors) in young age group (16-24 years) was the outstanding feature. As a medium of information about blood donation, "television" was playing a dominant role(donors ; 75.2%, nondonors ; 78.9%), while "magazine"played more important roles among donors. Of the donors, 70.6% and of the nondonors, 58.1% replied that they had ever been induced to donate blood (p<0.01). Major inducers were friend and personnel of mobile blood donation vehicle. On the measuring of knowledge level, the average rates of correct answer was higher in donors (62.6%) than in nondonors (54.1%) (p<0.01). Higher the education level was presented, higher the knowledge level (p<0.05). There have been noticeable difference between donors and nondonors in blood replying the questionnaire set to measure their attitude toward blood donation. especially in the items such as "impression toward blood", "selection of transfusion blood source" and "view on the situation of blood shortage." The major motivation toward blood donation of the groups were "possible future need" and "altruism or humanitarian interest". The major reasons for not donating blood in both groups were "fear of the needle" and around to visit to mobile car or center."

A Survey on the Knowledge and Attitudes of Women in Taegu toward Weaning Diet for Infants (이유식에 대한 대구지역 여성들의 인식조사)

  • Successful weaning is very important to provide adequate nutrients for normal growth and to induce a good diet habit. We conducted a survey on the knowledge and attitudes of women who live in Taegu toward weaning in infants, to figure out how much they know about weaning diet for the infants, which source they prefer to get the information about weaning diet, whether their knowledge affect their practice about weaning in infants, and the most effective way to educate them. A survey was conducted with the prepared questionnaire on women who responded at the residential area and market place, and those who visited Department of Pediatrics, Yeungnam University Hospital from July 25 to September 15, 1997. Statistical analysis was done with student t-test and ANOVA using SPSS program. Among total 303 responders, those who aged between 30 and 39 years were 37.2%. Scores for the six questions about weaning policy showed highest in the age group between 30 and 39 years. Higher score was recorded in the more educated group, in those who get informations about weaning diet from books, magazines and pediatricians. The majority of the responders had wrong concepts, such as feeding weaning diet using bottle(69.1%), feeding mixed with formula in the same bottle(64.5%), addition of salt(68.4%). Those who had higher educational level preferred books, magazines rather than neighbors or mother to get informations about weaning diet. Those who preferred books or magazines started weaning, stopped bottle feeding, and used spoon earlier, and their children had unbalanced diet habits less frequently. Home-made food was used most frequently, and commercial products were used less frequently. Those who were employed preferred home-made food rather than commercial products, it may be caused by the difference of the educational backgrounds from those of the unemployed. In conclusion, most responders ask neighbors and mother to get informations about weaning, and the incorrect knowledge from them could cause inadequate weaning practice and induce bad diet habit in their children. We have to find the reasons why they did not refer books or magazines frequently, and the way to resolve the problem.

Global ginseng research

  • We conducted a comprehensive analysis of research papers on ginseng to provide an overview of global ginseng research. The qualitative and quantitative interpretation was carried out using collected data of Panax species and six other herbal plants from the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. We summarized and classified them by country/territory and institutions based on the corresponding author's institution. The first ginseng paper appeared in 1905 and since then, 8,090 papers have been published until 2019. Among them 7,385 papers were published in recent 24 years from 1996 to 2019. It was 18 papers in 1980, 53 in 1990, 97 in 2000, 369 in 2010, and increased to 678 in 2019. Proportion of ginseng papers in total number of scientific papers were also greatly increased, namely, 0.0008% in 1970, 0.0044% in 1980, 0.101% in 1990, 0.0141% in 2000, and 0.0422% in 2019. 7,099 original research papers including notes and 286 review papers were published during last 24 years. Total 3,286 institutions in 78 countries and 1,274 journals contributed to the publication of ginseng papers. Korea was the leading country in ginseng papers up to 2013, however, China took over the top from 2014. Chinese institutions contributed 40.3% of total papers followed by Korea (34.7%), USA (6.0%), Japan (4.1%), and Canada (2.9%). Ginseng was the most studied medicinal plant during last 24 years followed by tea, garlic, ginkgo, and ginger whose number of papers were 6,499, 3,641, 2,590, and 1,945, respectively.

A Review on User Interface Research in the Field of Information Science (사용자 인터페이스 연구에 관한 분석적 고찰: 정보학분야 학회지 논문을 중심으로)

  • The aims of this study are to provide an overview of research trends on user interface in the field of Information Science. This study attempts to address the following four questions: 1) what are the research areas or subject topics, 2) what are the patterns of user interface publication, 3) what methods are often used to what topics, and 4) what are the changes in the subject topics and research methods over the past ten years. It analyzed a total of 128 research articles published in four Korean LIS journals and one U.S. journal. The study also reviewed 72 articles published in Korean journals for identifying research trends. The study found that the most productive areas were 'web site evaluation', followed by 'search interface', 'information design' and 'interaction style design'. The most frequently used research methods were survey methods, followed by unobtrusive methods, and experiments. Journal of the Korean Society for Information Management published the most articles on research of user interface. The research of user interface was conducted more frequently in the early 2000s than later years.

Differences of Reading the Pure Hangul Text and the Hangul Plus Hanja Text in Reading Speed, Comprehension, and Memory (한글 전용과 국한 혼용의 언어 심리학적 고찰(I): 읽기 시간, 이해, 기억에서의 차이)

  • 본 연구는 한글 전용과 한자 혼용이 글의 이해 속도, 이해 정도, 내용의 기억에 어떤 영향을 미치는 가를 조사하기 위해 실시되었다. 한글 전용론과 한자 혼용론은 각각 나름대로의 논리를 가지고 서로 논쟁을 펼쳐왔다. 먼저 한글전용론의 주장을 살펴보면, 한자는 배우기 어렵고 쓰기도 불편해 쉽게 익힐 수 있는 한글을 사용해야 하며, 한자를 사용함으로 인해서 순 우리말의 발전이 방해를 받고, 글자 생활의 기계화와 출판 문화의 발달에 있어 한자는 이것을 어렵게 한다는 것이다. 반면에, 한자혼용론의 주장에 따르면, 한자말은 한자로 적을 때 그 의미의 파악이 빠르고 정확하고, 우리말 어휘의 절반 이상을 한자어가 차지하고 있으므로 한자를 가르치는 것이 국어교육의 지름길이고, 우리말에는 동음이의어가 많아서 한글로만 적을 경우 그 뜻을 식별하기 어렵고, 한자는 각 글자가 모두 뜻을 가지고 있으므로, 각각을 조합하여 새로운 의미의 단어를 쉽게 만들 수 있음은 물론이고 한글로 쓸 경우 길게 쓰여져야만 하는 것을 짧게 쓸 수 있다는 장점을 가지고 있으며, 한자를 쓰지 않으면 우리의 전통 문화를 이어 받을 수 없으며 한자를 공통으로 쓰고 있는 동양문화권에서도 고립을 초래할 수 있다는 것이다. 이렇게 한글전용과 한자혼용에 대한 의견이 다양한 만큼 우리나라의 한자에 대한 정책도 그 갈피를 잡지 못하고 계속 바뀌어 왔다. 독립이후 정부에서는 법령과 훈령 등으로 모든 공문서에서의 한자사용을 금지하고 일반 사회의 문자 생활에도 한글을 전용할 것을 권고하지만 이 지침은 결국 공문서에만 한정되어 왔고 후에는 이것조차도 유명무실해졌다. 또한 중고등학교의 한자교육 정책도 수차례 변화되어 한글만을 배운 세대가 사회에 나와 여전히 한자가 사용되고 있어 적응에 문제점을 가지기도 하였다. 본 연구에서는 그 동안 계속되어 온 한글과 한잔의 사용에 관한 논쟁을 언어심리학적인 연구 방법을 통해 조사하였다. 즉, 글을 읽는 속도, 글의 의미를 얼마나 정확하게 이해했는지, 어느 것이 더 기억에 오래 남는지를 측정하여 어느 쪽의 입장이 옮은 지를 판단하는 것이다. 실험 결과는 문장을 읽는 시간에서는 한글 전용문인 경우에 월등히 빨랐다. 그러나. 내용에 대한 기억 검사에서는 국한 혼용 조건에서 더 우수하였다. 반면에, 이해력 검사에서는 천장 효과(Ceiling effect)로 두 조건간에 차이가 없었다. 따라서, 본 실험 결과에 따르면, 글의 읽기 속도가 중요한 문서에서는 한글 전용이 좋은 반면에 글의 내용 기억이 강조되는 경우에는 한자를 혼용하는 것이 더 효율적이다.

  • 차는 세계에서 가장 오랜 역사를 가지고 있는 음료로 건강에 대한 관심증가와 함께 음용량이 꾸준히 증가하는 추세이다. 그러나 국내 차 산업은 중국이나 일본 등에 비해 가격 품질경쟁력, 상품개발 면에서 크게 뒤떨어져 있는 실정이며, 향후 차시장도 전면적인 시장개방의 위협에 직면해 있어 차 산업의 발전을 위해서는 경쟁력 있는 수출전략과 함께 국내산업 유지를 위한 전략도 모색해야 한다. 본 연구는 차 소비자의 구매 선택속성을 분석한 것이다. 수도권에 거주하는 20세 이상 남녀 소비자를 대상으로 총 220부의 질문지를 배부하여 최종적으로 189부를 분석하였다. 전체 조사대상자는 여자가 155명(82.0%)이었으며, 연령은 20대가 29명(15.3%), 30대가 52명(27.5%), 40대가 56명(29.6%), 50대 이상은 52명(27.5%)이었다. 교육수준은 대학교졸/재가 91명(48.2%), 으로 가장 많은 비율을 차지했으며, 직업은 회사원/공무원이 59명(31.2%), 주부가 59명(31.2%)으로 가장 많은 비율을 차지했다. 월평균 소득은 200만원~300만원 미만이 57명(30.2%)으로 가장 많은 비율을 차지했다. 조사대상자의 차 소비 특성으로는 잎차와 티백, 가루차를 포함해 연평균 차 구매량이 '1~3통'이라고 응답한 사람이 73명(38.6%)으로 가장 높게 나타났고, '4~6통'이 39명(20.6%), '1통 미만'이 32명(16.9%), '6~10통'은 24명(12.7%), '10통 이상'은 21명(11.1%)으로 나타났다. 차를 마시는 장소는 '사무실이나 학교'가 100명(52.9%)으로 가장 높게 나타났으며, '집'은 83명(43.9%), '녹차전문점이나 찻집'은 6명(3.2%)으로 나타났다. 차를 마시는 상황은 '혼자 마신다'가 72명(38.1%)으로 가장 높게 나타났다. '친구와 만날 때나 사교모임 시'는 68명(36.0%), '가족과 함께 대화 시'는 31명(16.4%), '사업상대를 만날 때'는 18명(9.5%)으로 나타났다. 차를 음용하는 이유는 '편안한 대화를 하는데 도움이 되기 때문'이 65명(34.4%)으로 가장 높게 나타났고, '건강에 좋은 웰빙 음료이기 때문'은 53명(28.0%), '기호음료로서 맛과 향이 좋기 때문'은 42명(22.2%), '정신을 맑게 해주기 때문'은 21명(11.1%), '갈증해소에 좋기 때문'은 8명(4.2%)으로 나타났다. 차 구입 시 정보를 얻는 곳은 '주위사람들'이 77명(40.7%)으로 가장 높았고, '신문이나 잡지, TV 등'은 66명(34.9%), '판매원이나 시음을 통해서'는 33명(17.5%), '인터넷'이 13명(6.9%)으로 나타났다. 차소비자들이 가장 중요하게 여기는 속성은 맛(4.31)이 가장 높게 나타났으며, 그 다음이 향(4.12), 브랜드(3.84), 가격(3.76), 생산지역(3.75), 발효정도(3.72), 색(3.68), 채엽시기(3.69), 포장(3.66), 제조방법(3.56) 순으로 나타났다.

Non-Point Source Mitigation Analysis by Applying Riparian Area in Nakdong River Using SWAT (SWAT을 이용한 수변구역 조성에 따른 낙동강유역의 비점오염원 저감효과 분석)

  • 1990년대 정부는 비점오염원 부하의 심각성을 인식하여 1995년부터 한강, 낙동강, 금강 그리고 영산강 이른바 4대강 유역에 대한 비점오염원의 조사연구사업을 실시하였다. 그러나 비점오염원의 경우 처리시설만으로는 처리하는데 한계가 있다는 특성 때문에 도시지역과 비도시지역에 대한 비점오염원을 관리하기 위한 대책 마련과 제도적 관리방안의 수립이 시급한 실정이었다. 따라서 본 연구는 토지매수가 상수원 수질개선에 미치는 영향 및 효과분석을 하고, 토지매수를 통한 비점오염물질 저감효과 분석을 위해 토지매수에 따른 비점오염원에 의한 오염물질 변화 해석 및 토지매수에 따른 최적 수변녹지대 조성을 위한 식생 효과를 분석 하였다. 수변구역 내의 비점오염물질의 공공수역 유입을 억제하기 위한 방법들 중에서 보편적이고 자연친화적인 방법이 수변구역(riparian buffer strip), 또는 수변완충구역(riparian buffer zone)을 조성하여 관리하는 것이다. 수변구역은 하천유역의 토양, 식물, 동물을 포함하는 시스템으로서 하천흐름을 조절하고, 물을 저장하며, 물에서 유해한 물질을 제거할 뿐만 아니라, 수중 및 육상의 식물과 동물을 위한 서식처를 제공하는 등 수질과 수량 그리고 생태계 측면에서 중요한 지역이라고 할 수 있다. 따라서 현재 낙동강 수계에 수변구역 조성시의 수질개선효과 연구를 수행하였다. 토지매수가 상수원 수질개선에 미치는 영향 및 효과분석을 위해서 SWAT 모형을 적용하여 유량 및 수질모의를 실시하였다. 유역내 수변구역을 조성시 수변구역의 범위가 증가함에 따라 비점오염원의 감소가 크게 나타나고 있었다.로 대부분의 가정(家庭)은 아침 식사로 밥을 좋아하였다. (8) 편식을 고치는 것이 어렵다고 하였으며, 어린이 간식에 대하여는 깊은 관심을 나타냈다. 2. 영양교육(營養敎育) 현황실태(現況實態) (1)식생활(食生活)에 필요한 지식(知識)은 신문이나 잡지, 라디오와 텔레비젼을 통해서 대체로 얻고 있다. (2) 음식과 영양섭취와의 관계성이 있다고 답한 주부(主婦)는 70.8% 이었으며, 가족(家族)의 영양(營養)에 대하여 늘 생각하는 주부는 60% 이었다. 3. 식품섭취 빈도 거의 먹지 않는 식품(食品)으로 버터가 43.%로 가장 높았고, 육류의 섭취율이 낮았다. 반면, 김치와 채소류의 섭취율은 높았다. 집단간의 상관도를 보면 교육별로 김치, 장아찌, 콩이 각각 p>0.5 수준에서 유의한 차가 없었고, 나머지는 유의한 차가 있었다. 연령별로는 멸치가 유의한 차가 없었고(p>0.5), 수입별로는 콩이 유의한 차가 없었다(p>0.5). 4. 영양지식(營養知識) 검토 가정생활(家庭生活)에 필요(必要)한 일반적(一般的)인 영양지식(營養知識)은 대체적으로 낮은 편이었다. 어린이 영양, 편식의 해로움, 비만증의 해로움, 임신부 그리고 수유부 영양에 대하여는 일반적으로 알고 있다고 하였으며, 그다음으로 이유기 영양, 어린이 발육에 필요한 식품, 식품과 영양소와의 관계, 우유의 성분, 노인영양에 대하여 잘 알고 있는 비율이 낮았으며, 인체의 영양소, 식단작성여부, 간식의 이론, 식품감별법에 대하여는 가장 낮은 비율을 나타냈다. 각 영양지식은 교육정도가 높을수록 영양지식이 높았고, 교육별 집단간의 유의한 차가 나타났다. Quantitative and Qualitative Analysis of Food and Nutrition information in the Women's magazines (Year 2002) (여성잡지에 나타난 식품영양정보의 양적,질적 현황 조사 (2002년))

  • The desire for the healthy life is increasing as a result of rapidly changing social and economic environment in Korea. Because of the need, informations on health, food and nutrition are being introduced through the mass media. The object of this study is to investigate and analyze the quantity and quality of informations about health, food and nutrition in women's magazines. Six representative domestic monthly magazines(Lady Kyunghyang, Women Donga, Women Chosun, Women JoongAng, Women sense, Jubu Senghwal) were selected for this study. The results of monitoring from June 2002 to September 2002 for the women's magazines were summarized as follows; 1. The percentage of the articles on health, food and nutrition by total area of the women's magazines was 23.1%. There were total 595 articles on health, food and nutrition. Among these, 400 articles(67.2%) were about food and nutrition. 2. The percentage of the advertisements on health, food and nutrition was 35.3% by total area of the woman's magazines. There were 2,353 advertisements on health, food and nutrition. Among these, 1,574(66.9%) advertisements were about food and nutrition. The most frequently advertised advertisements on food and nutrition were about processed foods (527 cases, 33.5%). The second most frequently advertised advertisements were about diet (374 cases, 23.8%). The third one was healthy foods (345 cases, 21.9%). 3. The contents of 215(53.8%) articles (the total number of articles was 400) was suitable. The contents of 89 advertisements(22.3%) did not have accurate informations on health, food and nutrition. For the advertisements in women's magazines (the number of total articles was 2,203), the percentage of the advertisements which was not able to capture the feature of the advertisements was 27.9%, insufficiency of reliable sources was to 21.9%, and exaggeration of the contents in the ads was 16.0%. Articles and advertisements should be backed by scientific research or reliable sources and also the opinions of people with expertise in order to report accurate informations to the general public. In order to achieve these results, there should be continuing monitoring activity for the women's magazines.

Knowledge and Attitude about AIDS among Teachers in Taegu City (대구지역 교원들의 AIDS에 관한 지식 및 태도 조사)

  • The AIDS is a serious health problem worldwide today and also in Korea. Increasing knowledge and modification of behavior by health education is an important goal of human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) prevention strategies. And school health education is an important part of health education. This study was conducted to evaluate the knowledge and attitude about AIDS in teachers and professors in Taegu City and to provide the basic data for school health education. A self-administered questionnaire was given to 1,124 teachers and professors from April to June 1992. Indeed, the majority of the teachers and professors have a lot of knowledges about AIDS, but many of them also have misconceptions. The level of knowledge about AIDS was positively associated with attitude toward infected students. The sources of knowledge about AIDS were mainly TV, newspapers and magazines, but a few of the subjects obtained their knowledge from health education programs. This study suggests that the reinforcement of health education for the teachers, professors and students he needed to provide the accurate knowledge on AIDS and adequate knowledge sources and materials for school health education on AIDS should be developed.

Clinical Applications and Efficacy of Korean Ginseng (고려인삼의 주요 효능과 그 임상적 응용)

  • Korean ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) received a great deal of attention from the Orient and West as a tonic agent, health food and/or alternative herbal therapeutic agent. However, controversy with respect to scientific evidence on pharmacological effects especially, evaluation of clinical efficacy and the methodological approach still remains to be solved. Author reviewed those articles published since 1980 when pharmacodynamic studies on ginseng have intensively started. Special concern was paid on metabolic disorders including diabetes mellitus, circulatory disorders, malignant tumor, sexual dysfunction, and physical and mental performance to give clear information to those who are interested in pharmacological study of ginseng and to promote its clinical use. With respect to chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus, atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, malignant disorders, and sexual disorders, it seems that ginseng plays preventive and restorative role rather than therapeutics. Particularly, ginseng plays a significant role in ameliorating subjective symptoms and preventing quality of life from deteriorating by long term exposure of chemical therapeutic agents. Also it seems that the potency of ginseng is mild, therefore it could be more effective when used concomitantly with conventional therapy. Clinical studies on the tonic effect of ginseng on work performance demonstrated that physical and mental dysfunction induced by various stresses are improved by increasing adaptability of physical condition. However, the results obtained from clinical studies cannot be mentioned in the indication, which are variable upon the scientist who performed those studies. In this respect, standardized ginseng product and providing planning of the systematic clinical research in double-blind randomized controlled trials are needed to assess the real efficacy for proposing ginseng indication. Pharmacological mode of action of ginseng has not yet been fully elucidated. Pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic researches reveal that the role of ginseng not seem to be confined to a given single organ. It has been known that ginseng plays a beneficial role in such general organs as central nervous, endocrine, metabolic, immune systems, which means ginseng improves general physical and mental conditons. Such multivalent effect of ginseng can be attributed to the main active component of ginseng,ginsenosides or non-saponin compounds which are also recently suggested to be another active ingredients. As is generally the similar case with other herbal medicines, effects of ginseng cannot be attributed as a given single compound or group of components. Diversified ingredients play synergistic or antagonistic role each other and act in harmonized manner. A few cases of adverse effect in clinical uses are reported, however, it is not observed when standardized ginseng products are used and recommended dose was administered. Unfavorable interaction with other drugs has also been suggested, which the information on the products and administered dosage are not available. However, efficacy, safety, interaction or contraindication with other medicines has to be more intensively investigated in order to promote clinical application of ginseng.
