Development and Effects of Fear-Reduction Program for Malignant Disease Children with Inserting Implanted Port (이식형 포트 삽입 학령전기 아동의 주사공포감소를 위한 프로그램 개발 및 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a play education program to reduce children's fear of needle insertion to the implanted port, and to assess the effect of this program. Method: The play education program was composed of play education before needle insertion, encouragement during needle insertion, and a present to reward then after needle insertion. Measurement instruments were the Procedure Behavior Check List(PBCL) and Faces Rating Scale(FRS). Results: The first hypothesis, "the PBCL point of children with malignant disease would decrease after play education program", was rejected(before insertion : Z=-0.189, p= .850, during insertion : Z=-0.350. p= .727, after insertion : Z=-0.590, p= .555). The second hypothesis, "the FRS point of children with malignant disease would decrease after play education program education", was rejected(observer 1 : Z=-0.245, p= .806, observer 2 : Z=-0.912, p= .362, self-report : Z=-0.181, p= .856). The third hypothesis, "the Time of needle insertion would decrease after play education program", was rejected(Z=-0.464, p= .642). Conclusion: The effect on fear-reduction of play education program for children with malignant disease inserted implanted port was not significant but continuous education is needed for parents and children.

영국의 아동복지기관 : BAND와 CCK방과후클럽

  • 이번 두 기관 방문은 ‘SK와 함께하는 행복한 일자리지원센터’의 영국 국제연수의 일환으로 이루어졌다. 연수팀은(사) 부스러기사랑나눔회 행복한 일자리지원센터와 SK 사회공헌팀으로 구성되어 있었으며, 허인영 사무국장 외 8인으로 이루어져 있었다. 이번 연수는 영굴에서 학령기 아동에 대한 지역사회 아동보호 및 방과 후 보호. 교육을 탐방하고 우리나라 상황에 적용 가능한 사회적 기업 모델을 모색하는 데 그 목적을 두고 있었다. 필자는 이번 연수팀의 두 기관 방문에 동행하며 통역과 소개를 하는 역할을 맡게 되었다. 연수팀이 방문하기 전 이미 방문할 기관에 대한 사전접촉은 마쳐있는 상태였다. 우선 BAND(Bistol Association for Neighbourhood Daycare Ltd)라는 곳을 먼저 접촉한 후 그 기관을 통하여 CCK 방과후클럽(Cabet Cool Kics After School Club)을 소개받게 되었다. 두 기관이 가까운 거리에 위치해 있는 관계로 하루에 두 기관 모두 방문할 수 있었으며 방문은 지난 4월 26일에 이루어졌다.

Recall and Development of Organizational Strategy for Script-Based Category Typicality in Preschool Children (스크립트적 범주전형성에 따른 학령전 아동의 회상수행과 조직화 책략 발달)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine developmental trends in script-based organization strategy and relative influences of age, use of organizational strategy and category typicality of lists on children's recall. The subjects were 120 infant children, -40 four years old, 40 five years old, 40 six years old. All subjects were received 1 of 2 slot-filler lists of items differing in category representativness. Data were analysed by two-way Anova, Duncan's post-hoc test and Multiple Regression analysis. The major findings were as follows. 1. Recall and use of organizational strategy were increased with age. 2. At each age level, children showed high level of recall and organization strategy for category typical than category atypical. 3. Children's age, use of organizational strategy and category typicality of list significantly predicted children's recall. 42% of the variance of children's recall was explained by three variables. The relative influence of age to the prediction of children's recall was the strongest.

Eating Habits and Social Behavior in Korean Preschool Children (학령전 아동의 식습관과 사회적 행동과의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the eating habits and social behavior of preschool children. Six hundred twenty seven children ranging in age from 4 to 7 and their mothers were asked to complete a questionnaire assessing the children's eating habits and kindergarten teachers were asked to rate the social behavior of their preschool children. The eating habits of children positively correlated to those of their mothers, primarily in meal regularity, breakfast frequency, unbalanced meals, overeating, eating delivery food and food preferences. The results showed that 33% of preschool children always had unbalanced meals and 50% sometimes had them. Children who had ice cream, cake, carbonated drinks or cookies as snacks more often, tend to have meals irregularly because they favored sweets and were possibly induced to have unbalanced meals. Sixty five percent of the children were graded as good in terms of having healthy eating habits and had good social behavior. The results indicate that the eating habits of children are related to problem behavior, especially social withdrawal and anxiety. That is, children who have undesirable eating habits are likely to be anxious or socially withdrawn.

Relationship between Preschoolers' Theory-of-Mind and Parenting Style (학령전 아동의 마음의 이론과 양육 방식과의 관련성)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between preschoolers'theory of mind and parenting style. The mothers of 66 3- and 4-year-olds were given questionnaires eliciting information about parenting style, SES, number of younger and older siblings, the time child spends with mother. Three variables were positively correlated with theory of mind: age, number of older siblings, and affective parenting style. The time spent with mother was negatively correlated with theory of mind. Factors most strongly affecting theory of mind were child's age and mother's affective parenting style. The resets are consistent with recent research showing that parenting style may be important for theory of mind understanding.

A study on spontaneous imitation between siblings of preschool children in Free-situation (학령전 아동형제간의 놀이상황중 즉각적인 모방행동 연구)

  • This study intends to investigate preschool-sibling's spontaneous imitation during their free-plays through the observation of 41 pairs of siblings aged from 1 to seven years. RESULTS : 1. Sibling's imitation showed in all subjects and had various distribution according to sibling's personalities. 2. Because of sibling's several facts. Their imitation showed differently. 1) Imitation appeared to decline to decline as children grew older. Imitation showed most frequently at the age of 2 years, and decreased after that. 2) Due to the effect of birth-order, the younger one showed his imitation approximately 4.3 times more than the elder one. 3) The effect of sex-composition seemed to coincide with the sex-typing hypothesis rather than the like-sex hypothesis. 4) Boy's imitation showed more frequently than girl's, but the difference was not so significant to be noticed. 3. In siblings, physical imitation was more frequent than verbal imitation, but it was reversed in peer's imitation. 4. The play-situation in which sibling's imitation showed mostly differed from that of Peer's imitation. That is, sibling's imitation appeared in solitary play but peers imitation did appear in associate play.

Articulation Characteristics of Preschool Children in the Bilingual Environment (학령전 이중언어 환경 아동의 조음특성)

  • The aim of this study was to examine the articulation characteristics of preschool children in the bilingual or monolingual environment. Subjects included 23 children of 4 to 6 years old in the bilingual environment, and 19 children of monolingual environment. Their speech was evaluated in terms of articulation correctness and intelligibility by the author and a speech therapist. Results showed as the following: First, there were some significant differences between bilingual and monolingual children in the percentage of consonants correctly articulated. But there was no significant difference between their language environment or ages in the percentage of vowels correctly articulated. Second, there were some significant differences between the bilingual and monolingual children in the intelligibility of word articulation. Also, there were some significant differences between the two language groups in the sentence intelligibility. There was a high positive correlation between the word and sentence intelligibility.

Temperament characteristics of children with persistent and recovered stuttering: A longitudinal study (말더듬이 지속된 아동과 회복된 아동의 기질 특성 비교: 종단연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the temperament characteristics associated with stuttering subtypes (persistent and recovered) over time and the relationship between those characteristics and stuttering severity. This four-year longitudinal study covered 41 preschool children who stutter (CWS) and 30 preschool children who do not stutter (the CWNS group). At the final visit, 27 CWS were classified as the Recovered group and 14 CWS were classified as the Persistent group. Using the Children's Behavior Questionnaire-Short Form, each participant's temperament characteristics were measured twice: at one year and two years after the initial visit. The three subscale scores (Extraversion, Negative Affectivity, and Effortful Control) and the 15 component scores were analyzed, and they were used for between-group and between-visit comparisons. The Persistent group showed a significantly higher Negative Affectivity subscale score at every visit than the Recovered and CWNS groups. Within this subscale, significant group differences were found in the 'Fear' and 'Anger/Frustration' components, demonstrating that the Persistent group scored higher than the Recovered and CWNS groups. There was no significant correlation between the subscale and component scores and the stuttering severity scores within the Persistent group at any visit. These results support the proposition that these two stuttering subtypes have different temperament characteristics; they also imply that temperament might be influenced by stuttering experience over time.

Epidemiological Studies on Ascaris lumbricoides Reinfection in Rural Communities in Korea II. Age-specific Reinfection Rates and Familial Aggregation of the Reinfected Cases (한국 농촌지역의 회충재감염에 대한 역학적 조사연구 ll. 연령별 재감염률 및 재감염의 가족집적성)

  • Epidemiological studies on the reinfetion pattern of Ascaris lumbricoides were undertaken by means of blanket mass chemotherapy and worm collection in a rural village in Korea, during 1977~1980. The study objectives were to determine the age (sex)-specific reinfection rate during 2, 4, 6 and 12 months through repeated mass chemotherapy with pyrantel pamoate, and to observe the familial aggregation tendency of the reinfected cases. The results obtained are as follows: 1. The age (sex)-reinfection curve revealed that the reinfection rate is much higher in younger individuals than in olders in all of 4 kinds of interval chemotherapy groups. The highest reinfection rate and the highest burden of reinfected worms were observed in preschool children, followed by primary school students. Such fluctuation in the age-specific reinfection rates was more pronounced in males than in females. 2. There was noted a significant tendency of familial aggregation among the reinfected cases. It is suggested that reinfection occurs never randomly but preferably to the members of certain household families. From these reinfection analyses, it is inferred that the principal mode of A. lumbricoides transmiSSIOn in the surveyed rural area is likely to be of 'dooryard type', in which case children and certain family members are more preferably reinfected. It is also suggested that the preschool children should be included in the primary targets of mass control programme.

Design and Implementation of Safe Commuting Management Mobile App for Preschoolers (학령전 아동 안전 통학 관리를 위한 모바일 앱 설계 및 구현)

  • Accidents of commuting vehicles for preschoolers continue to occur despite various safety policies from the government. In order to minimize such accidents, it is necessary to use both the vehicle-mounted safety commutation management software for the driver, and the mobile App to manage the safe schooling of the children that can inform such information to parents in time. In this paper, we describe the design and implementation of the safety management software architecture. The mobile application is designed for Android operating systems. It informs current driving information if the bus as well as the list of current boarded children. Teacher in the bus can manage exceptional cases such as riding child without RFID and unregistered temporary riders like grandparent for convenience and flexibility.
