  • In order for school library to fully serve as a key educational element of a school, teachers' positive perception on the library's role is essential. Due to the lack of the perception, however, school libraries are not closely related to class activities in practice. Since teachers' perception on school library has been regarded as an given environmental factor in the field of school libraries, alternatives for revitalizing school libraries proposed in previous studies were not effective in practice. We developed a hypothesis that activities in school libraries have a certain impact on the teachers' perception, and tested the hypothesis and identified library factors to the perception in this study. Through a series of statistical analyses with the data from a questionnaire survey with teachers in elementary schools, we identified that the teachers perceived the library as non-curricular element, their perceptions were affected by the library. Consequently, the school library can influence the teachers' perveption. This study has implications to explore practical alternatives to improve the teachers' perception on school libraries by activities in school libraries.

  • A school library is an institution that supports the school's educational objectives through various educational activities based on information resources, and teachers' perception is essential to connect resources and users. However, most studies have been conducted based on the self-perception of teacher librarians. This study aims to understand the effect of teachers' experience of library programs and cooperative classes with the school library on their perception of the school library roles and librarian teachers' professionalism. A questionnaire survey was conducted on 78 teachers at eight national and public high schools in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, and the results were statistically analyzed using factor analysis and regression. As a result, it was found that the teachers' experiences affect their perception of the school library's roles, especially informational, educational, and cultural roles. Also, the teachers' experiences affect their perception of librarian teachers' educational support and library expertise. Based on the results, considerations in school library programs and cooperative classes were suggested to improve teachers' perception of the school library roles and librarian teachers' professionalism.

  • This study investigates the influence of school cultures, specifically culture of teachers' collaboration, principals' leadership, students' peer relation, on school satisfaction of school members such as students, parents, teachers, and principals. To achieve the goal, this study analyzed the data from the survey for the Seoul education longitudinal analysis during 2010 and 2011, and conducted the following statistical meth5ods: descriptive statistics, correlation, and multiple regression. There were significant effects of students' peer relations and culture of teachers' collaboration on students' and parents' school satisfaction. This study found two implications. Culture of teachers' collaboration is the common factor to effect students' parents', and teachers' school satisfaction. Overall, this study attempted to review school satisfaction and school culture at the same time from students', parents', teachers', and principals' perspectives, even though previous literature on school satisfaction has generally focused on each groups' perspective separately.
