In this study, learning materials that can be applied for web-based distant learning model were developed based on the characteristics of elementary school science in which investigation skills and thinking ability are considered to be important. And the effect of students' activity in a reports on student's investigating and thinking ability was investigated. While designing diverse experimental procedures, the students had. an opportunity to improve their observation attitude and way of scientific thinking. Such improvement was possible, only because the present web-based distant learning model consists of requiring an interaction between the students and a report and evaluation system which can put together such effort. Still, it was acknowledged that, as being in lack of teacher's direct support and supervision, the present web-based distant learning model might be somewhat ineffective in guiding the students in accordance with their own characteristics. For example, the students had a tendency to maintain their basic idea and style even when their reports are individually examined and corrected in terms of the format of the report.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the level of elementary gifted students' argumentation and examine the special features of argumentation founded in scientific inquiry. 28 students were selected in the special education center for the gifted in K National University. They were organized 8 groups of 3~4 students and engaged in scientific inquiry activity. The researcher wasn't involved in students' inquiry activity and argumentation except for the guiding and introducing their activity. In the first session, each group carried out the experiment 'Putting a heated can in the water' and then, the students discussed to probe their experimental results and build their explanation. In the second session, each group presented their experiment results and evidence from their experiment justifying their claims, and had questions from other groups. The protocol data during 8 groups' argumentations were analyzed using 'Rubric for Scientific Argumentation Assessment' (Yang et al., 2009) in three domains- the form, content and attitude. As a result, in form domain, almost groups were rated 2 points due to their argument without rebuttal on the subcategory of 'composition', but they got a good grade above 3 points in subcategory such as 'claim', 'ground', and 'conclusion'. In content domain, almost groups got points above 3 points. In attitude domain, there were some striking contrast between each groups. Six groups got good score more than 4 points on the subcategory of openness, but two groups, they alleged and got score below 3 point. While the 6 groups of all got 4 points in the aspect of participation, 3 groups got 3 points lower than because they only just asserted and not interact with other groups. Throughout the argumentation, two features were found that; as time goes by, arguments were refined; Students tended to use their prior to knowledge rather than evidence such as experimental data in making claims and conclusions.

The purpose of this study was to find the relationship between elementary school teachers' beliefs of inquiry and science performance assessment. To collect data for analyzing elementary school teachers' beliefs of inquiry and their practice of science performance assessment, the researcher was surveyed with elementary school teachers by open-ended questionnaires and interview. The findings of this study were as follows; First, Most of elementary school teachers beliefs of inquiry was shown as constructivist tendency. This view of inquiry involves watching and doing experiments, and the skills of thinking processes, in which learners make their own interpretations rather than merely acquiring preexisting knowledge structures. Second, for content knowledge, participants' preception about the target of science performance assessment involved assessing application of science knowledge rather than basic level of substantive knowledge. For inquiry process, participants' preception about the target of science performance assessment involved assessing the lower level of inquiry rather than the higher level of inquiry. Most of participants was measured using a paper and pencil test for the actual evaluation methods due to the ease and objectivity of the assessment, the lack of understanding how to perform the performance evaluation process and method. Especially, participants who recognize that the higher level of inquiry was used performance and informal mode of assessing.

This study aims to investigate the effects of science writing activities on the students' science-related attitude, motivation for learning science, and academic achievement. One hundred and twenty seven second graders of a middle school located in Gyeonggi province participated in this study. The experimental group performed science writing activities, while the comparative group performed problem solving activities at the end of the regular science lessons over 30 class hours. For the students' science-related attitude and motivation for learning science, TOSRA, PALS, and MSLQ were used with some modification and supplementation. For the students' academic achievement, scores on science examinations were used. The results of this study are as follows: First, the test of the science-related attitude showed that science writing activities have positive effects on the cultivation of sciencerelated attitude, as for the sub-factors, 'attitude towards scientific inquiry,' 'pleasure of science lessons,' and 'active attitude towards science'(p<.05). Second, the test of motivation for learning science showed that the science writing activities had positive effect on the improvement in students' motivation, as for the sub-factors, 'difference in values on task' and 'self-efficacy'(p<.05). Third, science writing activities are effective on improvement in the students' academic achievement(p<.05), especially on the high-level achievement group.
This study aims to find how storytelling classes using fairy tales related to science museum exhibits have an effect on positive experience about science. For this study, the theoretical background and preceding studies on the relevance of science education and literature were collected and based on the characteristics of assimilation and the educational value of assimilation, naturally connected to the exhibits in relation to their own life, so that individuals could explore science even out-of-school. Four types of activities were developed by linking four fairy tales mentioned in elementary school textbooks to the G science museum exhibits. Seven elementary school teachers verified the validity of the activity materials. Classes through the developed activity materials were conducted four times in a row, one and a half hours at every turn for 10 students. A positive experience about science test was conducted on the students in a study to confirm that this activity has caused significant changes in science academic emotion among sub-domains of positive experience about science. In order to find the factors that affected the science academic emotion, we interviewed the students in the study and their parents. The results of this study show that the use of fairy tales related to science museum exhibits has led to a significant change in science academic emotion by reducing the burden of learning through the exhibition experience at the science museum, which creates scientific curiosity and recognizes them as a playground.

This study, from a critical view on knowledge-centered science education, aims to explore the wisdom that can be acquired from science. In other words, to find the categories and examples of "Wisdom of Science(WOS)" that can be shared in science classroom is the purpose of this study. For the data collection, twelve hours of physics classes of three high schools were observed, together with teacher interviews and student interviews. Collected data were analyzed qualitatively based on the operational definition of WOS. In this study, WOS was defined in a limited sense to mean 'wise action such as behaviors, attitudes, methods, and thoughts that can be found in the process of formation and application of scientific knowledge'. The results of this study, i.e. three categories and six examples of WOS, can be summarized as follows. First category of WOS is 'wisdom as a scientific attitude'. The examples of this category are 'rational suspicion and open-minded attitude', and 'effort to find the best way in given situation'. Second category of WOS is 'wisdom as a method for problem solving'. The examples of this category are 'thinking with changing the conditions', and 'communication using the language of science'. Third category of WOS is 'wisdom as a reflection about science and human'. The examples of this category are 'understanding of the relationship between science and society', and 'perceiving the relationship between science and my life'. In conclusion, "Wisdom-oriented Science Education" as an alternative goal of future science education is suggested with its meanings and implications.
Leonardo da Vinci is remembered as the greatest genius of the Renaissance. He left outstanding achievements as an artist, scientist and inventor, and contributes up to today's science. He ranks the best in a variety of fields, such as botany, mathematics, geology, astronomy, geometry and optics. It has well known that Leonardo is an artist, scientist, inventor and philosopher. And he was a great anatomist that dissected dead bodies and animals directly and left many anatomical drawings. He took an interest in anatomy from the point of view of the artist, which is why the human body structure and function to know the sakes were "ignorant of the anatomy should not be upset." Over time, he became interested in the structure and function of the body, even get the human body in a difficult environment; he dissected many the human bodies directly. His scientific inquiry and infatuation made him as an advanced pioneer for more than 100 years, and got enough level to surpass the artistry. Leonardo left about 1,800 anatomical figures of the muscular, skeletal, vascular, nervous and urogenital system, and they are also very scientific and high artistic achievements. The aim of this article is to take a look at Leonardo da Vinci's anatomical achievements and thoughts. In addition, the goal is to knowledge today's anatomists about Leonardo da Vinci's astonishing achievements as a great pioneer in anatomy.
This study developed a geological virtual reality-based field trip (VFT) to find an alternative to replace the actual field trip, which is often considered lightly by students owing to difficulties in the school. For this purpose, we selected a total of five geological learning sites that focus on the Mt. Jeoksang Muju-gun, Jeollabuk-do, Korea by evaluating the contents of the curriculum and the possibility of developing a VFT. The developed VFT provided middle-school students with an interactive space to observe and explore rocks and geological structures, including orbicular granite gneiss, tuff, conglomerate, sandstone, stratification, and joints. A semi-structured interview was conducted with the 1st-grade middle-school students to evaluate the educational value of the VFT. The responses of the students were analyzed using semantic network analysis to understand the significance of relationships between the reaction words. Results show that the students were able to sense reality through the VFT, which enabled them to understand and remember the characteristics of rocks. Therefore, students can indirectly have a sense of reality of an outdoor experience through the VFT program, which positively influences their learning. Our study shows that VFT can be effectively utilized as a meaningful learning resource in schools.
The purpose of this study was to find out the effect of the science lesson emphasized creativity and character on the creativity and science related attitudes of elementary school students. To conduct this study, 'Unit 1. Weighing', which is a part of content of 4th grade science text book, was analyzed and 11 science lessons emphasized the elements of creativity and character were developed. One experimental group and one control group of 4th grade students were selected to perform a prior investigation. Then the experimental group attended developed science lessons and the control group attended the traditional science lessons based on the text book and teacher's guide. After conducting lessons, a post investigation was performed for each group and the results were analyzed to produce the following conclusions. First, the science lesson emphasized the creativity and character was more effective than traditional one to improve students' creativity. Especially, fluency, originality and abstractness in sub-elements of creativity, were improved meaningfully. Second, the science lesson emphasized the creativity and character was more effective than traditional one to enhance students' science related attitudes. Especially, in sub-domain, the attitude about scientific research and the application of scientific attitude were enhanced meaningfully. Consequently, science lesson emphasized the creativity and character was thought to have a positive effect on improving the creativity and science related attitudes of elementary students.

Student understanding of the nature of science is necessary not only because it is helpful for solving everyday problems with growing science literacy, but also because it influences students' science learning. Therefore, it was necessary to investigate student views on the nature of science under the 7th national curriculum and compare with those before the 7th national curriculum in order to probe the elements which contribute to changes in student views on the nature of science. A significant number of differences were found between subdimensions of views on the nature of science through the comparison. High school students under the 7th national curriculum had more relativistic, instrumental, and deductive but less process-oriented views than high school students before the 7th national curriculum. The differences between mean values which showed high school student views on the nature of science under and before the 7th national curriculum were significant, except for the subdimension of instrumentanlism/realism. In particular, high school students under the 7th national curriculum possessed a contextual view, whereas those before the 7th national curriculum possessed a decontextual view. Although other factors might be the cause for differences found in this study, we argued by discussion that differences among textbook contents seemed to be the major factor.
