Growth Expectation in Children: Leg Length Discrepancy Related with Bone Tumor in Children (소아에서의 성장 예측: 골종양의 치료와 관련된 소아 하지 부동)

  • The main goals of treatment of malignant bone tumor are the prolongation of life survival and the improvement of quality of life. In growing children, however, leg length discrepancy (LLD) is one of major problem in the treatment of malignant bone tumors. Therefore, the precise understanding of growth in children is essential, and the prediction of LLD is critical in deciding the time and options of surgery. In addition, to use the adequate method of growth expectation, periodic follow-up and collaboration with patient's parents are needed.

  • An FPU(Floating Point unit) is the principle component in high performance computer and is placed on a chip together with main processing unit recently. As a Processing speed of the FPU is accelerated, the rounding stage, which occupies one of the floating point Processing steps for floating point operations, has a considerable effect on overall floating point operations. In this paper, by studying and analyzing the processing flows of the conventional floating point adder/subtractor, multipler and divider, which are main component of the FPU, efficient rounding mechanisms are presented. Proposed mechanisms do not require any additional execution time and any high speed adder for rounding operation. Thus, performance improvement and cost-effective design can be achieved by this approach.

Limb Salvage Surgery after Removal of Infected Tumor Prosthesis with Equalization of Leg Length (감염된 종양 대치물 제거와 하지 단축 보정 후 시행한 사지 구제술 - 증례 보고 -)

  • In 1996, a nine-year-old girl was treated with recycling autograft after wide resection of the distal femoral osteosarcoma. The leg lengthening and revision with growing tumor prosthesis were performed due to limb leg discrepancy and epiphyseal problem. However, deep infection developed after operation, and a temporary spacer with cement and Ender nail was inserted. After infection was controlled completely, the final leg lengthening was performed with mono-external fixator for limb length discrepancy (10 cm). Lastly, Tumor prosthesis was reinserted to preserve the joint function.

  • 디지털 신호처리 알고리즘의 구현은 속도나 메모리의 사용측면에서 고정 소수점 구현이 필요하다. 특히, 정수형 연산 프로세서에서는 소프트웨어에 의한 부동 소수점보다는 고정 소수점 구현이 훨씬 성능이 뛰어나다. 디지털 신호처리 알고리즘의 복잡함과 일반 프로세서의 처리능력의 부족으로 이제까지는 신호처리 알고리즘의 실시간 구현을 위하여 대개 전용 프로세서나 디지털 신호처리를 위한 전용 명령어가 하드웨어적으로 구현되어 있는 프로세서를 사용하여 왔다. 하지만 현재 범용 프로세서의 주파수 속도가 빨라짐에 따라 복잡한 디지털 신호처리 알고리즘을 실시간에 처리할 수 있게 되었다. 하지만 정수형 연산 프로세서에서의 부동 소수점 연산은 프로세서에서 실시간 처리에 많은 어려움을 주게 된다. 본 연구에서는 데이터 타입이 고정된 범용 정수형 연산 프로세서(ARM RISC 32bit CPU)를 가지고 부동 소수점 연산 알고리즘을 고정 소수점 연산형으로 바꾸어서 속도측면과 메모리 측면의 성능을 비교해 보았다.

  • 동족 상잔의 비극 6.25가 있은지 벌서 49년이 지났다. 하지만 아직도 그 상처는 아물지 않고 민족의 가슴 속에 그대로 남아있다. 이 글은 6.25 당시 물 밀듯이 내려오는 북괴군을 맞아 최후의 방어선으로 다부동 전투와 함께 배수진을 치고 목숨을 걸고 사수한 영천지구 전투를 소개한다. 영천지구 전투는 8사단을 중심으로 조국수호를 위한 결사적인 호국정신과 돌격정신으로 이룬 일대 쾌거였으며, 다부동 전투에 비해 부각되지 않은 백절불굴의 통쾌한 승리였다

  • Low-cost and low-power are important requirements in mobile systems. Thus, when a floating-point arithmetic unit is needed, 24-bit floating-point format can be more useful than 32-bit floating-point format. However, a 24-bit floating-point arithmetic unit can be risky because it usually has lower accuracy than a 32-bit floating-point arithmetic unit. Consecutive floating-point operations are performed in 3D graphic processors. In this case, the verification of the floating-point operation accuracy is important. Among 3D graphic arithmetic operations, the floating-point division is one of the most difficult operations to satisfy the accuracy of $10^{-5}$ which is the required accuracy in OpenGL ES 3.0. No 24-bit floating-point divider, whose accuracy is algebraically verified, has been reported. In this paper, a 24-bit floating-point divider is analyzed and it is algebraically verified that its accuracy satisfies the OpenGL requirement.

A Study on Searching Algorithm for Malfunction Pattern of Protection Devices in Distribution System with PV Systems (태양광전원이 연계된 배전계통 보호협조기기의 부동작패턴 탐색알고리즘에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, the Korean government developed the RE3020 (renewable energy) policy to overcome environmental problems, such as fine dust, climate change, and large-scale PV systems interconnected with a distribution system. When a large-scale PV system is interconnected in the distribution system, however, a malfunction can occur, and the protection devices may not be operated because of the dividing effect depending on the magnitude and direction of fault current as well as connection types and location of the PV system. Therefore, this paper proposes a search algorithm for the malfunction pattern of protection devices based on various scenarios, when large-scale PV systems are operated and interconnected in a distribution system. This paper presents a malfunction mechanism of protection devices according to the installation locations of recloser (R/C). Furthermore, the modeling of a distribution system with large-scale PV systems was performed using Off-DAS S/W, and the malfunction patterns of protection devices were analyzed based on a range of scenarios. From the simulation results with the proposed model and algorithm for searching for protection devices, it was confirmed that they are useful and effective in identifying a malfunction phenomenon depending on the installation location of the R/C and connection type of PV system.

Study of Deformity by the Involvement of the Femoral Head of the Proximal Femur in Polyostotic Fibrous Dysplasia (다발성 섬유성 이형성증에서 근위 대퇴골두 침범 여부에 따른 변형 정도)

  • Purpose: To evaluate the treatment result in polyostotic fibrous dysplasia classified according to the involvement of the femoral head. Materials and Methods: Twenty-three patients from March 1987 to March 2014 were reviewed retrospectively. Patients with no involvement of the physeal scar in the femoral head were classified as Type I, and those with involvement of the physeal scar were classified as Type II. A plain radiograph was used to measure the femoral neck shaft angle, articulo-trochanteric distance (ATD), and anterior bowing through the lateral view. A teleoroentgenogram of the lower limb was used to measure the leg length discrepancy and lower extremity mechanical axis. The pre- and postoperative femoral neck-shaft angle and ATD were compared to assess the degree of correction of the deformity. Results: Among a total of 46 cases (23 patients), 28 cases (23 patients) had lesions in the proximal femur. Type I were 16/28 cases (15/23 patients) and Type II were 12/28 cases (9/23 patients). The preoperative proximal femoral neck-shaft angle was 116.8° in Type I and 95.3° in Type II. The ATD was 12.08 mm in Type I and -5.54 mm in Type II. The deformity correction showed significant improvement immediately after surgery, the deformity correction was lost in Type II (neck shaft angle Type I: 133.8°-130.8°, Type II: 128.6°-116.9°, and ATD Type I: 17.66-15.72 mm, Type II: 7.44-4.16 mm). The extent of anterior bowing was 12.74° in Type I and 20.19° in Type II. The mean differences of 12 mm between the 9 patients who showed a leg length discrepancy and the lower extremity mechanical axis showed 4 cases of lateral deviation and 7 cases of medial deviation. Conclusion: In polyostotic fibrous dysplasia, when the femur head is involved, the femur neck shaft angle, ATD, and anterior bowing of the femur had more deformity, and the postoperative correction of deformity was lost, suggesting that the involvement of the femoral head was an important factor in the prognosis of the disease.
