The congenital missing of teeth is common, which takes place since the proliferation and differentiation are not allowed in that tooth bud fail to start development. The purpose of this study is to research incidence rate, number, and missing part of congenital missing teeth, and to study whether a person who has missing teeth has other abnormality of teeth or not. For this study, 1,520 subjects(aged 2.9$\sim$17) who had visited pediatric dentist department of Chonbuk national university dental hospital within 2 years were examined with an panoramic radiograph; exempting third molar missing state. The obtained results are as follows. 1. 8.88% among total subjects show missing teeth; male 9.05%, female 8.64% 2. The most frequently missing permanent teeth were the mandibular second premolars(22.3%). The most frequently missing primary teeth are mandibular lateral incisors(50%). 3. 43.3% patients have one permanent missing tooth, 34.3% have two, and 10.4% have more than six, respectively. In primary teeth, 86.7% patients have one missing tooth, and 13.3% have two missing teeth. 4. 18 patients(13.3%) have missing teeth as well as hyperdontia, while some patients have microdont, ectopic eruption, and fusion teeth.

The dentigerous cysts originate through alteration of the reduced enamel epithelium after amelogenesis is completed, with accumulation of fluid between the layers of the enamel epithelium, or between this epithelium and the tooth crown. Next to the radicular cyst, they are the second most common type of odontogenic cyst. They occur over a wide age range with a peak frequency in the 2nd to 3rd decade. A substantial majority involve the mandibular third molars, followed in order of frequency by the maxillary permanent canines, mandibular second premolars, and maxillary third molars. With regard to the treatment of these cysts, the marsupialization procedure with obturator is recommended during the age when the eruptive force of the teeth is still strong. It can be effective when preservation of the displaced teeth is desirable. We treated the dentigerous cyst by marsupialization with obturator and guided the eruption of involved teeth to normal position. And we got the results as follows : 1. Severely dislocated teeth associated with dentigerous cyst erupted into proper position. 2. The enamel hypoplasia and the root deformity were observed some cases. 3. The bone expansion and defect were healed without infection and recurrence.
The purpose of this case report is to provide the information of the treatment of the impacted-displaced teeth associated with the disease in the jaw. A 10-year-old boy presented with a large radiolucent lesion accompanying the displacement of the second premolar and first molar in the left mandibular body area. The lesion was diagnosed as unicystic ameloblastoma. As a surgical procedure for the present case, marsupialization was executed. For the eruption of displaced impacted teeth, no orthodontic intervention was done for second premolar while a helical spring was used for the forced eruption of first molar. Goof occlusion was established by simple orthodontic intervention.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the stress distribution of the abutment and sup-porting tissues according to the slopes and types of the guiding plane of distal extension removable partial dentures. The 3-dimensional finite element method was used and the finite element models were prepared as follows. Model I : Kratochvil type guiding plane with $90^{\circ}$ to residual ridge Model II : Kratochvil type guiding plane with $95^{\circ}$ to residual ridge Model III : Kratochvil type guiding plane with $100^{\circ}$ to residual ridge Model IV : Krol type guiding plane with $90^{\circ}$ to residual ridge Distal extension partial denture which right mandibular first and second molar were lost was used and the second premolar was prepared as primary abutment with RPI type retainer. Then 150N of compressive force was applied to central fossae of the first and second molars and von Mises stress and displacement were measured. The results were as follows 1. Model I and Model IV showed a similar stress distribution pattern and the stress was concentrated on the apex of the root of the abutment. 2. The stress was increased and concentrated on mesial side of the root of the abutment in Model II. The stress was concentrated on buccal and mesiobuccal side of the root of the abutment in Model IV. 3. In Model I, the root of the abutment displaced and twisted a little in clockwise. In Model IV, the root of the abutment displaced to distolingually at apical region of the root and mesiobuccally at cervical region of the root. 4. In Model II, the root of the abutment displaced to mesiolingually at apical region of the root and more displaced and twisted in counterclockwise at cervical region of the root. In Model III, the root of the abutment displaced to mesiobucally at apical region of the root and more displaced and twisted in clockwise at cervical region of the root.
Statement of problem: Pier abutments act as a Class I fulcrum lever system when the teeth are incorporated in a fixed partial denture with rigid connectors. Therefore non-rigid connector incorporated into the fixed partial denture might reduce the stresses created by the leverage. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate, by means of finite element method, the effects of non-rigid connectors and supporting alveolar bone level on stress distribution for fixed partial dentures with pier abutments. Material and methods: A 2-dimensional finite element model simulating a 5-unit metal ceramic fixed partial denture with a pier abutment with rigid or non-rigid designs, the connector was located at the distal region of the second premolar, was developed. In the model, the lower canine, second premolar, and second molar served as abutments. Four types of alveolar bone condition were employed. One was normal bone condition and others were supporting bone reduced 20% height at one abutment. Two different loading conditions, each 150 N on 1st premolar and 1st molar and 300N on 1st molar, were used. Results: Two types of FPD were displaced apically. The amount of displacement decreased in an almost linear slope away from the loaded point. Non-rigid design tended to cause the higher stresses in supporting bone of premolar and molar abutments and the lower stresses in that of canine than rigid design. Alveolar bone loss increased the stresses in supporting bone of corresponding abutment. Conclusion: Careful evaluation of the retentive capacity of retainers and the periodontal condition of abutments may be required for the prosthetic design of fixed partial denture with a pier abutment.

Chemoradiation therapy used on pediatric oncology patients often causes dental developmental anomalies that affect future dental care. Defects noted include tooth and root agenesis, root thining and shortening, and localized enamel defects. The effect of radiotherapy usually are confined to the radiation site, but the effects of chemotherapy may be more wide spread because of its systemic distribution and structures and organs unrelated to the primary tumor may be affected. Many pediatric cancers are treated with a combination of radiation and multiagent chemotherapy to create synergic and additive effects. Dental treatment affected by chemoradiation damage to developing teeth includes orthodontic tooth movement, prosthetic abutment considerations, periodontal health, space maintenance, requirements for home fluoride regimens to protect hypomineralized areas, restoration options for hypoplastic/hypomineralized teeth, and endodontic procedures. The following case demonstrate chemoradiation therapy effects on the dental development.
The purpose of this study was to find out and evaluate discrepancies between preorthodontic prediction values and actual postorthodontic values and factors contributing to it in 45 patients(17 male, 28 female) who were diagnosed as skeletal Class III ma)occlusion and received presurgical orthodontic treatment and orthognathic surgery at Yonsei university dental hospital. Lateral cephalograms were analysed at pretreatment(T1), orthodontic Prediction(T2), immediately before surgery(T3) and designated the landmark as coordinates or X and Y axes. The samples were divided according to ALD, upper and lower incisor inclination(Ul to SN, IMPA), COS, extraction, the position of extracted teeth and the statistical significance was tested to find out the factors contributing to the prediction. The results were as follows: 1. Differences between preorthodontic prediction values and actual postorthodontic values(T2-T3) were statistically significant(p<0.05) in the x coordinates of U6mbc, L1x and in y coordinates of U1i, U1x, U6me, U6mbc, L6mbc 2. The accuracy of prediction is relatively higher in horizontal changes compared to vortical changes. 3. The statistical significance(p<0.05) between prediction and actual values is observed more in the landmarks of the maxilla than the mandible. 4. Differences between prediction and actual values of incisor and first molar were statistically significant(p<0.05) according to extraction vs non-extraction, extraction type, ALD in the maxilla and according to ALD, IMPA in the mandible. Discrepancies between preorthodontic prediction values and actual postorthodontic values and factors contributing to the prediction must be considered in treatment planning of Cl III surgical patients to increase the accuracy of prediction. Furthermore future investigations are needed on the prediction of vortical changes.
The C-shaped canal system is an anatomical variation mostly seen in mandibular second molars, although it can also occur in maxillary and other mandibular molars. The main anatomical feature of C-shaped canals is the presence of fins or web connecting the individual root canals. The complexity of C-shaped canals prevents these canals from being cleaned, shaped, and obturated effectively during root canal therapy, and sometimes it leads to an iatrogenic perforation from the extravagant preparation. The purpose of this study was to provide further knowledge of the anatomical configuration and the minimal thickness of dentinal wall according to the level of the root. Thirty extracted mandibular second molars with fused roots and longitudinal grooves on lingual or buccal surface of the root were collected from a native Korean population. The photo images and radiographs from buccal, lingual, apical direction were taken. After access cavity was prepared, teeth were placed in 5.25% sodium hypochlorite solution for 2 hours to dissolve the organic tissue of the root surface and from the root canal system. After bench dried and all the teeth were embedded in a self-curing resin. Each block was sectioned using a microtome (Accutom-50, Struers, Denmark) at interval of 1 mm. The sectioned surface photograph was taken using a digital camera (Coolpix 995, Nikon, Japan) connected to the microscope. 197 images were evaluated for canal configurations and the minimal thickness of dentinal wall between canal and external wall using 'Root Thickness Gauge Program' designed with Visual Basic. The results were as follows : 1. At the orifice level of all teeth, the most frequent observed configuration was Melton's Type C I (73%), however the patterns were changed to type C II and C III when the sections were observed at the apical third. On the other hand, the type C III was observed at the orifice level of only 2 teeth but this type could be seen at apical region of the rest of the teeth. 2. The C-shaped canal showed continuous and semi-colon shape at the orifice level, but at the apical portion of the canal there was high possibility of having 2 or 3 canals 3. Lingual wall was thinner than buccal wall at coronal, middle, apical thirds of root but there was no statistical differences.
Recently several techniques have been reported for the treatment of anterior open bite in adults characterized by molar intrusion with skeletal anchorage. In this study, five adult patients who had anterior open bite malocclusion were selected to undergo upper molar intrusion with midpalatal miniscrew to close the open bite. The aim of this study is (1) to validate true intrusion of molars in adults (2) to test the usefullness of midpalatal miniscrews as anchorage for intruding upper molars (3) to evaluate the skeletal and dental changes of open bite closure. The results are as follows. (1) All had true intrusion of the maxillary molars. Mean amount of molar intrusion was 3.4mm(range 1.5-5mm). (2) No movement of midpalatal miniscrew occurred during their use. (3) Open bite closure was achieved for all 5 patients. The mandible closed and B-point rotated anteriorly and upward. The mandibular plane angle and the occlusal plane angle decreased.
This study was designed to recognize the factors which can affect the normal eruption of the lower third molar and the eruption rate of the lower third molar in the cases of non-extraction and the extraction of first premolar. The sample consisted of 214 cases of extraction of first premolar and 119 cases of non-extraction, and all of these cases were divided into erupted and impacted lower third molar groups and were analized according to the pantomogram. The results of the study were as follows : 1. The eruption rate of the touter third molar was $54.67\%$ in the group of extraction of the first premolar and $35.29\%$ in the non-extraction group. 2. The early inclination of the erupting lower third molar has significant effect in the eruption of it. 3. In the orthodontic treatment, the extraction of first premolar is one of the factors infuencing the nomal eruption of lower third molar. 4. The available space for the normal enruption of lower third molar was greater in first premolar extraction case than in non-extraction case.
