  • A low cost solution employing harmonic oscillation to the frequency synthesizer at 5.8 ㎓ is proposed. The proposed frequency synthesizer is composed of 2.9 ㎓ PLL chip, 2.9 ㎓ oscillator, and 5.8 ㎓ buffer amplifier The measured data shows a frequency Outing range of 290 ㎒, ranging from 5.65 to 5.94 ㎓ about 0.5 ㏈m of output power, and a phase noise of -107.67 ㏈c/㎐ at the 100 ㎑ offset frequency. All spurious signals including fundamental oscillation power(2.9 ㎓) are suppressed at least 15 ㏈c than the desired second harmonic signal.

  • Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) has been used to measure and monitor plant growth, vegetation cover, and biomass from multispectral satellite data. It is also a valuable index in forest applications, providing forest resource information. In this research, an approach for monitoring forest change using MODIS NDVI time series data is explored. NDVI difference-based approaches for a specific point in time have possible accuracy problems and are lacking in monitoring long-term forest cover change. It means that a multi-time NDVI pattern change needs to be considered. In this study, an efficient methodology to consider long-term NDVI pattern is suggested using a harmonic model. The suggested method reconstructs MODIS NDVI time series data through application of the harmonic model, which corrects missing and erroneous data. Then NDVI pattern is analyzed based on estimated values of the harmonic model. The suggested method was applied to 49 NDVI time series data from Aug. 21, 2009 to Sep. 6, 2011 and its usefulness was shown through an experiment.

  • We have implemented a highly efficient 2.14-GHz class-F amplifier using Freescale 4-W peak envelope power(PEP) RF Si lateral diffusion metal-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistor(LDMOSFET). Because the control of the all harmonic contents is very difficult, we have managed only the $2^{nd}\;and\;3^{rd}$ harmonics to obtain the high efficiency with simple harmonic control circuit. In order to design the harmonic control circuit accurately, we extracted the bonding wire inductance and drain-source capacitance which are dominant parasitic and package effect components of the device. And then, we have fabricated the class-F amplifier. The measured drain and power-added efficiency are 65.1 % and 60,3 %, respectively.

  • Mesh parameterization is the process of finding one-to-one mapping between an input mesh and a parametric domain. It has been considered as a fundamental tool for digital geometric processing which is required to develop several applications of digital geometries. In this paper, we propose a novel 3D volume parameterization by means that a harmonic mapping is established between a 3D volume mesh and a unit solid cube. To do that, we firstly partition the boundary of the given 3D volume mesh into the six different rectangular patches whose adjacencies are topologically identical to those of a surface cube. Based on the partitioning result, we compute the boundary condition as a precondition for computing a volume mesh parameterization. Finally, the volume mesh parameterization with a low-distortion can be accomplished by performing a harmonic mapping, which minimizes the harmonic energy, with satisfying the boundary condition. Experimental results show that our method is efficient enough to compute 3D volume mesh parameterization for several models, each of whose topology is identical to a solid sphere.

  • The acoustic signal from a distance sound source in an enclosed space often produces reverberant sound that varies depending on room impulse response. The estimation of the level of reverberation or the quality of the observed signal is important because it provides valuable information on the condition of system operating environment. It is also useful for designing a dereverberation system. This paper proposes a speech quality estimation method based on the harmonicity of received signal, a unique characteristic of voiced speech. At first, we show that the harmonic signal modeling to a reverberant signal is reasonable. Then, the ratio between the harmonically modeled signal and the estimated non-harmonic signal is used as a measure of standard room acoustical parameter, which is related to speech clarity. Experimental results show that the proposed method successfully estimates speech quality when the reverberation time varies from 0.2s to 1.0s. Finally, we confirm the superiority of the proposed method in both background noise and reverberant environments.

  • In DC/DC converter and VVVF inverter, which are the must dominant noise sources of Maglev train, noise is radiated from core and coil excited by MS(Magnetostriction). The main noise source of DC/DC converter is transformer whose spectrum shows strong peaks associated with harmonics of exciting frequency, On the other hand, LIM/VVVF noise is dominated by the harmonics of switching frequency, whereas harmonics of exciting frequency are not significant. As switching frequency is increased in VVVF inverter, it is shown that the harmonics are shifted to higher frequency range. If switching frequency is increased from 700㎐ to 2 ㎑, It is measured that noise can be reduced by 5 to 6 ㏈. Since complete mathematical description of MS phenomena is far beyond the present technology, vibration spectrum is investigated qualitatively in this paper, where effect of increasing switching frequency is confirmed.

  • The surface parameters associated with the land are usually dependent on the climate, and many physical processes that are displayed in the image sensed from the land then exhibit temporal variation with seasonal periodicity. An adaptive feedback system proposed in this study reconstructs a sequence of images remotely sensed from the land surface having the physical processes with seasonal periodicity. The harmonic model is used to track seasonal variation through time, and a Gibbs random field (GRF) is used to represent the spatial dependency of digital image processes. In this study, the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) was computed for one week composites of the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) imagery over the Korean peninsula for 1996 and 2000 using a dynamic technique, and the adaptive reconstruction of harmonic model was then applied to the NDVI time series for tracking changes on the ground surface. The results show that the adaptive approach is potentially very effective for continuously monitoring changes on near-real time.

  • Irregular temporal sampling is a common feature of geophysical and biological time series in remote sensing. This study proposes an on-line system for reconstructing observation image series including bad or missing observation that result from mechanical problems or sensing environmental condition. • In this paper, we propose a packet loss concealment (PLC) algorithm using pitch harmonic motion prediction and adaptive signal amplitude prediction and. The spectral motion prediction method divides the spectral motion of the previous usable frame into predetermined sub-bands to predict and restore the motion of the lost signal. In the proposed algorithm, the speech signal is classified into voiced and unvoiced sounds. In the case of voiced sounds, it is further divided into pitch harmonics using the pitch frequency to predict and restore the pitch harmonic motion of the lost frame, and for the unvoiced sound, the lost frame is restored using the spectral motion prediction method. When the continuous loss of speech frames occurs, a method of adjusting the gain using the least mean square (LMS) predictor is proposed. The performance of the proposed algorithm was evaluated through the objective evaluation method, PESQ (Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality) and was showed MOS 0.1 improvement over the conventional method.
