The Effect of Inside and Outside Fluids on the Optimization of a Reversed Trapezoidal Fin (역 사다리꼴 핀의 최적화에 미치는 내 외 유체의 영향)

  • A reversed trapezoidal fin with variable lateral surface slope is optimized using a two-dimensional analytic method. For a fin base boundary condition, convection from the inside fluid to the inside wall and conduction from the inside wall to the fin base are considered. Heat loss from the fin tip surface is not ignored. The maximum heat loss at the practical fin length, the corresponding optimum fin efficiency, fin length and fin base height are presented as a function of the fin inside and outside convection characteristic numbers. One of the results shows that the optimum fin shape becomes 'fatter and shorter' as the ratio of fin tip height to base height increases.

  • A rectangular fin with variable fin height, fin length and surrounding temperature is analyzed using a one-dimensional analytical method. Both the heat loss from a rectangular fin with non-insulated fin tip and that with insulated fin tip are presented as a function of the fin height, fin tip length and the convection characteristic number. The relative error in the heat loss of these two cases is also given as a function of the same variables. One of the results shows that the trend of heat loss for both cases with the variation of given variables is similar even though the relative error increases as the shape of the fin becomes shorter and fatter.

  • The temperature distribution of an asymmetric trapezoidal fin with various upper lateral surface slopes is investigated by using the two-dimensional analytic method. For this asymmetric fin, convection from the inner fluid to the inner wall, conduction from the inner wall to the fin base and conduction through the fin base are considered simultaneously. The temperature profile with the variation of dimensionless fin length and height coordinates is shown. Also, the temperature variation at the bottom tip of the fin is presented as a function of the fin shape factor. Heat losses through the fin base and from each side are compared for variations in fin length. One of the results shows that temperature at the fin bottom tip decreases linearly as the fin shape factor increases.

  • The non-dimensional heat loss from a thermally asymmetric triangular fin is investigated as a function of a ratio of upper and lower surface Biot numbers (Bi2/Bi1), the non-dimensional fin length and tip surface Biot number using the two-dimensional separation of variables method. The effect of fin tip surface Biot number on the variation of the non-dimensional temperature along the sloped upper and lower surfaces for the thermally asymmetric condition is presented. The relationship between the non-dimensional fin length and the fin tip surface Biot number for equal amount of heat loss is also discussed as well as the relationship between upper surface Biot number and tip surface Biot number for equal amount of heat loss.

  • 본 발표에서는 최근 과학계에서 대두되어 전 세계적으로 폭발적인 연구가 수행되고 있는 신소재 그래핀에 대한 전반적인 소개와 현재 동향 및 미래 응용가능성에 대해 언급하고자 한다. 그래핀 연구관련 다양한 분야가 있으나, 본 세미나에서는 CVD로 합성하는 방법에 대한 개념 그리고 합성한 대면적 그래핀의 다양한 응용 분야들과 본인이 수행했던 연구결과물들을 몇 가지 소개하고자 한다. 구체적인 내용으로는 CVD에 의한 대면적 그래핀의 합성, 합성된 그래핀의 전사 및 패터닝 공정, CVD 그래핀의 도핑 및 다양한 물성분석, 그리고 그래핀 파이버, 히터 및 태양전지 응용 연구 등이다. 특히, 그래핀의 연구에 있어서 가장 중요한 이슈가 아주 품질이 좋은 그래핀 시료를 준비하는 것인데, 이는 좋은 그래핀을 합성해야 하는 것은 물론이고, 깨끗한 전사공정이 수반되어야 가능하다. 따라서 깨끗한 전사공정을 통해 품질 좋은 그래핀을 준비하는 상세한 과정들과 이에 대한 결과물들을 언급하겠다. 이어서 최근에는 CVD 방법에 의한 질소원자가 도핑된 그래핀의 직접 합성을 시도하였고, 이렇게 도핑된 그래핀 시료에 대해, 다양한 분석 장비들(Raman, STM, XPS & XAS)을 이용하여 기초물성들을 측정하고 비교 분석하였다. 끝으로 최근에 수행중인 그래핀과 기타 다른 나노소재(VO2, h-BN etc.)들과 접목된 hybrid 나노소재 연구에 대한 내용을 간략히 소개하고 발표를 마무리하겠다.

  • A trapezoidal fin with various lateral surface slopes is designed optimally by using one-dimensional analytic method. For four different convection characteristic numbers, the trend of heat loss as a function of fin tip length is shown. The optimum heat loss is somewhat arbitrarily chosen as 92% of the maximum heat loss. The optimum fin length corresponding to this optimum heat loss versus convection characteristic number is presented. The optimum effectiveness and specific effectiveness is presented as a function fin shape factor.

The Effect of Fin Tip on the Triangular Fin (삼각핀에 대한 핀끝의 영향)

  • Two dimensional analysis on the triangular fin for both the insulated fin tip and non-insulated fin tip and one dimensional analysis on that when the temperature of the fin tip is finite are made. The effect of the fin tip is shown by comparing the heat loss from the fin and the temperature along the fin length varing the non-dimensional fin length and Biot number for each three cases. The results are following. When the non-dimensional fin length is very short, the relative error of the heat loss from the fin with insulated fin tip to that from the fin with non-insulated fin tip is very high. The value of the temperature variation along the non-dimensional fin length is minimum for the finite fin tip temperature using one dimensional analysis and is maximum for the insulated fin tip using two dimensional anaysis.

Heat loss and fin efficiency are represented as a function of the fin base thickness, base height, inner fluid convection characteristic number, fin tip length and fin shape factor. One of the results shows that heat loss increases while fin efficiency decreases as the fin shape factor increases.

  • 학교 교사의 끝, 길고 좁은 골마루의 끝부분, 보일러실의 옆, 1층이라고 하지만 반 지하, 굳게 잠겨 있는 자물쇠, 출입문을 열면 학교도서관(교실 두 칸 정도 규모의 도서실이지만 학교도서관이라고 통칭하자.)은 모습을 드러낸다. 코를 자극하는 오랜 된 책 냄새, 잔뜩 쌓인 먼지, 여기저기 흩어져 있는 책, 훼손된 책, 여름 장맛비에 잠겼다가 말라서 부풀어 오른 책, 곰팡이 핀 책, 어떻게 분류해 놓은 것인지 도저히 알 수 없는 서가배열, 어디서부터 손을 대어야 좋은지 모를 곳, 이런 곳이 학교도서관의 주소였다. 그런 학교도서관을 새 단장하는 일이 대부분 비정규직 사서교사의 몫이다.

Local Convective Mass Transfer and Flow Structure Around a Circular Cylinder with Annular Fins (환상핀이 부착된 원봉 주위의 3차원 박리 유동구조 및 물질전달 특성 해석)

  • Extensive experiments were carried out to investigate the mass transfer and flow structures around a circular cylinder with annular fins in crossflow. The naphthalene sublimation method was employed to measure the circumferential and longitudinal variations of mass transfer from the circular cylinder between annular fins and H is the height of the fin from the cylinder surface. A remarkable enhancement of mass transfer due to the horseshoe vortices was observed near the corner junction between the annular fin and circular cylinder. The present results indicate that the local circumferential Sherwood number shows the higher values on the front stagnation point. The maximum augmentation of mass transfer rate at the center of cylinder is found near L/H-0.15 due to the separation bubble along the annular fins. The secondary flows, which are the corner vortices V2 and V3 near the end wall of the annular fin, are fairly predicted from the distributions of local Sherwood number in the spanwise direction. The average Sherwood number of overall surface at L/H=0.15 is larger 2.0 times than that of without annualr fins. The correlations of total average mass transfer rate with L/H and Re$_{L}$ can also be obtained.d.
