This study was conducted to determine injury symptoms of orchids by sulfur dioxide gases, three orchid plants (Phalaenopsis, Cymbidium, Oncidium) were exposed to sulfur dioxide gas in an enclosed growth chambers. Sulfur dioxide gases treatments consist of five different concentrations (0, 5, 10 25, and 50 ppm) and plant exposure of 18 hours with $25{\pm}5^{\circ}C$ air temperature and $50{\pm}5%$ relative humidity. SPAD values for chlorophyll content and percent leaf injury as well as leaf ion exudation were measured before and after the gas treatments. Phalaenopsis leaves showed 23.3% leaf injury at 10 ppm sulfur dioxide gas, whereas Cymbidium and Oncidium showed 4.0 and 4.4% leaf injury under 25 ppm or less, respectively. Major leaf injury symptoms appeared as initial water-soaking under side of the leaf, followed by rapidly progressed complete leaf discolorization or chlorosis. As the gas concentration increased, the SPAD value decreased while ion exudation increased. Cymbidium and Oncidium were resistant to sulfur dioxide gas than Phalaenopsis.

유난히 길었떤 장마 끝이 지나가고 여름철 무더위도 한풀 꺾였다. 이번 수해로 많은 피해를 입은 이웃들은 복구 작업에 아직도 구슬땀을 흘리고 있을 것이다. 여름철 무더위에 가장 조심해야 할 것은 고온에 의한 열손상이다. 여름철이면 흔히 '더위 먹었다'고 표현하는 사람들이 늘어난다. 주로 호소하는 증상은 피로감과 짜증, 무기력, 집중력 장애, 식육부진, 두통, 어지러움 등이다. 이러한 증상들은 다른 질병의 초기 증상일 가능성도 있지만 흔한 원인 중 하나가 바로 과로와 더위로 인한 신체리듬의 장애라고 할 수 있다. 이것을 일시적인 증상으로 자연 회복이 되는 경우도 있지만 반드시 적절한 도움을 받아야 하는 경우도 있다. 열경련, 열피로, 열사병 등 고온에 의한 열손상에 대해 알아보자.

Field experiments were carried out to find out effective chemicals and number and time of a chemical application for the control of the rice white-tip nematode, Aphelechoides besseyi, parasite on rice plant. Ethoprop and carbofuran were significantly effective to make increase as much as $19\%,\; or\; 260g/3.3m^2$ of unhulled grain yield. Application of carbofuran as soon as the white-tip symptom of the disease appears in field is recommended for the effective control of the disease.

육계를 사육하고 있는 농장에서 '저혈당증'은 이제 모르는 농가가 거의 없을 정도로 잘 알려진 용어가 되었다. 많은 농가가 이로 인한 피해를 경험하고 있거나 이와 유사한 증상이 있을 경우 가장 먼저 저혈당증을 의심할 정도로 인식이 확산되어 있다. 그러나 오히려 이러한 인식의 확대가 증상이 유사하다는 것만으로 저혈당증으로 판단하여 그보다 더 심각한 피해요인을 간과하는 경우도 많고, 그 치료 방법도 어떤 지역이나 농가에 따라 매우 다양하여 오히려 피해를 가중시키는 경우도 있다. 따라서 본고는 크게 두 가지로 구분하여 저혈당증에 대한 이해를 돕고자 한다. 첫째는 지난해에 저혈당증으로 진단되었던 가검물을 기초로 하여 저혈당증에 대하여 알아보고, 둘째는 2001년 올해 현재까지 저혈당증을 의심하여 의뢰되었던 가검물에 대하여 고찰해 봄으로써 저혈당증에 대한 올바른 접근을 유도하고자 한다. (저혈당증과 관련하여 저혈당-급성폐사증후군(HSMS : Hypoglycemia-Spiking Mortaility Synotrome : HSMS)이라는 명칭이 사용되고 있으나 본고에서는 '저혈당증'으로 하였다.)

근래에 발생되는 사육가축들의 질병발생 양상이 단독감염에 의한 것 보다 복합감염에 의한 발생이 많아지고 있고 치료기간도 길어지며 폐사하는경우도 종종 있어 피해도 점차 커지는 실정이다. 특히 송아지에서는 BVD와 다른 세균 또는 곰팡이 등과 복합감염되면 호흡기증상이나 소화기 증상이 매우 심하게 나타나는 경향이 있어 주의를 요하게 된다. 이번에 소개하는 예는 농가에서 사육하던 한우 17두가 BVD에 감염된 상태에서 곰팡이에 오염된 볏짚을 급여하여 심한 설사와

국내 축산관련 분야의 많은 기관과 단체들이 많은 인력과 예산을 투여하여 돼지콜레라 청정화 유지를 위해 노력하였으나 불행하게도 지난 2002년에는 철원에 이어 강화, 인천, 김포, 이천 등지에서 발생하여 양돈업계에 큰 피해를 준 바 있다. 이중 철원에서 발생된 돼지콜레라 바이러스의 병원성시험을 실시한 결과 전형적인 급성 돼지콜레라증상이 재현되어 임상증상과 병리소견을 개업수의사와 양돈관련자에게 홍보코자 한다.

This study was carried out to investigate the effects of air temperature during midsummer on sunburn occurrence that had some problems recently on 'Fuji'/M.9 planting system in Korea. There was a positive relationship between sunburn incidence and accumulated days with high air temperature over $31^{\circ}C$, or accumulated total quantum per day. 'Fuji'/M.9 apple trees with relatively open canopies, compared to 'Fuji'/M.26, were more susceptible to sunburn injury because the fruit was more exposed to sunlight. In 'Fuji'/M.9 apple trees, those that were poor in vigor or with short bourse shoot length were more susceptible to sunburn injury. Sunburn incidence was affected by neither regions nor row orientations. Sunburn was observed most often on the fruits on the south and west sides of the trees. The reason was due to high skin temperature of the fruits reaching $40{\sim}45^{\circ}C$ under full sunlight.

종계 생산성에 문제를 일으키고 병아리의 증체를 더디게 하는 면역 억제성 질병들 중에 곰팡이가 일으키는 질병들이 있다. 한 동안 원인을 알 수 없었던 여러 가지 면역 억제 증상과 피해에 대해 그 동안 여러 가지 질병이 의심을 받아왔다. 곰팡이로 인한 질병도 그 중 하나이다. 아직까지 국내에서는 간혹 발생하는 것으로 여겨지고 있는 곰팡이로 인한 피해와 대책은 무엇이 있는지 간략히 살펴보았다.
