  • Using DG for peak-shaving unit could reduce the overall system operating cost, and using DG for standby power unit could improve the reliability of the distribution system The models of peak-shaving unit and standby power unit are different from each other. The Monte-Carlo simulation is suitable for the purpose of the analysis of two DG models. In this paper, the reliability indices are calculated from the time-sequential method, and the merit and defect of the peak-shaving unit and standby power unit are investigated.

  • It is very difficult to get stable ion peak intensity of ruthenium by thermal ionization mass spectrometry because of its high ionization potential and high volatility of its oxides which causes to lose much of ruthenium ions, so the intensity of the signal decrease quickly. Accordingly, a study was performed in oder to increase the ionization efficiency and to prevent sample losses due to volatilization and to check with isobaric effect by impurities in filament for the measurement of ruthenium isotopes. Both single filament and double filament were tested. The former was proved to be more efficient for the stable and strong intensity of signal and revealed less isobaric effect from the molybdenum (Mo) as a filament impurity. Also, when the temperature of filament increased too high, the isobaric effect from Mo greatly appeared. That is, Mo impurity from filament gave a serious effect for measuring the ruthenium isotopes. It was proved to be of importance that filament current should be slowly increased with time interval. Finally, ruthenium isotopes were accurately measured by correction with measuring $^{94}Mo/^{99}Ru$.

  • Differential-pulse cathodic stripping voltammetry was applied to the Sn(II)-cupferron complex in 0.1 M acetate buffer solution (pH 4.20). Effects of solution pH, ligand concentration, accumulation potential, and accumulation time on the reduction peak current for the adsorptive complex of Sn(II)-cupferron were investigated. Interferences by other metal cations that affected on reduction peak current were also discussed. The detection limit was 3.1${\times}$10-9 M (0.37 ppb) of Sn(II) with 60 seconds accumulation time. The relative standard deviation (n=8) for 5${\times}$10-8 M Sn(II) was 3.0%.

  • To investigate the effect of the weathering process of biotite on Cs sorption, sorption experiment of Cs with $10^{-3}M$ solution was carried out on the biotite reacted at different reaction times at pH 2 and 4, and 1 M solutions of Na, K, Ca, Mg, Rb, and Cs. Peak changes were observed for some samples by XRD, indicating that new mineral phase formed by biotite weathering. Among several factors, cations in solutions have the most significant influence on the mineralogical changes. The samples reacted with Na showed the most outstanding change with increasing peak width and appearance of $12{\AA}$ peak and $14{\AA}$ peak. This new peaks indicate the formation of hydrobiotite and vermiculite. The new peaks had stronger peak intensity for the sample reacted at pH 4 than that at pH 2, probably due to the fast dissolution of small particles and edges and resultant decrease in the formation of expandable layers. The biotite reacted at Mg solution showed small intensity at $14{\AA}$. Based on XRD results, the degree of biotite weathering was in the order of Na, Mg, and Ca. The samples reacted with K, Rb, Cs solutions did not show noticeable mineralogical changes caused by weathering. The amount of sorbed Cs on weathered biotite showed close relationship with the degree of weathering indicated by XRD. At both pH 2 and 4, the biotite reacted with Na solution showed the highest Cs sorption, and those with Mg and Ca solutions showed the next highest ones. The sorbed amounts of Cs on the bitote reacted with K, Rb, Cs solutions were relatively low. This indicates that at the Cs concentration ($10^{-3}M$) which we used for this experiment and which was much higher than the maximum Cs concentration sorbed on the frayed edge site, expandable layer plays more important role than frayed edge. In the cases of K, Rb, and Cs solutions, Cs sorption was decreased because K is the same cations as the one in the interlayer or the sorption of Rb and Cs on the frayed edge prevents the formation of expandable layers.

  • Fifteen min-microtremor data sets were collected at 136 sites from a coastal area of Kunsan and 117 sites from an inland area of Jeonju located in SW Korea, and were analyzed for the HVSR (Horizontal to Vertical Spectral Ratio) of the sites. The microtremor spectra of the coastal area have stronger energy in the lower frequency range from 1-6 Hz than those of the coastal area. This result can be attributed to the effect of the waves and tides in the Keum river and the Yellow sea. Twenty four hours of measurement of the microtremor indicated that the microtremor spectrum correlates with the human activities, but the microtremor HVSR peak was observed consistently at the characteristic frequency for the site. The HVSR peaks were grouped into 4 types -"single peak", "double peak", "broad peak" or "no peak"- based on their shapes. More than 90% of the data sets exhibit peak frequencies ($F_0$) which can be easily identified. The distribution of $F_0$ reveals a close relationship with the topography and local geology of the areas, exhibiting high F0s in the hillside areas and low $F_0s$ in the reclaimed land area. While the amplitudes of microtremor HVSR peak frequencies are less than 4 in the downstream of the inland area, those of the recently reclaimed land in the coastal area are extremely high (more than 10). The results of this study indicate that detailed HVSR studies are essential for the earthquake hazard reduction of reclaimed lands.

  • In this study, the effects of growth temperature on structural and optical properties of hydrothermally grown ZnO nanorod arrays have been investigated. Zinc nitrate ($Zn(NO_3)_2$) and hexamethylenetetramine were used as precursors. The ZnO buffered Si(100) with a thickness of 40 nm was used as the substrates. The ZnO nanorods were grown on these substrates with the temperature ranging from 55 to $115^{\circ}C$. The results were characterized by scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction and room temperature photoluminescence measurements. Well-aligned ZnO nanorods arrays were obtained from all samples. The tips of nanorods were flat when the temperature was less than $95^{\circ}C$, and the sharp-tip nanoneedle-like morphologies were obtained with the temperature of $115^{\circ}C$. In addition, some bundles were on the nanorods arrays with $115^{\circ}C$ due to the non-equilibrium growth. The growth temperature could affect the crystal and optical properties of ZnO. For the effects on crystal properties, the intensity of (002) peak was increased as the temperature was increased to $75^{\circ}C$, then decreased as the temperature was further increased to $115^{\circ}C$. As for the effects on optical properties, the intensity ratio of UV peak to visible peak is increased with the temperature increasing and the strongest UV peak intensity was obtained with the growth temperature of $95^{\circ}C$.

  • Based on the actual shape of the detector and the data provided by the manufacturer, the shape of the detector was implemented through Penelope simulation and applied to the appropriate four-layer thickness based on the efficiency obtained from the measurements. Efficiency calculations to determine the effect of the simulated number of Full Energy Peak Efficiency(FEPE) channels in the detector and the outside contact layer in the crystal on the Full Energy Peak Efficiency were performed for various four-layer thicknesses of 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, 1.0, 1.2, and 1.4 mm using the Penelope Code. When the thickness of the external contact layer was increased by 5 times, the Full Energy Peak Efficiency decreased by about 36% for 59.50 keV, and the Full Energy Peak Efficiency decreased by 10% for 1836. In addition, as it increased by 10 times, the Full Energy Peak Efficiency decreased by about 20% for 59.54 keV, and 7% for 1836.01 keV. The Penelope simulated Full Energy Peak Efficiency channel decreases exponentially with the increase in the four layers. In addition, it was confirmed that the total effect curve was well matched with a relative difference of less than 3.5% in the 0.3-1.4 mm dead layer thickness region. However, it was found that the inhomogeneous dead layer is still a parameter in the Monte Carlo model.

  • The phosphorescence powder, $SrA1_2O_4:Eu^{2+}$, synthesized by a Polymerized Complex Method(PCM), has been compared with that by a Solid-State Reaction(SSR), and their luminescence characteristics have been studied. The PCM powders were synthesized at $900^{\circ}C$ and the SSR powders at $1200^{\circ}C$. The size of PCM powders was about $0.1{\mu}m$ and one tenth of that of the SSR powders, which was due to the lower synthesized temperature. On the other hand, residual carbon in the PCM powders decreased with an increase in the crystallinity of host lattice, which was responsible for the non-white color of the powders. Both powders showed the maximum luminescence peaks around 520nm in the wave length at room temperature. However, the peak position for the PCM powders was shifted to a slightly lower wavelength and the value of half-width of the peak was broad comparing to that of the SSR powders, and the peak intensity decreased significantly. Such a change in the luminescence characteristics was due to the large difference in size for two types of powders and partly the residual carbon in the PCM powders.
