On A Reduction of Pitch Searching Time by Preprocessing in the CELP Vocoder (CELP 보코더에서 전처리에 의한 피치검색 시간의 단축)

  • Code Excited Linear Prediction(CELP) speech coders exhibit good performance at data rates below 4.8 kbps. This major drawback of CELP type coders is required much computation. In this paper, we propose a new pitch search method that preserves the quality of the CELP vocoder with reducing complexity. In the pitch searching, we detect the segments of high correlation by a simple preprocessing, and then carry out the pitch searching only for the segments obtained by the preprocessing. By using the proposed method, we can get approximately $77\%$ complexity reduction in the pitch search.

  • The aerodynamic power and torque of wind turbines are extremely nonlinear. Therefore, the overall dynamic behavior of a wind turbine exhibits nonlinear characteristics that are dependent on the magnitude of the wind speed. The nonlinear aerodynamic characteristics of the wind turbine also affect the characteristics of the control system of the wind turbine. Therefore, the analysis of the nonlinear aerodynamic characteristics of wind turbine is essential in designing the wind-turbine controller. In this study, the nonlinear aerodynamic characteristics and the effects of these characteristics on the closed-loop pitch system with PI controller for an 1-mass model of the wind turbine are investigated above rated power.

A Study on Extraction of Pitch and TSIUVC in Continuous Speech (연속음성신호에서 피치와 TSIUVC 추출에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, I propose a new extraction method Pitch Pulse and TSIUVC in continuous speech, The TSIUVC searching and extraction method is based on a zero-crossing rate and individual Pitch Pulse extraction method using FIR-STREAK filter. As a result, the extraction rate of individual pitch pulses was $96{\%}$ for male voice and $85{\%}$ for female voice respectively. The TSIUVC extraction rates are $94.9{\%}$ under $88{\%}$ for male voice and $94.9{\%}$ under $84.8{\%}$ for female voice. This method has the capability of being applied to a new speech coding of Voiced/Silence/TSIUVC, speech analysis and speech synthesis.

Design of a Variable half rate speech codec (가변율 half rate 음성 부호화기의 설계)

  • 본 논문에서는 다양한 멀티미디어 서비스를 위해 가변율 half rate 음성 부호화기를 설계하였다. 유, 무성음과 묵음의 구분을 위해 본 논문에서는 프레임 에너지와 음성 파라메터들을 이용한 효과적인 voicing 결정 알고리즘을 사용하였다. 유성음을 위한 half rate 음성 부호화기는 저속에서 좋은 특성을 보이는 generalized AbS구조를 이용하였다. LPC 계수는 LSP 계수로 변환한 후 predictive 2-stage VQ를 통해서 양자화하며, 여기 신호는 음질저하를 최소화하며 복잡도를 감소시킨 shift 방식의 대수적 고정 코드북 구조를 사용하고, 적응코드북과 여기코드북의 이득은 VQ로 양자화 하였다. 무성음을 위한 부호화기는 대부분이 유성음을 위한 부호화기와 동일하지만, 무성음에서는 피치간 상관도가 매우 낮으므로 피치 보간 방법을 사용하지 않고 개루프로 피치 lag를 찾은 후 전체 프레임에 사용한다. 1 kb/s 부호화기는 묵음 구간과 주변소음 구간에 사용되며 이 구간의 신호를 피치 성분이 미약한 주변소음들로 제한하고 이에 최적인 부음성 부호화기를 설계하였다. 최종적으로 완성된 가변율 half rate 부호화기는 voice activity factor(VAF)가 0.47인 시험음성에서 약 2.6 kb/s의 평균 전송률을 보였다. 주관적 음질 평가의 일환으로 IS-96 표준 코덱인 가변율 8 kb/s QCELP와 A-B preference 시험을 실시하였다. 시험 결과 평균전송률이 약 2배인 가변율 8 kb/s QCELP 보다 우수한 음질 성능을 보였다.

On a Pitch Alteration Technique in the V/UV Spectrum for High Quality Speech Synthesis Technique (고음질 합성방식용 V/UV 스펙트럼상의 피치변경법에 관한 연구)

  • Most waveform coding techniques attempt to reduce redundancy of speech signal while preserving the shape of the waveform. In speech synthesis, wavefrom coding methods are used to the synthesis by rule for high quality speech. However, it is difficult to apply the waveform coding to the synthesis by rule because the parameters of the wavefrom coding cannot be classified as either the excitation or the vocal tract parameters. The proposed method shows little spectrum distortion of 2.7% or less for 50% pitch changes. It also achieves smooth connection of wavefrom magnitudes among the frames by compensating the phase in time domain.

  • In this paper, real-time voice change method using pitch change technique is proposed to change one's voice to the other voice. For this purpose, sampling rate change method using DFT (Discrete Fourier Transform) method and time scale modification method using SOLA (Synchronized Overlap and Add) method is combined to change pitch. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed method, voice transformation experiments were conducted. Experimental results showed that original speech signal is changed to the other speech signal in which original speaker's identity is difficult to find. The system is implemented using TI TMS320C6711DSK board to verify the system runs in real time.

  • In this paper, we propose a controller gain based on model based design and implement the two-wheel inverted pendulum type robot using NXT Lego and RobotC language. Two-wheel inverted pendulum robot consists of NXT mindstorm, servo DC motor with encoder, gyro sensor, and accelerometer sensor. We measurement wheel angle using bulit-in encoder and calculate wheel angle speed using moving average method. Gyro measures body angular velocity and accelerometer measures body pitch angle. We calculate body angle with complementary filter using gyro and accelerometer sensor. The control gain is a weighted value for wheel angle, wheel angular velocity, body pitch angle, and body pich angular velocity, respectively. We experiment and observe the effect of two-wheel inverted pendulum with respect to change of control gains.

  • The waveform coding is concerned with simply preserving the wave shape of speech signal through a redundancy reduction process. In area of the speech synthesis, the waveform codings with high quality are mainly used to the synthesis by analysis. However, because the parameters of this coding are not classified as either excitation parameters and vocal tract parameters, it is difficult to applying the waveform coding to the synthesis by rule. In this paper, we proposed a new pitch alternation method that can change the pitch periods in the waveform coding by using the cepstrum analysis. Thus, it is possible that the waveform coding is carried out the synthesis by rule in speech processing.

  • Due to their periodic helical structure, cholesteric liquid crystals (CLC) have a unique ability to selectively reflect visible light. CLC films reflecting a broad wavelength band were prepared by inducing a pitch gradient in CLC layers through a diffusion of small molecules and through a thermal mixing of cyclic siloxane CLC molecules with different pitch lengths. Various pitch gradients in the CLC cell were observed using UV/Vis spectrometer and SEM technique.

  • 본 논문에서는 Text-to-Speech 시스템에서 사용할 억양 모델을 위해 음성 DB에서 모델 파라미터와 피치 검색테이블(lookup-table)을 추출하여 미리 구성하고, 합성시에는 이를 추정하여 최종 F0 값을 생성하는 자료기반 접근방식(data-driven approach)을 사용한다. 어절 경계강도(break-index)는 경계강도의 특성에 따라 고정적 경계강도와 가변적 경계강도로 세분화하여 사용하였고, 예측된 경계강도를 기준으로 억양구(Intonation Phrase)와 액센트구(Accentual Phrase)를 설정하였다. 특히, 액센트구 모델은 인지적, 음향적으로 중요한 정점(peak)을 정확하게 모델링하는 것에 주안점을 두어 정점(peak)의 시간축, 주파수축 값과 이를 기준으로 한 앞뒤 기울기를 추정하여 4개의 파라미터로 설정하였고, 이 파라미터들은 CART(Classification and Regression Tree)를 이용하여 예측규칙을 만들었다. 경계음조가 나타나는 조사, 어미는 정규화된(normalized) 피치값과 key-index로 구성되는 검색테이블을 만들어 보다 정교하게 피치값을 예측하였다. 본 논문에서 제안한 억양 모델을 본 연구실에서 제작한 음성합성기를 통해 합성하여 청취실험을 거친 결과, 기존의 상용 Text-to-Speech 시스템에 비해 자연스러운 합성음을 얻을 수 있었다.
