Life Prediction and Evaluation of Fracture Toughness of a Cr-Mo Degraded Steel During Long Service (장기 사용 Cr-Mo강 열화재의 파괴 인성 평가와 수명예측)

  • It has been increasingly recognized that the safety analysis considering fracture mechanics is required of the pressure vessels made of 2 1/4 Cr-1Mo steel for safe operation due to temper-embrittlement during long term service. In this study, the fracture toughnesses of degraded and recovered 2 1/4 Cr-1Mo steels have been studied with J$_{IC}$ test specimens at room temperature and the results will be compared with the data obtained from the Charpy impact test. The fracture toughness data from above experiments will be applied to life prediction based on the surface crack growth for degraded and recovered Cr-Mo pressure vessels.

  • 소화가 잘 안된다, 머리가 아프다, 자꾸 마른다 등등 현대인들은 사소함(?) 신체적 고통을 흔히 호소한다. 그리고는 소화제, 두통약, 피로회복제등을 수시로 입안으로 털어넣곤 한다. 그러면서도 이러한 증상을 병으로 생각하는 사람은 없다. 그저 일시적인 현상으로만 치부해 버리고 고통과 약의 사이를 왕래한다. 물론, 몸에 좋다는 모든 것을 먹어도 나이들어 몸이 말을 듣지 않는 것은 어쩔 수 없다하더라도 사소하다고 생각하는 증상들이 경우에 따라서는 엄청난 병의 시작일 수도 있다는 것을 주위에서 수없이 경험하는 우리가 아닌가. 도대체, 소화불량ㆍ노화현상ㆍ비만ㆍ두통 이런 증상들은 어디까지가 병이고, 어디까지가 일시적인 것일까.

Radioprotective Effect of Panax Ginseng in Mouse Bone-marrow (생쥐에서 방사선방호제로서의 인삼효과에 관한 연구)

  • Radiation protection by post-irradiation injection of the ginseng extract in mice was studied. Male ICR mice, 7 weeks old, were orally injected with ginseng extrat(100mg/kg) for 10 days, and with physiologocal saline as the control. Immediately after final injection, mice were whole body irradiated with 5.08Gy(Cs-137 ${\gamma}$-ray, central dose rate : 654Gy/h) which induced Bone marrow death. At 24h after irradiation, micronucleus test and metaphase analysis in bone-marrow were carried, blood cell were counted and the survival rate were carried for 30 days after the irradiation. Stimulated recovery by the extract was observed in thrombocyte count, but that phenomenom was not showed in the erythrocyte and leucocyte counts. The 30-day survival ratio was 5% and 65% for the control and experimental group. Frequencies of micronuclei per 1000 polychromatic erythrocytes were 79.5${\pm}$1.5 in experimental group, 185.9${\pm}$35.8 in control. And Abnormal chromosomes per 50 metaphases were 112 in experimental group and 143 in control.

In-vitro Hertzian Fatigue Behavior of Zirconia/Alumina Composites (지르코니아/알루미나 복합체의 In-vitro Hertzian 피로거동)

  • The degree of the indentation damage and strength degradation for 3Y-TZP ceramics and (Y,Nb)-TZP/$Al_2O_3$ dental implant composites was investigated under the Hertzian cyclic fatigue. Fatigue tests were conducted at contact loads of 500 to 3000 N and up to $10^6$ cycles in exact in vitro environments. At 500 N, no strength degradation and crack generation was observed up to $5{\times}10^5$ contact cycles. Fatigue properties of 3Y-TZP ceramics was superior to (Y,Nb)-TZP/ㅍ composites due to stress relief caused by the phase transformation from tettagonal to monoclinic phase. As contact load increased, the drastic reduction in strength was found when the damage transition from ring to radial crack occurred. The extent of strength degradation was more pronounced in vitro environments probably due to chemical corrosion of artificial saliva through cracks introduced during large numbers of contacts.

  • 최근에 고령화 사회에 접어들면서 건강하게 활동하며 수명을 다하는 것이 중요한 연구과제가 되고 있다. 이 때문에 영양, 운동, 스트레스, 환경 등과 관련하여 암, 당뇨병, 고혈압, 비만, 동맥경화 등 생활습관병의 극복이 사회문제가 되고 있는 실정이다. 지금까지 고려인삼의 대표적인 동물실험 및 임상학적 연구결과를 종합하여 보면 성인의 난치성 만성질환에 대해서 치료제보다는 질병을 예방하고 회복촉진에 보다 큰 효과 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 이는 인삼이 식품과 의약품의 중간에 위치한 식품의약품(Nutraceutical)의 용도로 활용할 수 있음을 시사한다. 현재까지 인삼제품에 표시되는 기능성의 내용은 약 3,000여편 이상의 약리효능에 관련된 논문이 발표되었다 하더라도 "피로회복, 면역력 증진, 혈소판 응집 억제를 통한 혈액흐름에 도움이 됩니다"이며 이외의 기능성 표시는 현재로서 원칙적으로 불가한 것으로 되어 있다. 그러나 시험물질의 규격화 및 임상시험의 검토기준을 만족시키는 과학적 자료제출에 의한 개별 평가 후 표시내용의 확대가 가능하다. 고려인삼의 다양한 성분 중 ginsenoside는 주요 약효성분으로 인정을 받고 있으며 현재 품질관리의 지표성분으로 활용되고 있다. 이러한 개별 ginsenoside의 약리작용을 보면 서로 유사 또는 상반된 효과를 보여주는 성분들이 공존하고 있어 인삼의 다양한 약리효과와 일맥상통하는 것으로 보고되고 있다. 아울러, ginsenoside는 인삼의 부위 별로 현격한 차이를 보여주기 때문에 소재의 규격화는 매우 중요하다고 판단된다. 따라서, 인삼제품 개발의 가장 중요한 조건은 의약품에 가까운 기능성식품으로 세계적인 제품을 만들기 위해서는 표준화가 선행되어야 한다. 이와 같은 조건을 잘 충족시키는 제품이 스위스 "파마톤의 진사나(백삼추출물, G115)" 제품으로 생각할 수 있다. 따라서, 고려인삼의 수출시장 확대 및 세계적인 제품을 위해서는 진사나에 필적할 수 있는 새로운 홍삼의 표준화된 추출물을 도출하는 것이 무엇보다 급선무라 생각한다. 아울러 고려인삼의 특장점 발굴을 위한 표준화 된 추출분획물, 활성성분 및 효능과 연계한 새로운 고부가가치 창출제품(식품/의약품)개발에 주력해야 할 것이다.

A Patient with Spinal Accessory Neuropathy after Self Neck Massage Treated with TMJ Balancing Therapy: A Case Report (경부 자가 마사지 후 척수부신경병증을 호소하는 환자의 턱관절균형요법 치험례)

  • The purpose of this study is to describe the effects of temporomandibular joint balancing therapy on a patient with a spinal accessory neuropathy. A patient reported sternocleidomastoid muscle and trapezius muscle weakness after self-massage. The patient was instructed to wear the Accurate Balancing Appliance (ABA) for at least 8 hours per day and maintain an upright posture. The patient received cervical spine manipulation on day 2, 4, and 6. The patient's progress was tracked based on the angle at which the head turned to the right from the midline when she lifted her head while lying down, as well as the muscle strength and pain in the right trapezius muscle. The patient recovered spontaneously after 7 days. The ABA and cervical spine manipulation assisted the patient in reducing fatigue and discomfort during daily activities.

Effect of Implant Types and Bone Resorption on the Fatigue Life and Fracture Characteristics of Dental Implants (임플란트 형태와 골흡수가 임플란트 피로 수명 및 파절 특성에 미치는 효과에 관한 연구)

  • To investigate the effect of implant types and bone resorption on the fracture characteristics. 4 types of Osstem$^{(R)}$Implant were chosen and classified into external parallel, internal parallel, external taper, internal taper groups. Finite elements analysis was conducted with ANSYS Multi Physics software. Fatigue fracture test was performed by connecting the mold to the dynamic load fatigue testing machine with maximum load of 600N and minimum load of 60N. The entire fatigue test was performed with frequency of 14Hz and fractured specimens were observed with Hitachi S-3000 H scanning electron microscope. The results were as follows: 1. In the fatigue test of 2 mm exposed implants group, Tapered type and external connected type had higher fatigue life. 2. In the fatigue test of 4 mm exposed implants group, Parallel type and external connected types had higher fatigue life. 3. The fracture patterns of all 4 mm exposed implant system appeared transversely near the dead space of the fixture. With a exposing level of 2 mm, all internally connected implant systems were fractured transversely at the platform of fixture facing the abutment. but externally connected ones were fractured at the fillet of abutment body and hexa of fixture or near the dead space of the fixture. 4. Many fatigue striations were observed near the crack initiation and propagation sites. The cleavage with facet or dimple fractures appeared at the final fracture sites. 5. Effective stress of buccal site with compressive stress is higher than that of lingual site with tensile stress, and effective stress acting on the fixture is higher than that of the abutment screw. Also, maximum effective stress acting on the parallel type fixtures is higher. It is careful to use the internal type implant system in posterior area.

Effects of red ginseng supplementation on aerobic.anaerobic performance, central and peripheral fatigue (홍삼 섭취가 유.무산소성 운동수행능력과 중추 및 말초피로에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of red ginseng on the performance of aerobics anaerobics exercise and peripheral central fatigue. For this purpose, we measured $\dot{V}O_2max$, $\dot{V}O_2$ at recovery, anaerobic power, blood lactate, Branched-Chain Amino Acid(BCAA) etc in thirty male subjects. They were divided into three group; EGG: endurance training + red ginseng supplementation group(n=7), EPG: endurance training + placebo supplementation group(n=7), GG: only red ginseng supplementation group(n=10). 6 subjects were excepted because they were intermediate test absence(test at four week : EGG=1, EPG=2; test at eight week : EGG=1). EGG and GG took red ginseng twice a day for total 8weeks. Moreover, EGG and EPG were exercised during 45 minutes, three times a week for 12 weeks. The result of this study are shown as follow: In case of $\dot{V}O_2max$, %$\dot{V}O_2$/$\dot{V}O_2max$ and plasma BCAA concentration, no statistically significant change were found among three groups. But, it was showed that three groups tended to increased slightly in $\dot{V}O_2max$, % $\dot{V}O_2$/$\dot{V}O_2max$ and plasma BCAA concentration. For conclusion, the present data provide a new evidence that ingestion of ergogenic aids contained with red ginseng may improve aerobic exercise performance and central fatigue.

Compassion Satisfaction and Compassion Fatigue among Social Workers (사회복지사의 연민만족과 연민피로에 관한 연구)

  • Social workers empathized with clients'distress, feel concerned for clients in distress, and try to reduce their distress. This is called compassion. Compassion is an essential component of social work practice. However, compassion results in both positive results and negative results. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the Korean version of ProQOL which was developed to measure compassion satisfaction and compassion fatigue of helping professionals, to identify levels of compassion satisfaction/fatigue of the participants, and to divide the participants into clusters by clustering variables which are compassion satisfaction/fatigue. A total of 284 social workers residing in Seoul and Surrounding areas participated in this study. Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed that the Korea version of ProQOL is composed of compassion satisfaction factor and compassion fatigue factor as reported in a previous study. Its reliability and validity were satisfactory. The level of participants'compassion satisfaction was above moderate and their level of compassion fatigue was below moderate. Those who are older, have graduate education, have more years of work experience, or have higher positions have more compassion satisfaction. Cluster analysis divided the participants into 3 clusters. Cluster 1 is characterized by moderate compassion satisfaction and low compassion fatigue, Cluster 2 is characterized by low compassion satisfaction and moderate compassion fatigue, and Cluster 3 is characterized by high compassion satisfaction and high compassion fatigue.

Effects of Green Tea on Hepatic Antioxidative Defense System and Muscle Fatigue Recovery in Rat after Aerobic Exercise (녹차가 유산소 운동 후 흰쥐 간조직의 항산화 작용 및 근피로 회복에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of green tea on hepatic antioxidative defense system and recovery of muscle fatigue in rat after aerobic exercise. Male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 150$\pm$ 10 g were randomly assigned to one normal (N) group and aerobic exercise training groups. Exercise training groups were classified into two groups: training (T) group and green tea (TG) group which were supplemented the distilled water and green tea extracts by dringking water during experimental periods, respectively. The experimental rats in exercise training groups (T and TG) ran on a treadmill 30 min/day at a speed of 28 m/min (7% incline) 5 days/week or were cage confined (Normal group) for 4 weeks. And rats were sacrificed with an overdose of pentobarbital injection just after running. Hepatic xanthine oxidase (XOD) activities were not significantly different among three groups. The activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) in T group was no significant difference from N group, but those of TG groups were significantly increased, compared with that of T group. Hepatic glutathione peroxidase (GSHpx) activites of TG groups showed a similar tendency to that of normal group, but it was increased to 20% in TG group, compared with normal group. The reduced glutathione (GSH) contents in liver was not significantly different from that of any three group. The oxidized glutathione (GSSG) contents in T group was increased to 69%, compared with the normal group, but TG group significantly decreased, compared with the T group. The ratio of GSH/GSSG in liver of T group was lower than that of normal group, but those of TG group was a similar tendency to that of normal group. Contents of thiobarbituric acid reactive substance(TBARS) in T group was increased to 52%, compared with that of normal group but those of TG group were recovered the normal level. Contents of hepatic glycogen in T group were decreased to 23% compared with those of normal group, while that of TG group was the same as normal levels. The contents of serum lactic acid in T group were increased to 261%, compared with normal group, but those of TG group maintained the normal level by green tea supplementations. In conclusion, the effects of green tea in exercise training rats would appear to reduce peroxidation of tissue as an antioxidative defense mechanism and promote recovery of muscle fatigue.
