Automatic Carotid Artery Image Segmentation using Snake Based Model (스네이크모델을 기반으로 한 경동맥 이미지분할)

  • Disease diagnostics based on medical imaging is getting popularity day by day. Presence of the atherosclerosis is one of the causes of narrowing of carotid arteries which may block partially or fully blood flow into the brain. Serious brain strokes may occur due to such types of blockages in blood flow. Early detection of the plaque and taking precautionary steps in this regard may prevent from such type of serious strokes. In this paper, we present an automatic image segmentation technique for carotid artery ultrasound images based on active contour approach. In our experimental study, we assume that ultrasound images are properly aligned before applying automatic image segmentation. We have successfully applied the automatic segmentation of carotid artery ultrasound images using snake based model. Qualitative comparison of the proposed approach has been made with the manual initialization of snakes for carotid artery image segmentation. Our proposed approach successfully segments the carotid artery images in an automated way to help radiologists to detect plaque easily. Obtained results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Transfer of RP4:Mu cts from E. coli to Rhizovium leguminosarum (RP4:Mu cts의 E.coli로 부터 Rhizovium leguminosarum으로의 전달)

  • In order to use for recipient strains of RP4:Mu cts, 5 strainsof Rhizobium were selected among 32 strains, which were isolated and identified in this study. Hybrid plasmin RP4::Mu cts, which, is temperature sensitive and confers resistance to ampicillin, kanamycin and tetracycline was transfered by conjugation from E. coli to other atrains of C. coli and the symbiotic nitrogen fixer, Rhizobium leguminosarum. Transfer frequencies of RP4::Mu cts plasmid from E. coli to Rhizobium were about $10^{-8}-10^{-7}$ in LB agar and YMA media. The transconjugants were confirmed by demonstrating that the drug-resistant and temperature-sensitive clones isolated were drug-resistant and temperature-sensitive clones isolated were capable of releasing phage and forming plaques. The plaque-forming units of transconjugants were about $10^2\;to\;10^3$. Stability test of RP4::Mucts in Rhizobium represented that most of the transconjugants had drug resistance and produce phage Mu cts.

Finite Element Analysis of Stent Expansion Considering Stent, Artery and Plaque Interaction (유한요소 해석방법을 이용한 스텐트와 혈관, Plaque의 상호작용에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, results are presented by nonlinear finite element simulations in order to analy the interactions between the stent and artery or plaque. Maximum of von Mises stress was calculated in the contacting areas between the stent and the artery. The simulated results show that the distal end of stent, which tilts after expansion, may injure the artery wall. In conclusion, this study may help designing new stents.

  • 관상 동맥 질환은 관상 동맥 내벽에 플라크(Plaque)가 침착된 결과 혈관이 좁아져서 생기는 질환으로, 혈관이 좁아져 심장으로의 혈류가 감소하고, 혈전이 동맥을 막아 심장 발작을 일으킨다. 본 논문에서는 관상동맥 질환의 객관적 분석을 위한 분할 방법론과 분할된 영역으로부터 정량적 분석 방법을 제안한다. 동맥 단면영상으로부터 정량 분석을 위해 획득한 단면영상을 현미경으로부터 12.5배 배율로 얻었으며, 정량 분석을 위해 혈관의 각 영역을 분할하여 분할영역의 크기, 최대 장축 등의 정보를 추출하였다. 본 논문에서 제시한 알고리즘을 사용하여 수 작업에 의한 혈관 단면 분석을 자동화하면, 3차원적 변화량에 따른 정량분석 결과를 얻을 수 있을 것이다.

  • 본 논문은 딥러닝을 이용해 개인이나, 수의사가 반려동물의 피부병을 특정 하는데 있어서 도움을 줄 수 있는 시스템을 설계하였다. 이 시스템은 사용자가 사용하는 모바일 어플리케이션을 통해 이미지를 수집하고 Mask_RCNN 모델을 사용하여 '구진 플라크','비듬 각질 상피성잔고리', '태선화 과다색소침착', 미란 궤양', '결정 종괴', 농포 여드름'의 6 가지 상태로 분류한 다음 사용자에게 대처법과 병명을 알려주는 반려동물 질병 진단 시스템을 설계하였다.

  • The number of dementia patients in Korea is estimated to be over 800,000, and the severity of dementia is becoming a social problem. However, no treatment or drug has yet been developed to cure dementia worldwide. The number of dementia patients is expected to increase further due to the rapid aging of the population. Currently, early detection of dementia and delaying the course of dementia symptoms is the best alternative. This study presented a methodology for early diagnosis of dementia by measuring and analyzing amyloid plaques. This vital protein can most clearly and early diagnose dementia in the retina through AI-based image analysis. We performed binary classification and multi-classification learning based on CNN on retina data. We also developed a deep learning algorithm that can diagnose dementia early based on pre-processed retinal data. Accuracy and recall of the deep learning model were verified, and as a result of the verification, and derived results that satisfy both recall and accuracy. In the future, we plan to continue the study based on clinical data of actual dementia patients, and the results of this study are expected to solve the dementia problem.

  • Bacteriophage P4 ost2 which is the P4 mutant suppressing sir mutations of Bacteriophage P2, was isolated as a plaque-former by plating P4 ash8 sid 71 kmr intS on the lawn of P2 sir3 lysogen. P4 ost2 turned out to be the P4 mutant suppressing sir mutations of P2 in one-step growth experiments.

  • Twelve recombinant viruses with wider host range were plaque purified after coinfectian of Autographa cahjornica and Bombyx mOT! NPVs into Sf9 ar BmN-4 cells. Restriction endonucleases analysis of the recombinant's DNAs showed that the recombinatIOn between AcNPV and BmNPV genomes had occurred more than once. When the recombinam RecB-8, derived from BrnN-4 cells, was observed by electron rntcroscopy, the shape of the polyhedron was a regular tetrahedron, and few virions were occluded into a polyhedron.

  • Transport mechanisms of nickel ion through a continuous electrodeionization (CEDI) were investigated in terms of electric properties of ion exchange textile (IET). The porous plug model and extended Nernst-Plank (N-P) equation were applied for the description of transport mechanism of nickel ion. The model revealed that the CEDI performance was mainly due to the induced current not accelerated mobility by IET. This study also suggested that optimal operating conditions are attained with minimized electroregeneration region.

  • Atherosclerosis is a chronic vascular inflammatory disease in which plaque builds up in the arteries and impairs blood flow. This can lead to heart disease and stroke. Since most people do not have any symptoms until the artery is severely narrowed, early detection of atherosclerosis is critical. In this paper, in order to effectively detect atherosclerotic lesions in tube-shaped blood vessels, polar conversion is applied to MRI images based on the vessel center. We then propose a SE-LSTMNet model using continuous signal information for each angle of a polar coordinate image. The trained model showed classification performance of 0.9194 accuracy, 0.9370 sensitivity, 0.8796 specificity, 0.8700 F1 score, and 0.9719 AUC on the validation data.
