Synthesis of wagnerite and its analogues for ceramic pigments (ll) (도자기 유약용 Wagnerite의 합성(II))

  • In order to investigate the polymorphism of wagnerite, the single phase of$Mg_3(PO_4)_2$ was synthesized by heating the stoichiometric mixture of $Mg_3(PO_4)_2$ and $MgF_2$ in a sealed platinum tube at $1040^{\circ}C$ (or 3 hours, One reversible inversion was detected at $1255^{\circ}C$ and the thermal decomposition was not observed until it reached the melting point. As a result, wagnerite is thermally stable enough to be used as pigments for glazes and plastics if substituted with divalent metal ions. The contractions of d-values in $Zn_4P_2O_8F_2$ and $Zn_3MgP_2O_8F_2$ phases were observed by the substitution with metal ions which resulted in intense purple, gold and green colors. Among the several attempts of charge - coupled sub-stitution, only $A^{1+}A_3^{2+}X^{5+}X^{6+}O_8_F2$ compositions were successful to synthesize the wagnerite phase.

A Study on Exploring Accumulation Zone and Composition Investigation of Floating Debris in Nakdong River Basin (낙동강 유역 부유쓰레기의 집적 구간 탐색 및 성상 조사 연구)

  • The aim of this study is to find out major accumulation zones through field survey and moving route tracking trials on floating debris of Nakdong River. It also identified composition and accumulated amount of the floating debris by sample survey for accumulation zones. As a result, total 5 accumulation zones were selected from the midstream and downstream of the Nakdong River. There was a large amount of floating debris, including vegetation debris, in the accumulation zones. And two accumulation zones located in the downstream region, it is much more likely to flow into the ocean along river. From the sample survey on the major accumulation zones, more than $40{\ell}$ of floating debris were collected including vegetation and artificial debris. As a result of composition analysis for artificial debris, plastic(49%) and styrofoam(36%) were the majority in number. The present study is expected to help to plan an efficient pre-collecting activity and to reduce floating debris flowing into the ocean from the Nakdong River.

  • Diverse accessories are used in automobiles, such as navigation systems, front and rear cameras, spoilers, and sun visors. Sun visors block sunlight so that drivers can drive safely with a better view, and they are used in many automobile designs. However, when large plastic products are manufactured using injection molding, there are many difficulties that develop, like weld lines, short shots, flow marks, imperfections, and distortion. In this study, a CAE simulation was conducted based on previous results to predict potential problems in the injection molding of large products. The flow characteristics up to complete charge for the melting resins were captured using a computer-aided engineering simulation. The temperature departure on the front part of a flow was about $10^{\circ}C$ and very stable. The practical ejecting time of the cold runner was about 70 seconds in the simulation. Finally, the capability of a suitable injection machine was calculated and recommended by prediction of the injection pressure and the die clamping force.

Damage of Garlic Gall Mite, Aceria tulipae(Keifer), on Stored Garlic and its Chemical Control (저장마늘의 마늘혹응애 피해와 화학적 방제)

  • In a survey on the pests of stored garlic, an unrecorded gall mite in Korea was found to damage on garlic surface making stripe feeding injuries. The mite was identified as Aceria tulipae (Keifer) 1938, based on the morphological characteristics. Light microscopic and SEM observations on garlics fed by A. tulipae revealed that there was no gall formation by feeding but there was only surface damage symptom. The damaged garlic surface showed symptom of losing gloss in the early stage and the feeding traces under dissecting microscope. Brown stripes appeared in the middle stage of damage and the whole scale turned to dark brown and shrank in the later stage. When the mite infested garlics were fumigated with 3 g/m3 aluminium phosphide for 72 hours in airtight plastic boxes (1 m x 1 m x 1 m), the mortalities of mite were over 90% for Namdo garlics.

Effects of ZnO Composition on the Thermal Emission Properties for LTCC Type of High Power LED Package (고전력 LED용 적층형 LTCC 패키징의 ZnO 조성 변화가 방열 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • LTCC (Low temperature co-fired ceramic) package have been paid much attention due its good reliability, miniaturization, and application of silver paste with complex wiring and printing. Therefore, LTCC package has been expected to replace vulnerable plastic package in the field of high power LED device. Currently, LTCC ceramic package is mainly made up of aluminum oxide powder. In this study, zinc oxide powder is added or replaced for the fabrication of LTCC ceramic body. By adding small amount of ZnO, thermal conductivity of the LTCC ceramic body could be remarkably increased by 25% leading to the extension of LED life time. The LTCC package structure with composition including ZnO has an increased thermal flux by 56% as a result of ANSYS simulation. Actually, the fabricated LED package with the addition of ZnO exhibits a decreased thermal resistivity by 14.9%.

Study on Anti-estrogenic Activity of DEHP as an Endocrine Disruption Chemical (내분비 교란성 DEHP의 항-에스트로젠 활성에 관한 연구)

  • Di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP), is a widely used plasticizer known to be a suspected endocrine disrupter, but its exact effects on aquatic organisms are not yet known. When Japanese medaka (Oryzias latipes) were exposed from the time of hatching to 3 months of age to an aqueous DEHP solution at nominal concentrations of 1, 10, and 50 $\mu\textrm{g}$/l, DEHP treated female fish showed distinct reproductive effect. And the midge (Chironomus riparius.). an aquatic invertebrate, was exposed to DEHP to evaluate the effects on reproductive processes via sediment toxicity. The test endpoints included emergence, sex ratio, fecundity, and the viability of F1 offspring egg ropes. The result implied that the normal developmental and/or reproductive processes in C. riparius had been disrupted when exposed to DEHP, the effect also being displayed in the next generation. In summary, DEHP hinders the development of reproductive organs in the female Japanese medaka and C. riparius.

Analysis of Indoor Thermal Environment and Cooling Effects by Ventilation Condition, and Spray irrigation or Nonspray of Single Span Plastic Greenhouses (환기조건 및 관수에 따른 단동 플라스틱 하우스의 냉방효과와 열환경 분석)

  • In this study, we quantitatively compare the cooling effects of single span plastic greenhouses by opening or shutting of toot and side vents, and operation of fan or sprinkler. With those variables, we simultaneously made experiments at 4 greenhouses under equivalent conditions. By the experiments, the shutting of roof and side vents caused the high temperature difference of indoor and outdoor which the crops cannot be cultivated. However, the opening of the windows effectively reduced the indoor temperature and showed uniform temperature distribution in the greenhouses. The sprinkler abruptly reduced the indoor temperature, and showed excellent cooling effects. Finally, this paper provides the fundamental data for environmental control in greenhouses.

Effect of Soil Water Content on the Yield and Quality of Plastic Greenhouse Oriental Melon during Low Temperature Season (토양수분조건이 시설재배 참외의 수량과 품질에 미치는 영향)

  • In order to investigate the optimum irrigation point by soil water tension in oriental melon grown in plastic greenhouse during low temperature season, irrigation points from 10 days before fruiting to 10 days before harvesting were examined with 10, 20, 30 and 50 kPa, respectively. Total amount of water applied was 92.5mm at 10kPa but not irrigated at 50kPa due to the unreach of irrigation point. Fruit weight increased with increased soil water content; it was 456g at 10kPa but 324g at 50kPa. While marketable yield of fruit was lowest at 10 kPa due to increased fermented fruit. Sugar content in fruit was highest at 30 or 50 kPa but lowest at 10kPa. As a result, for higher sugar content and marketable yield, the recommended irrigation point is 30kPa of soil water tension.

  • In this paper, Glass Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastic (GFRTP) for automotive headlight source module was fabricated by compounding and injection molding using PPS (Poly Phenylene Sulfide) resin with glass fiber which has three cross section (round type, cocoon type, flat type). Tensile, flexural, impact properties were investigated on effect of cross section, glass fiber contents. And it was observed flatness, dimensional stability, fluidity depending on glass fiber cross section. As a result, flat glass fiber reinforced thermoplastic's mechanical properties were most excellent. Also, dimensional stability and flatness showed better results when using flat glass fiber.

Elasticity of the Funnel Ribs and Hydrodynamic Characteristics on the Sea Eel Pots (장어통발의 깔대기 탄성과 유체역학적 특성)

  • The basic experiments on the plastic sea eel pots used in fishing were carried out in order to investigate the elasticity of the funnel ribs, hydrodynamic resistance, sinking time and diffusion of the bait from June to October, 1987. The elasticity of the bamboo funnel ribs was higher than that of the polypropylene ribs up to the load 150g. The hydrodynamic resistance R (kg) of the pots towing to the head direction horizontally in relation to towing velocity V (m/sec) was expressed as following formula; R=0.36V super(2.01) and coefficient of drag C sub(D) was 0.52. The sinking times of the covered pots by tape fully or partially were late 1-2 second than the typical pots within the water depth 7.5m. The diffusion tendency through the covered pots using dye and sardine extracts solution was concentrated to the entrance more than the typical pots. However, fishing efficiency as number and weight of fish per pots for nine times fishing operation was revealed no difference between the covered pots and the typical pots.
