  • The aerodynamic design and analysis on advanced propeller with blade sweep was performed for recent turboprop aircraft. HS1 airfoil series are selected as a advanced propeller blade airfoil. Adkins method is used for aerodynamic design and performance analysis with respect to the design point. Adkins method is based on the vortex-blade element theory which design the propeller to satisfy the condition for minimum energy loss. Propeller geometry is generated by varying chord length and pitch angle at design point of target aircraft. Advanced propeller is designed by apply the modified chord length, the tip sweep which is based on the geometry of conventional propeller. The aerodynamic characteristics of the designed Advanced propeller were verified by CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamic) and evaluated to be properly designed.

  • In order to develop high efficiency propeller for multicopter type UAV, we designed, analyzed and tested aerodynamic and structural dynamics. For the design of the high efficiency propeller, the optimum design method was applied for the determination of the airfoil and the three-dimensional planform is designed to reduce induced power of the propeller. The flight suitability of the derived shape was determined through structural design and analysis. The rotation test was performed to confirm the performance of the analytically designed shape. In this paper, we propose a procedural propeller design methodology using these design analysis test methods.

  • A new propeller series is developed using the newly developed blade section(KH18 section) which behaves better cavitation characteristics and higher lift-drag ratio at wide range of angle-of-attack. The pitch and camber distributions are disigned in order to have the same radial and chordwise loading distribution with the selected circumferentially averaged wake input. Since the geometries of the series propeller, such as chord length, thickness, skew and rate distribations, are selected by regression of the recent full scale propeller geometric data, the performance prediction of a propeller at preliminary design stage can be mure realistic. Number of blades of the series propellers is 4 and the expanded blade area ratios are 0.3, 0.45, 0.6 and 0.75. Mean pitch ratios are selected as 0.5, 0.65, 0.8, 0.75 and 1.1 for each expanded area ratio. The new propeller series is composed of 20 propellers and is named as KD(KRISO-DAEWOO) propeller series. Propeller open water tests are performed at the experimental towing tank, and the cavitation observation tests and fluctuating pressure measurements are carried out at the cavitation tunnel of KRISO. $B_{P}-\delta$ curves, which can be used to select the optimum propeller diameter at the preliminary design stage, are derived from a regression analysis of the propeller often water test results. The KD-cavitation chart is derived from the cavitation observation test results by choosing the local maximum lift coefficient and the local cavitation number as parameters. The caviy extent of a propeller can be predicted more accurately by using the KD-cavitation chart at a preliminary design stage, since it is derived from the results of the cavitation observation tests in the selected ship's wake, whereas the existing cavitation charts, such as the Burrill's cavitation chart, are derived from the test results in uniform flow.

  • The aim of this research is to predict the thickness and loading noise of the round-tip shaped Hartzell propeller currently used in the general aviation aircraft. Before implementing the noise analysis, the pressure distribution on the propeller was obtained by using the free wake panel method and unsteady Bernoulli's equation. The noise signal at observer position can be obtained by using the FW-H equation. The noise prediction results for the propeller indicates that the thickness noise has s symmetric directivity pattern with respect to the tip path plane, while the noise due to loading shows higher noise directivity toward downstream than the upstream direction from the rotor plane. The loading noise is dominant rather than the thickness noise in normal operating condition.

  • In this paper, we suggest a design concept of defining the propeller geometry by stacking up the blade sections aligned with propeller surface streamlines. Numerical and experimental propeller open water(P.O.W.) characteristics of a newly designed propeller are presented. The surface streamlines for a propeller are obtained by using the panel method. Redefinition of the blade sections aligned with the streamlines is provided together with 8-spline modeling, by which we manufacture model propellers. We carried out the P.O.W, tests in a towing tank in order to show the effect of the present method on P.O.W. characteristics.

  • The cavitation noise of high-speed propellers was experimentally studied using new measurement device in KRISO cavitation tunnel. A series of cavitation noise tests were carried out for 6 propellers with various sections, loading distributions, and a different area ratio. From the experimental results, the noise characteristics for various cavitation patterns and the noise performance for a series of propellers were analyzed. These can be used for full-scale prediction study of the noise and optimum design of high-speed propellers.

  • When a ship propeller having wing type sections rotates at high speed underwater, local pressure on the blade decreases and various types of the cavitation inevitably occur where the local pressure falls below the vapor pressure. Fundamentally characteristics of the cavitation are determined by the shapes of the blade section and their operating conditions. Underwater noise radiated from a ship propeller is directly connected to the occurrence of the cavitation. In order to design low noise propeller, it is preferentially demanded to figure out key features: how the cavity is generated, developed and collapsed and how the effect of viscosity works in the process. In this study, we first perform inviscid analysis of the partial cavity generated on two dimensional hydrofoil. Secondly, viscous analysis using FLUENT with different turbulence and cavitation models are presented. Results from both approaches are also compared and estimated.

That is way Clark-Y airfoil which is used to conventional turboprop aircraft propeller is selected as a blade airfoil. Javaprop program based on the Adkins method is used for aerodynamic design and analysis of propeller, Adkins method is based on the vortex-blade element theory which design the propeller to satisfy the condition for minimum energy loss. Slipstream displacement don't change and consider a rigid body. High efficiency propeller geometry is generated by varying chord length and pitch angle at design point of FAR25 turboprop aircraft. The propeller design results indicate that could be applied to the FAR25 turboprop aircraft, through analysis of propeller aerodynamic characteristics using the CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamic).
