An Optimization Tool for Determining Processor Affinity of Networking Processes (통신 프로세스의 프로세서 친화도 결정을 위한 최적화 도구)

  • Multi-core processors can improve parallelism of application processes and thus can enhance the system throughput. Researchers have recently revealed that the processor affinity is an important factor to determine network I/O performance due to architectural characteristics of multi-core processors; thus, many researchers are trying to suggest a scheme to decide an optimal processor affinity. Existing schemes to dynamically decide the processor affinity are able to transparently adapt for system changes, such as modifications of application and upgrades of hardware, but these have limited access to characteristics of application behavior and run-time information that can be collected heuristically. Thus, these can provide only sub-optimal processor affinity. In this paper, we define meaningful system variables for determining optimal processor affinity and suggest a tool to gather such information. We show that the implemented tool can overcome limitations of existing schemes and can improve network bandwidth.

  • 현재 멀티 코어 프로세서는 많은 서버에 적용되어 사용되고 있으며, 향후에는 하나의 프로세서 패키지에 포함될 코어의 개수는 계속해서 증가할 것이다. 그러나 현재 운영체제들은 멀티 코어 시스템을 멀티 프로세서 환경과 거의 동일하게 다루고 있으며 아직 멀티 코어 특성을 고려한 성능 최적화 시도는 미흡한 상태이다. 본 논문은 SMP와 NUMA 구조의 멀티 코어 프로세서 환경에서 통신 프로세스와 네트워크 인터럽트의 프로세서 친화도를 변화시키며 네트워크 처리율과 코어의 유휴 자원 양을 정량적으로 분석한다. 측정 결과 프로세서 친화도에 따라 통신 처리율은 크게 변하지 않지만 프로세서 자원의 요구량에는 크게 영향을 주는 것을 보인다. 또한 이러한 프로세서 자원의 영향은 멀티 코어 프로세서의 캐쉬 공유 구조 및 메모리 분산 구조와 밀접한 관계를 갖고 있음을 밝힌다.

Using the On-Package Memory of Manycore Processor for Improving Performance of MPI Intra-Node Communication (MPI 노드 내 통신 성능 향상을 위한 매니코어 프로세서의 온-패키지 메모리 활용)

  • The emerging next-generation manycore processors for high-performance computing are equipped with a high-bandwidth on-package memory along with the traditional host memory. The Multi-Channel DRAM (MCDRAM), for example, is the on-package memory of the Intel Xeon Phi Knights Landing (KNL) processor, and theoretically provides a four-times-higher bandwidth than the conventional DDR4 memory. In this paper, we suggest a mechanism to exploit MCDRAM for improving the performance of MPI intra-node communication. The experiment results show that the MPI intra-node communication performance can be improved by up to 272 % compared with the case where the DDR4 is utilized. Moreover, we analyze not only the performance impact of different MCDRAM-utilization mechanisms, but also that of core affinity for processes.

  • The recent high-performance network equipment is required, and also require high network bandwidth utilization. It is a trend to develop increasingly using multi-core processors for high-performance network servers. Propose a method to improve the performance of the network sub-system, considering the characteristics of multi-core as a way to improve these high-performance and high network throughput. In this paper, we confirm through experiments on how to improve the communication performance, optimize performance and take full advantage of multi-core by Network communication process to improve the performance of the multi-core processor architecture, the process of concentration, the overhead for each core, based on network traffic according to the interrupt affinity in this process to determine the optimal core to give. The experiments were implemented in the Linux kernel, and experiments to improve the network throughput up to 30%, bringing reduces the Linux communication process to improve the performance of the processor overhead of up to 10%.

A dual-link CC-NUMA System Tolerant to the Multiprogramming Environment (다중 프로그램 환경에 적합한 이중 연결 CC-NUMA 시스템)

  • Under the multiprogrammed situation, the performance of multiprocessor system is affected by the process allocation policy of the operating systems. The lowest communication cost can be achieved when the related processes positioned to the adjacent processors. While the effective allocation is quite difficult to the real situation, and the processing of the allocation policy consumes some computation time. The dual-ring CC-NUMA systems exhibit a quite performance difference according to the process a1location policy due to a lot of unbalanced memory transactions on the interconnection networks. In this paper, I propose a load balanced dual-link CC-NUMA system that does not requires the processes allocation policy. By the program-driven simulation results. the proposed system shows no remarkable difference according to the allocation policy while the dual-ring systems shows 10% performance improvement by the process allocation. In addition, the proposed system outperforms the dual~ring systems about 1.5 times.

  • In ubiquitous computing environment, An RFID system will be the important way that recognizing an object instead of Bar-code system. But a privacy infringement problem is predicted between a tag and leader to be serious. There is many difficulty that just uses an existing research method because it has an Hardware restriction. Therefore we will suggest that A RFID Privacy Protect system using Hareware friendly security algorithm. we will use RC5 and CBC_MAC because the tag has hardware restriction .To implement, We will simulate and test on One chip microprcessor environment. In the result of the experiment, We will know that a suggested system solves privacy problem on RFID system that it was using CBC-MAC and RC5 security algorithm.

  • 경량전철 시스템은 1950년대 후반부터 증가하는 운송수요에 대한 대안으로 제시되고 있고, 유연한 노선 계획이 가능한 도시환경 친화적인 첨단 궤도 교통 시스템이다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 차세대 근거리 교통 수단으로 각광받고 있는 경량전철 시스템에 이중화 기술을 적용하여 기존 시스템에 비해 한 단계 높아진 신뢰성을 확보한 전력 SCADA 시스템을 다루고자 한다. 과거 각종 시스템 개발의 초점이 Functionality와 Performance에 있었다면, 무어의 법칙이 말해주듯이 마이크로프로세서를 비롯한 하드웨어, 소프트웨어 및 초속 통신 기술의 발전을 통해 현재의 시스템 개발은 과거의 관심사를 포함하여 안정성 및 신뢰성의 확보가 중요한 관건중 하나이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이러한 기술을 토대로 시스템의 중단을 최소화하여 보다 Robust한 전력 SCADA 시스템에 적용된 이중화 기술을 소개하고자 한다.

  • Recently, the diverse needs of the drivers for in-vehicle infotainment systems are increasing rapidly. As a result, the infotainment systems are equipped with more convenient and human-friendly high-tech features. In this paper, we designed and implemented in-vehicle multimedia infotainment system based on embedded system that was applied various multimedia to in-vehicles. The proposed system can support independent display on each screen for the multi-channel multimedia source based on one processor(1 CPU). Therefore, our system can be reduced costs compared to other systems. This system not only displays the video and audio data in storage devices but also displays CAM, T-DMB, and DVB-T multimedia contents which are supplied in real-time services. Also, our system could multi-screen displays multimedia data in smart phone using Wi-Fi. We expect that in-vehicle infotainment systems like AVN(Audio video navigation) and RSE(Rear Seat Entertainment) could be used in various applications and reduced costs.

  • Touch-enabled technology is increasingly being accepted as a main communication interface between human and computers. However, conventional touchscreen technologies, such as resistive overlay, capacitive overlay, and SAW(Surface Acoustic Wave), are not cost-effective for large screens. As an alternative to the conventional methods, we introduce a newly emerging method, an optical imaging touchscreen which is much simpler and more cost-effective. Despite its attractive benefits, optical imaging touchscreen has to overcome some problems, such as heavy computational complexity, intermittent ghost points, and over-sensitivity, to be commercially used. Therefore, we designed a hardware controller for signal processing and multi-coordinate computation, and proposed Infrared-blocked DA(Dark Area) manipulation as a solution. While the entire optical touch control took 34ms with a 32-bit microprocessor, the designed hardware controller can manage 2 valid coordinates at 200fps and also reduce energy consumption of infrared diodes from 1.8Wh to 0.0072Wh.
