The Effect of Stator`s Slot on the Torque in the Windmill Type Ultrasonic Motor (풍차형 초음파 전동기의 고정자 슬롯이 토크에 미치는 영향)

  • In this paper, a windmill type ultrasonic motor operated by single-Phase AC electric field was fabricated, and then torque characteristics were investigated. A metal-ceramic composite component was used as the stator\`s vibrator to generate ultrasonic vibrations. The windmill type ultrasonic motors has only three components; a stator element with two wind-mill shape slotted metal endcaps, a rotor and a bearing. In this parer we measured torque, when stator\`s slot was changed Iron 4, 6, 8. Brass metal was pressed with umbrella-type using metal molt then slot of 3 kind was manufactured. The maximum revolution speed was 388(rpm) in the case of a small ultrasonic motor of 11.35 mm diameter, 8 slot and 1.01 mm thickness. The maximum torque of 0.17 mNm was obtained at a speed of 131 rpm.

Fabrication of Ultrasonic Motors of Wind-Mill Type using Piezoelectric Ceramics and Its Characteristics (압전 세라믹스를 이용한 풍차형 초음파 전동기의 제작과 특성)

  • A miniaturized wind-mill type ultrasonic motor which has diameter in 12.7 mm and thickness in 2.0mm using PMN-PZT piezoelectric ceramics was fabricated. The wind-mill type ultrasonic motors has only three plate and of two wind-mill shape slotted metal endcaps a rotor whose end is hollowed out so that its periphery fits with the shape of the stator and a bearing to guide the rotor. A Finite Element Analysis was carried out to obtain the endcaps behavior under a radial displacement change of piezoelectric disk and to optimize the structure of the number of slots. Increasing the applied voltage the revolution speed of ultrasonic motors was increased. The maximum speed of 700 rpm and the maximum torque of 0.22 nN·m of the wind-mill type ultrasonic motors were obtained.

  • The ultrasonic motor have recently begun to be used for certain unique practical utilizations in the fields of industrial medical consumer and automotive applications. Ultrasonic motor stimulated to ultrasonic oscillations by piezoelectrics to drive a rotor via friction contact. The metal and ceramic composite component was used as the stator element to generate ultrasonic vibrations. The ultrasonic motor used here was the windmill type ultrasonic motor operated by single-phase AC source. The windmill type ultrasonic motors has only three components; a stator element of two windmill shape slotted metal endcaps a rotor and a bearing. In this paper a prototype motor with 11.35 mm diameter was fabricated then relationship between the pressing force applied to a rotor and the rotation characteristic of windmill type ultrasonic motor are investigated when stator’s slots was changed from 4, 6, 8 and thickness changed from 0.15, 0.20 mm, respectively. Optimum pressing force applied to a rotor in the six stators was 1.2 mN.

  • In this study, the wind-mill type ultrasonic motor was fabricated, and then resonant frequency and vibration velocity characteristics of the stator were measured. Brass metal was pressed with umbrella-type using metal mold, then slot of 4 kind was processed in each of thickness. Among sixteen's stators, resonant frequency on vibration velocity was decreased remarkably in stator of higher resonant point, but resonant frequency on vibration velocity wasn't almost changed at lower resonant point of stator. The thickener thickness of elastic body, vibration velocity was decreased. The more slot of elastic body, vibration velocity was increased Applied voltage was changed from 10$V_{max}$ to 100$V_{max}$. Maximum vibration velocity value was 2.0[m/s].

  • In this paper, the windmill type ultrasonic motors with 11.35 mm diameter, 2.87 mm thickness of metal endcap and 1.47 g weight were fabricated. Effects of slots and thickness on torque characteristic in the windmill type ultrasonic motor were investigated, when stator's slots were changed from 4, 6, 8 and thickness 0.15 mm, respectively. Specially designed metal endcaps with windmill shaped cutting can provide longitudinal and torsional displacements simultaneously as the ceramic disk vibrates radically. The windmill type ultrasonic motor has only three components: a stator element with windmill shape slotted metal endcap, a rotor and bearing. Ultrasonic motor stimulated to ultrasonic oscillations by piezoelectrics to drive a rotor via friction contact. The ultrasonic motor fabricated here was the windmill type ultrasonic motor operated by single-phase AC source. Bidirectional revolution using single-phase high frequency for driving the ultrasonic motor was presented.

  • In this paper, vibration mode of Windmill type Ultrasonic Motors was analysed. We used the ANSYS program to analysis by FEM. Vibration Mode express 20 modes as each resonance frequency. We bind nearly same modes and compress 5 modes. Windmill type Ultrasonic Motor's rotation is generated the friction of rotor at top endcap. Thus, We will find the best driving frequency that generating large friction at top endcap.

  • Ultrasonic Motors of Wind-Mill type(diameter in 11.35mm, thickness in 2.8mm, and 1.44g weight) using Piezoelectric Ceramics have been developed.   • In this study, a windmill type ultrasonic motor operated by single-phase AC electric field was fabricated, and then revolution characteristics and 3-dimensional vibration mode of the ultrasonic motor were investigated. Brass metal was pressed with umbrella-type using metal mold, then slot of 4 kind was processed at various thickness. It was found that the revolution speed of the ultrasonic motor increased with decreasing the thickness of elastic body. The revolution speed of the ultrasonic motor increased with increasing the slots of elastic body. When the characteristics was measured, applied voltage was changed from $10V_{max}\; to\; 100V_{max}$. Then, revolution was began from $30V_{max}$, if voltage was applied over $90V_{max}$ revolution speed was saturated, and not increased. The maximum revolution speed was 510[rpm] when using elastic body with 6 slots and thickness of 0.15mm. And 3-dimensional displacement mode was rotated clockwise direction.
