  • Thermally induced errors of machine tools have been recognized as one of the most important issues in precision machining. This is probably the most formidable obstacle to obtain high level of machining accuracy. To this regard, the experimental compensation methodologies such as software-based method or origin shift of machine tool axes have been suggested. In this research, to cope with thermal deformation, a model based correction was carried out with the function of an external machine coordinate shift. Models with multi-linear regression or neural network were investigated to selected a good one for thermal compensation. Consequently, multi-linear regression model combined with origin shift was verified good enough form the machining of dot matrices of plate with ball end milling.

  • When a typoon sets into harbour, a moored ship shows erratic motions and even mooring line failure may occur. such troubles may be caused by harbour resonance phenomena, resulting in large motion amplitudes at low frequency, which is close ti the natural frequency of th moored ship. The nonlinear motions of a ship moored to quay are simulated under external forces due to wave, current including mooring forces in time domain. The forces due to waves are obtained from source and dipole distribution method in the frequency domain. The current forces are calculated by using slow motion maneuvering equation in the horizontal plane. The wind forces are calculated from the empirical formula of ABS and the mooring forces of ropes and fenders are modeled as linear spring.

  • The dynamic responses and drift forces in waves of a floating circular fish cage are analyzed considering hydroelastic effects. The method of generalized mode is used to calculate the hydroelastic responses of the floater of cage. The elastic mode shapes, generalized mass, and stiffness in dry mode are evaluated by using a structural analysis code. The higher-order boundary element method is adopted to analyze the interaction between fluid and deformable structure. Some results of vertical motions and drift forces are shown and compared with those for a rigid body.

  • The function of navigational aids are to be coincided with the development of navigational equipment and increase of traffics on the sea fairway. Supplementary function or side effect of wharf-edge illumination would be effective to indicate fairway indirectly and collision avoidance between ships and bridge against background light in port area at night also a serious-view light on the bridge posts would be effective to ensure the drifting ships by wind and current force adjacent bridge area.

  • Although underdrainage has been studied for a long time, it is the third attempt in korea to execute, using P. V. C.(plastic) suction pipes in the low and wet fields. First, three execution plots and three control plots were set, then the drainage method and volume, soil temperature, growth and yield of crops, and under ground water level in the execution plot have been examined. These experiments have conducted with No-ngnim No 6(rice), and Palgweng (rice) which are the recommended varieties. And the above experiments have been executed for seven months between January and July. 1970. The experimenntal method adopted and the results obtained through the exeperiments are as follows:

  • In this paper, the second order time mean forces acting on the circular cylinder floating on the free surface of a finite water depth are calculated. Under the assumption that fluid is idea and the wave the linear gravity wave, the velocity potential is calculated by the source distribution method, and the second order time mean lateral and vertical drifting forces are calculated by the direct integration of fluid pressures over the immersed body surface. The comparison of the lateral drifting forces with Rhee's results by momentum theorem shows good agreements. And it is shown that the second order time sinkage forces of a floating circular cylinder cross zero for all water depths.

  • Numerical wave tank is a robust tool by which the nonlinear interactions between the body and the free-surface can be treated in time-domain. In this paper, a two-dimensional numerical wave tank based on the Spectral/Boundary-Element Method is developed, and applied successfully to the study of nonlinear wave diffraction around a submerged circular cylinder. Particularly, it is shown that the high-order wave components of significant wave height are developed in the lee-side of the cylinder and that these waves result in a negative drift force on the circular cylider.

  • The Spar platform with deep draft is characterized as effective structure in extreme wave condition, which has larger natural period than that of waves in sea. In this paper, the time domain simulation of motion responses of Spar with catenary mooring line is presented in irregular waves. The memory effect is modeled by added mass at infinite frequency and convolution integrals in terms of wave damping coefficients. The added mass, wave damping coefficients and wave exciting forces are obtained from three-dimensional panel method in the frequency domain. The motion equations are consisted of forces for inertia, memory effect, hydrostatic restoring, wave exciting and mooring line. The forces of mooring line are modeled as quasi-static catenary cable.
