A 4-year-old Thoroughbred stallion was referred to J&C Equine Hospital with a quarter crack of the right front foot. On visual inspection, there was a medial quarter crack with laminar necrosis. The first step to treat this problem was to remove the necrotized tissue around the crack using Dremel tools, disinfecting crack, administering antibiotics through regional limb perfusion and systemically administering antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs consistently. After one month's anti-inflammatory management, the quarter crack was treated successfully using two series of wiring with one week's term and polymethylmethacrylate composites (Equilox㉿). After treatment, this racehorse successfully resumed training and racing in Korea Racing Authority Seoul Race Course, and won three times, finishing second and third place once, out of thirteen starts.

Monodisperse polymer particles were prepared via one-step seeded polymerization using PMMA seed particles and HDDA (or EGDMA) as crosslinking monomer. For the study, the effects of 1) the ratio of the absorbed monomer or monomer mixture to the seed polymer particles (swelling ratio), 2) the ratio of EGDMA in absorbed monomer mixture, 3) the dosage of initiator, and 4) electro less Ni plating on the variation of mechanical properties of monodisperse polymer particles, such as recovery rate, K-values, breaking strength and breaking displacement, were investigated by using MCT (micro compression test). It was observed that monomer swelling ratio influenced only breaking strength, but EGDMA ratio in monomer mixture, dosage of initiator and electroless Ni plating affected both K-values and breaking strength.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the radiolucency for the phantom output to the 3D printing technology. The 3D printing technology was applied for FDM (fused deposition modeling) method and was used the material of ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) resin. The phantom was designed in cylindrical uniformity. An image uniformity was measured by a cross-sectional images of the 3D printed phantom obtained from the CT equipment. The evaluation of radiolucency was measured exposure dose by the inserted ion-chamber from the 3D printed phantom. As a results, the average of uniformity in the cross-sectional CT image was 2.70 HU and the correlation of radiolucency between PMMA CT phantom and 3D printed ABS phantom is found to have a high correlation to 0.976. In the future, this results will be expected to be used as the basis for the phantom production of the radiation quality control by used 3D printing technology.
The polymer blends of waste polyvinyl chloride (RPVC) and waste polyethylene(RPE) were prepared by melt mixing, and their morphology and tensile properties were evaluated after the copolymers having an ethylene group in backbone and ester group in side position were added as comptatibilizers. The blend compositions were varied as follows ; RPVC/RPE 85/15 wt%, where RPVC formed a continuous phase : 50/50, mid composition : 15/85, RPE a continuous phase. The blends revealed a very low compatibility between component polymers because they showed domain sizes greater than $10\mu\textrm{m}$ over all compositions, especially the worst compatibility around mid composition. The blends showed higher compatibility when ethylene vinylacetate copolymer(EVA) and ethylene ethylacrylate-graft-methyl methacrylate copolymers(EEA-MMA) were added.

Monodisperse polymer particles were prepared via one- step seeded polymerization using PMMA as seed particles, and HDDA, triEGDMA or EGDMA as crosslinking monomer. For the study, the effects of 1) the ratio of the absorbed monomer to the seed polymer particles (swelling ratio), 2) the characteristics of crosslinking monomer, 3) electroless Ni plating, and 4) electroless Au Plating on the variation of mechanical properties of polymer particles, such as recovery rate, K-values, breaking strength and breaking displacement were investigated by using MCT (micro compression test). It was observed that swelling ratio of polymer particles influenced only on breaking strength of polymer Particles, while electroless plating did on recovery rate, K-values ($K_{10}\;and\;K_{20}$) and breaking strength of electroless plated polymer particles. However, breaking displacement and K-values ($K_{30}{\sim}K_{50}$) were more or less insensitive to electroless plating.
Starch was grafted by poly(methyl methacrylate) through the emulsion polymerization method. Modified starch/(acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber) (NBR) compounds were prepared by a latex blend method. The morphology, thermal properties and mechanical properties of the modified starch/carbon black/NBR composites were investigated with the change of starch concentration. The mechanical properties of the composites were improved by the addition of modified starch. But, when the concentration of modified starch was higher than 40 phr, the mechanical properties were deteriorated due to the poor dispersion of modified starch. At the same ratio of starch to carbon black, the composite showed a synergistic reinforcing effect by the good dispersion and high cross-linking density. In addition, the tensile strength, storage modulus, hardness, swelling and other properties were the best.

Two types of polymer-based optical splitters with $200{\mu}m$ large core are presented for optical multimode networks, such as smart home networks, intelligent automotive networks, etc. Optical splitters that have 1:1 symmetric and 9:1 asymmetric structure were fabricated by a ultra violet(UV)-imprint technology using a deep etched Si(silicon) master by the Bosch process. In this paper, we successfully fabricated the symmetric and asymmetric optical splitters with suitable optical network applications.
Graft copolymerized polycarboxylate(PC)-type superplasticizers which have carboxylic acid with $\pi$ bond among the molecular structure and polyethyleneglycol methyl ether methacrylate(PMEM) were synthesized by free radical reaction. To investigate their chemical structures and molecular weights, PCs were analyzed by FT-IR(fourier transform spectrometer), C-NMR(nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer) and GPC(gel permeation chromatograpy). When types of carboxylic acids(methacrylic acid, acrylic acid, maleic anhydride, and itaconic acid) and molar ratios of carboxylic acid/PMEM) were varied, adsorptive and fluid characteristics in cement paste were discussed. As the molar ratio of carboxylic acid/PMEM) was higher, amount adsorbed on the cement particles and the fluidity of cement paste by mini-slump spread testing method were increased. When main chain of PC was methacrylic acid, a larger amount was adsorbed on the cement particles. PCs with acrylic acid as main chain showed higher dispersing power. However, it was confirmed that PCs with dicarboxylic acids(maleic anhydride, itaconic acid) didn't have good adsorption and dispersibility.
Conductive polyaniline (PANI) nanofibers in UV-curable resin were used for a transparent conductive film. The emeraldine-salt PANI (ES-PANI) nanofibers were prepared by chemical oxidation polymerization of aniline, which could be changed into emeraldine-base PANI by dedoping. EB-PANI nanofibers as a precursor for conductive fillers were thereby transformed into re-dpoed PANI (rES-PANI) by dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid in the UV-curable resin solution. rES-PANI nanofibers have high conductivity and long-term stability in the solution without a defect of nanostructure. The resulting conductive resin solution was proved to be highly stable where no precipitation of rES-PANI fillers was observed over a period of 3 months. The transparent film was spin-casted on a poly(methyl methacrylate) sheet of thickness ca. $5{\mu}m$. A surface resistance of $6.5{\times}10^8{\Omega}/sq$ and transmittance at 550 nm of 91.1% were obtained for the film prepared with a concentration of 1.4 wt% rES-PANI nanofibers in the solution. This transformation process of rES-PANI from ES-PANI by dedoping-redoping can be an alternative method for the preparation of an antistatic protection film with controllable surface resistance and optical transparencies with the PANI concentration in UV-curable solution.

The miscibility between poly(L-lactide) (PLLA) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) was investigated using thermal analyses for the purpose of developing birefringence-free material at oriented state. The effect of methyl acrylate (MA) units as comonomer of PMMA on the miscibility was also studied. All the blends prepared in this study show composition-dependent single $T_g$'s between those of blend components and high transparency over the visible region, indicating the miscibility at molecular level and no discernible effect of MA units on it. No phase separation was observed at elevated temperature of $280^{\circ}C$, higher than the degradation of PLLA and PMMA. The interaction energy density in PLLA/PMMA blends with 17 mol% of MA was measured to be $-0.74J/cm^3$ from the equilibrium melting temperature depression based on the Hoffman-Weeks method. The blends show zero-${\Delta}$n behavior at a specific mixing ratio and the drawing ratio of 3 due to compensation of intrinsic orientation birefringence. Birefringence dispersion of PLLA/PMMA5 blends was also measured to examine the possibility for quarter-wave plates or polarizer protective films.
