The hyaluronic acid (HA) with excellent biocompatibility has been combined with lactide, the ester dimer of polylactide, with good biodegradability to produce biocompatible materials which can control the period of degradation in a human body. By freeze frying method, HA and lactide were crosslinked with crosslinking agent, 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethyl aminopropyl) carbodiimide (EDC). Degree of lactide and EDC reaction was determined by the analysis of nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Both lactyl group and EDC conversion increased as the mole ratio of lactide to HA increased from 5 to 13. The membrane swelled less and became more brittle with the more addition of lactyl group resulting from the higher mole ratio of lactide to HA. Swelling ratio decreased and tensile modulus increased due to the more addition of lactyl group as the EDC concentration increased or reaction temperature decreased. Drug release experiment from various membranes with different degree of crosslinking showed that permeability decreased with increasing degree of crosslinking. The degradation became slower with the more addition of lactyl group. Mechanical property and degradation rate of the synthesized membrane were shown to be controlled through adjusting operation parameters such as mole ratio, temperature, and crosslinking agent concentration.
The polycarbonate (PC)-based optical diffusers for direct-lit LED backlight unit were prepared by using extrusion compounding followed by compression molding process. The application of inorganic porous silica particles as a diffusing agent in addition to conventional poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) beads was attempted, and the optical, thermal, and mechanical properties of the prepared diffusers were investigated. The morphological observations revealed that the diffusing agents could be uniformly dispersed in the PC matrix without agglomeration by high shear stress generated during extrusion process. The incorporation of the porous silica particles mixed with PMMA beads remarkably enhanced the luminance uniformity with respect to both location and view angle for the diffuser, while minimizing the reduction in the absolute luminance, as compared with the diffuser containing only PMMA beads. In addition, thermal and mechanical properties of the diffusers were shown to be improved upon addition of the porous silica particles.
Cellulose diacetate (CDA) nanocomposite films were prepared by using various plasticizer and montmorillonite nanofiller in methylene chloride/ethanol (9:1 w/w) mixed solution. The thermal property (T$_{g}$) of prepared CDA films was observed by DSC and T$_{g}$ of the films was decreased with the increase in the plasticizer content. The degree of dispersion of MMT in the CDA film was observed by XRD and mechanical property of CDA film was measured by tensile strength and Young's modulus. When the plasticizer was added into the CDA film upto 30 wt%, the Young's modulus of film was decreased from 1930 MPa to 1131 MPa but was increased from 1731 MPa to 2272 MPa when the MMT was added into the film upto 7 wt%. The mechanical properties of CDA films were decreased by addition of plasticizer but strengthened by the incorporation of MMT.

Gas permeability of low density polyethylene (LDPE) film containing zeolite powder for $CO_2,\;O_2$ and $N_2$ were investigated. Zeolite powders modified by cations or surfactant were compounded with LDPE to produce $20 wt\%$ masterbatch. After blending the masterbatch with LDPE, zeolite filled films were prepared by the blown film process. Finally, the composite films containing zeolite loadings of 0, 3,5, and $10 wt\%$ were produced. A gas permeability apparatus based on the variable volume principle was designed to analyze the characteristics of films. Experiments showed a general trend that gas permeabilities first decreased and then increased as the zeolite content was increased. Surfactant modified zeolite showed a better interfacial adhesion with the matrix, but the film did not show a discernible difference in gas permeability compared with the other modified films. The difference of temperature dependences in the gas permeabilities of composite films was slightly smaller than that of LDPE film.

Environmental problems due to waste tire and waste plastics let us develop practical and economically feasible products. For this purpose, the characteristics of waste tire/plastic composites including various additives were examined using internal mixer. Experimental results indicated that the tensile strength and the flexural strength of waste tire/plastic composites decreased with the waste tire content. When 20 wt% of PP was added to the waste tire (60 wt%)/HDPE composites, the tensile strength was 1.5 times higher than the composite without PP, It was also found that the strain at break of composites increased by 2.5 times with 10 wt% addition of ethylene vinyl acetate and styrene ethylene butylenes styrene respectively. When 10 wt% of glass fiber was added to waste tire (60 wt%)/ HDPE composites, the tensile strength was 63% higher than the composite without glass fiber.
PLGA and PCL copolymers initiated by carbitol as drug carriers were synthesized by ring-opening polymerization of L-lactide (LA), glycolide (GA), and $\varepsilon-caprolactone(\varepsilon-CL)$. Implantable wafers were simply fabricated by direct compression method after physical mixing of copolymers and bovine serum albumin-fluorescein isothiocyanate (BSA-FITC) as a model protein drug. The release amounts of BSA-FITC from wafers were determined by fluorescence intensity using the fluorescence spectrophotometer. Also, the release behavior of BSA-FITC on wafers was controlled by adding the additives such as collagen, small intestinal submucosa (SIS), poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP), and poly(thylene glycol) (PEG). The wafer prepared by PLGA and PCL exhibited slow release within $10\%$ for 30 days. But, those prepared by a variety of additives exhibited the controlled BSA release patterns with a dependence on the additive contents. furthermore, the wafers containing natural materials such as collagen and SIS showed more zero-order release profile than that with synthetic materials such as PVP and PEG. It was confirmed that the release of BSA from implantable wafers could be easily controlled by adding natural additives.

The latex modified concrete(LMC) was adds latex in the plain concrete as the latex has increase the durability of concrete. But it is added in LMC manufacture, which is a high price compares with different material and there is a weak point where the construction expense is very high. So, this study are decided mix proportion from the scope where the security strong point of LMC is possible and reduced the material expense by control the latex contents. and these mix proportions are estimated the chloride ion diffusion. The results of study appear that it can reduced the latex content until the $5{\sim}10$% of cements, and these mixtures are very low chloride ion diffusion.

Zaltoprofen is a propionic acid derivative of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and has been widely used in the treatment of a number of arthritic conditions or lumbago. Zaltoprofen has low water solubility and low bioavailability, therefore great efforts have been devoted to enhance the extent of drug adsorption. In this study, zaltoprofen was formulated into a tablet to enhance the bioavailability and to achieve sustained-release using additives such as lactose monohydrate, carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC). Fourier transform-infrared (FTIR) and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) were employed to study the structure and crystallization of zaltoprofen in the tablet with various contents of additives. It was found that additives had interactions with zaltoprofen and inhibited the crystallization of zaltoprofen. Tablets containing low viscosity HPMC showed a higher release than those containing high viscosity HPMC. Also, as the amount of CMC increased zaltoprofen release increased.
To study the effect of surface crosslinked layer on the crosslinked poly(sodium acrylate) (cPSA) absorbent, we synthesized several surface crosslinked cPSAs with 5, 10 and 20 g of ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) by an inverse emulsion polymerization method to delay the absorption of excess water in concrete. We measured the compressive and flexural strength of mortars having 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 wt% cPSA-EGDMA. We observed the increase of compressive and flexural strength of the cPSA-EGDMA added cement mortars except for the 0.5 wt% cPSA-EGDMA (20 g) added cement mortar. 1.0 wt% cPSA-EGDMA (5 g) added cement mortar showed about 16% and 10% increased compressive and flexural strength than those of plain cement mortar. To study the effect of porosity on compressive and flexural strength, we used FE-SEM and porosimeter. FE-SEM analysis showed swollen cPSMAEGDMA (5 g) filled between calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) crystals. We observed the decreased porosity of the cPSA-EGDMA added cement mortars than that of plain cement mortar. 1.0 wt% cPSA-EGDMA (5 g) cement mortar showed the lowest porosity of 16.5%.

In this study, it was attempted to disperse carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in a polymer matrix using a twin-screw extruder which was good for dispersing fillers of micron sizes but not suitable for dispersing nanometer-sized materials. Improved dispersion of CNTs could be achieved by the addition of inorganic fillers with different geometrical shapes. An increase in the matrix viscosity provided a high shear stress on aggregated CNTs, leading to a good dispersion of CNTs. The presence of the inorganic fillers was supposed to suppress the re-aggregation of CNTs in the regions where a lower shear stress was applied. As a result, the CNTs dispersion was well stabilized.
