  • Tracing an evolutionary technological trajectory in the macroscopic viewpoint is useful for technology policy, but not for corporate technology and intellectual property strategy. Tackling this issue, recent bibliometric studies using patents and papers have made efforts to identify more specific and detailed technological trajectory. However, these studies cannot go beyond simple description of the past trajectory. Also, identification of technology fusion and evolution relies on experts judgments. We suggest a way of identifying microscopic evolutionary technological trajectories by combining patent citation network analysis with dynamic technology tree. Also, using new indicators of generality, diversity and novelty, we can detect key technologies that can be a starting point of next generation technology and derivative technology. HVDC(High Voltage DC transmission) system technology is exemplified.

  • WBI provides new opportunities to realize the flexible learning environment based on hypermedia and to support distance learning with a diverse interaction. The instructors or learners in WBI claim to be able to resolve reluctant fluctuations such as disorientation and cognitive overload. To overcome these phenomena, a supplementary tool able to manage a learning space organized by the instructor's or learner's own way and offer effective navigation techniques is presented in this paper. A learning space management and navigation tool called HyperMap dynamically represents the learning space in the form of a two-dimensional labeled graph. This HyperMap also can be used for an instruction design tool, learners portfolio for the exchange of learning experiences, and the assessment of WBI.

  • Ubiquitous Smart Space(USS) like u-City has been expected to create a high added value. However, developing USS has a high risk because it should use future technologies and development methodologies that have been never tried in the past. Hence, it has to be considered thoroughly in the very first stage of development. Moreover, USS usually uses several ubiquitous computing technologies combinationally because of the nature of USS. Despite of this, existing technology selection methodologies or technology evaluation methodologies only focus on a single technology. This leads us to develop a methodology of optimal technology combination for developing a specific USS. The purpose of this paper is to propose the methodology and to apply it to develop a real USS. We use portfolio theory and constraint satisfaction problem to determine an optimal technology combination. We also apply our methodology to the national ubiquitous computing project which carries out at present to validate it.

  • In recent years, outsourcing of information systems, including decision support systems has become a key method for managing the system portfolio of a corporation. Since the outsourced DSSs provide their own models and solvers, which may be created on the basis of different modeling practices and system platforms, the decision maker wishing to solve business problems using the outsourced DSSs frequently faces a difficulty in selecting and/or applying appropriate models and solvers to the problems on hand. This paper proposes a DSS outsourcing architecture that enables a user to discover and execute appropriate models and solvers, even though the user is not knowledgeable enough about all the details of the models and solvers. Specifically, this paper adopts a Web services approach to integrate the heterogeneous models and solvers by encapsulating individual models and solvers as Web services and hiding all system specific implementation details from the users.

  • This paper introduces household's decision for schooling and firm's decision for technology-specific training together into the second generation model of endogenous innovation, and analyses how schooling and technology-specific training interact each other, how they respectively affect innovation and economic growth, and also how the portfolio mix of schooling and technology-specific training changes as economy becomes more innovative. Main results are as follows: First, schooling and technology-specific training both have "inverted-U"shape growth effects. Second, schooling investment per labor required for growth maximization is always greater than that for firm profit maximization. Third, the optimal schooling for growth maximization decreases with technology-specific training. Fourth, the schooling effect on technology-specific training is "U"shaped, so that for firm's profit maximization schooling is substitutable for technology-specific training at the relatively lower level of schooling but complementary at its relatively higher level. Fifth, as economy becomes more innovative, the portfolio mix of education changes in favor of schooling.

  • In recent years, ESG investment is increasing worldwide, and awareness of ESG risks such as environment, society, and governance is increasing, and non-financial investments are considered when making investment decisions. With the recent Corvid 19 crisis, the focus is on the environment, and investments related to bio and health are gaining popularity, while new investments are completely suspended in coal-related businesses, and decisions are made in the direction of sequential termination or withdrawal of existing businesses This has resulted in an increasing number of managers setting climate change and sustainability as top priorities in their investment portfolios. As a result, it is necessary to present effective countermeasures to changes in the investment environment, and to make efforts to respond and prepare an investment system that can help build a risk management system. Therefore, I would like to briefly review the ESG investment trends and present implications considering shared growth and mutual benefit.

  • We herein analyze the service traffic characteristics and spectrum of the 5G mobile communication and suggest the effective 5G network deployment method for 5G mobile communication services. The data rates of the 5G mobile communication are from several kbps (voice and IoT) up to 1 Gbps (hologram, among others). The 5G mobile communication services show the diverse cell coverage environments owing to the use of diverse service data rates and multiple spectrum bands. To effectively support the 5G mobile communication services, the network deployment requires the optimization of the service coverages for new service environments and multiple spectrum bands. Considering the 5G spectrum bandwidth debated at present, if the 5G services of 100 Mbps can be supported in the 200 m cell edge using the 3.5 GHz spectrum bands, the 5G services of the 1 Gbps hologram and 500-Mbps 4k UHD can be supported in the cell edges of 50 m and 100 m using the 28 GHz spectrum bands. Therefore, the 5G services can be supported effectively by the 5G network deployment using spectrum portfolio configurations to match the diverse 5G services and multiple bands.
