Basic Study of the Improvement of Maintenance Process for Efficient Highway Pavement Management (효율적인 고속도로 포장유지관리를 위한 유지관리프로세스 개선방안 기초연구)

  • The expressway is a key area of road networks for national industry, economics and social development. In addition, the number of lines are increasing continuously. Recently, road management policy have shown a paradigm shift to safe road, low-carbon and green etc. Nevertheless, the road condition has deteriorated dramatically by fatigue cracking, thermal cracking and weather impact. On the other hand, the budgets for highway maintenance have shrunk dramatically. In this study, an effective pavement management and maintenance process was developed to extend the pavement serviceability and pavement life to overcome the rack of budgets.

  • In this study, developed economic and efficient Pavement Management System (PMS) that can produce suitable M/R method through estimation and analysis of pavement condition exactly, to overcome past unscientific pavement management limitations. First on the basis of data of the inside and outside of the country on PMS and pavement condition data of Seoul metropolitan, composed logical algorithm such as pavement condition investigation and analysis, detailed eye investigation whole system estimation etc, and it verified that this algorithm is suitable system through the inside and outside of the county PMS research examples and results of detailed eye investigation. Also, Considering user interface, developed PMS program and GIS program with such logical algorithm.

  • Pavement Management System has a special purpose that the rehabilitation strategy applied on pavement should be executable in view of technical and economical point after new pavement open to the traffic. To achieve that purpose, a reliable pavement performance prediction model should be embeded in the system. The object of this study is to develop a probabilistic pavement performance prediction model for evaluating asphalt pavements based on the Markov chain concept. In this paper, methodology of the Markov chain modeling principle is explained, and the application of this model to asphalt pavement is described. As the results, transition matrics for predicting asphalt pavement performance are obtained, and also performance life is estimated quantitatively by this system.

  • The management of existing airfield pavement information has currently become difficult and the maintenance cost has increased over time due to the long-term performance. It is needed to develop the method for effective budget allocation and systematic airfield pavement management services. The objectives of this paper are to introduce Micro PAVER, one of the popular pavement management systems, into our management system and customize Micro PAVER based on our environment and pavement management level. This study focused on the analysis on logics and structures of Micro PAVER and customization of important parts in the program using the existing pavement evaluation data and survey method. Customized items selected in this study included the pavement deterioration prediction models, critical PCI, maintenance cost by PCI, maintenance or rehabilitation method and unit cost, and PCI rank.

  • Maintenance cost for managing the whole network of Expressway system in Korea increases rapidly with the increase of the total length of the system. Implementation of the Pavement Management System(PMS) is essential for efficient management of the Expressway with a limited budget. The purpose of this study is to develop the main algorithm of PMS for Korea Expressway System and to associate the algorithm with database and the Highway Geographic Information System(HGIS) recently developed. Emphasis is laid on developing the algorithm as easy as possible, so that the users can use the PMS without practical difficulty. PMS is not the decision maker, but just a supporting system for the user. The algorithm is designed in such a way that the users can modify the decision criteria if necessary. The user is the one who makes the final decision of the priority and the maintenance alternatives. The users can also inquire the current condition of the whole Expressway network in detail by association of the database and the algorithm with HGIS.

  • 국내 도로포장의 주요 파손형태는 주변환경 및 반복 교통하중 조건에 의한 소성변형(rutting), 피로균열, 반사균열, 온도균열 등이 있는데, 포장이 설계수명에 도달하기 이전에 주로 발생하며 이로 인한 도로포장의 유지관리에 막대한 국가예산이 낭비되고 있는 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 토목섬유 아스팔트 포장 시스템을 체계적으로 정립하기 위해 휠트래킹 시험과 균열저항성 시험을 수행하여 토목섬유 아스팔트 포장의 소성변형 및 균열 저항성을 분석하였다. 이러한 실험결과를 통해 아스팔트 포장에서의 토목섬유 보강 효과가 평가되었다.

Priority Area Prediction Service for Local Road Packaging Maintenance Using Spatial Big Data (공간 빅데이터를 활용한 지방도 포장보수 우선지역 예측 서비스)

  • The current status of local road pavement management in Jeollabuk-do only relies on the accomplishments of the site construction company's pavement repair and is only managed through Microsoft Excel and word documents. Furthermore, the budget is irregular each year. Accordingly, a systematic maintenance plan for local roads is necessary. In this paper, data related to road damage and road environment were collected and processed to derive possible areas which could suffer from road damage. The effectiveness of the methodology was reviewed through the on-site inspection of the area. According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, in 2018, the number of damages on general national roads were about 47,000. In 2019, it reached around 38,000. Furthermore, the number of lawsuits regarding the road damages were about 93 in 2018 and it increased to 119 in 2019. In the case of national roads, the number of damages decreased compared to 2018 due to pavement repairs. To measure the priorities in maintenance of local roads at Jeollabuk-do, data on maintenance history, local port hole occurrence site, overlapping business section, and emergency maintenance section were transformed into data. Eventually, it led to improvements in maintenance of local roads. Furthermore, spatial data were constructed using various current status data related to roads, and finally the data was processed into a new form that could be utilized in machine learning and predictions. Using the spatial data, areas requiring maintenance on pavement were predicted and the results were used to establish new budgets and policies on road management.
