  • In this paper, a post-tensioned reinforced concrete slab was analyzed by the specially orthotropic laminates theory. Both the geometrical and material property of the cross section of the slab was considered symmetrically with respect to the neutral surface so that the bending extension coupling stiffness, $B_{ij}=0$, and $D_{16}=D_{26}=0$. Reinforced concrete slab behave as specially orthotropic plates. In general, the analytical solution for such complex systems is very difficult to obtain. Thus, finite difference method was used for analysis of the problem. In this paper, the finite difference method and the beam theory were used for analysis. The result of beam analysis was modified to obtain the solution of the plate analysis.

  • This research was conducted to analyze the behavior of the post-tensioned concrete pavement (PTCP) system in which weigh-in-motion (WIM) sensors were installed. One lane of PTCP was constructed after removing the existing asphalt pavement. The frictional resistance between the slab and the underlying layer should be small enough for the PTCP slab to properly have prestresses by tensioning. By performing an experimental construction of PTCP, the friction effects and the longitudinal displacements of PTCP under environmental loads were investigated. Based on the knowledge obtained from the experiments, the actual PTCP sections including WIM sensors were constructed and the curling behavior of the system was investigated. As a result, the behavior of the PTCP system was not affected by the existence of WIM sensors, and the appropriate PTCP system when installing WIM sensors in it could be developed.

  • This study evaluates the seismic performance of post-tensioned flat plate structures with or without slab bottom reinforcement. For this purpose, 3 and 9 story frames were designed only considering gravity loads. This study conducts a nonlinear static pushover analysis. This study was an analytical model that is able to represent punching shear failure and fracture mechanism. The analytical results showed that the seismic performance of a post-tension flat plate is strongly influenced by the existence of slab bottom reinforcement through column. By placing slab bottom reinforcement in a PT flat plate frame, lateral strength and max drift capacity are significantly increased.

  • The flat slab is well-known as a structural system to reduce the story height, so it is broadly used for recent building. However, the normal RC flat slab is not appropriate for the long span, and the quantity of reinforcement bar and concrete is raised. Recently, the post-tensioning system has been introduced and used widely as an alternative method. Nevertheless, in Korea, it is not used broadly due to lack of the understanding and field experience. Especially, the post-tensioning system is hesitated to use due to uncertainty of construction ability and economics. This paper will introduce applicability to site and economics of unbonded post-tensioning system through construction examples.

  • Experimental Post-Tensioned Concrete Pavement(PTCP) was constructed on October 13, 2008 for the first time in Korea. The length of PTCP main slab is 120m and the slab thickness is 15cm, while the width is 8.2m. From this study, design, analysis, and construction for PTCP are experienced and many data were obtained. The primary results of this study was also summarized.

  • This research was conducted to analyze the behavior of PTCP (Post-Tensioned prestressed Concrete Pavement) under tensioning by performing field tests when the experimental PTCP slab was being constructed. The displacements in the slab under the environmental loading and tensioning were measured using temperature measurement sensors and displacement transducers. Tensioning was performed three times and appropriateness of tensioning could be determined by investigating the relationship between temperature and displacement, behavior of transverse crack, and daily change in displacement. The results of this study showed that under the first tensioning at very early age, large displacements were observed only near the joints because of the friction between slab and underlying layer and concrete inelasticity. Under consecutive tensioning, displacements were clearly observed all over the slab, but still affected by the friction. In addition, appropriate tensioning ensured the one-slab behavior of the PTCP slab even though cracks existed.

  • This study was conducted to develop the design methodology of gap slabs for the post-tensioned concrete pavement (PTCP). The gap slabs were considered as unbonded, half bonded, and bonded types. According to the types of the gap slabs, the curling stresses were investigated first under the environmental loads. The stresses due to the vehicle loads were analyzed considering both the single and tandem axles. The method to calculate the prestressing amount was suggested by comparing the combined stresses due to both loads and the allowable tensile stress of concrete. The prestressing amount for the unbonded type gap slab could be designed by considering only the gap slab; however, for the half bonded and bonded gap slabs, the whole PTCP slab should be analyzed to properly design the prestressing amount.
