This paper presents the closing analysis of a symmetric steel cable-stayed bridge erected by a free cantilever method. Two independent structural systems are formed before the closing procedure of a bridge is performed, and thus the compatibility conditions for vertical displacement and rotational angle are not satisfied at the closing section without the application of proper sectional forces. Since, however, it is usually impossible to apply sectional forces at the closing section, the compatibility conditions should be satisfied by proper external forces that can be actually applicable to a bridge. Unstrained lengths of selected cables and the pull-up force of a derrick crane are adjusted to satisfy nonlinear compatibility conditions, which are solved iteratively by the Newton-Raphson method. Cable members are modeled by the elastic catenary cable elements, and towers and main girders are discretized by linear 3-D frame elements. The sensitivities of displacement with respect to the unstrained lengths of selected cables and the pull-up force of the derrick crane are evaluated by the direct differentiation of the equilibrium equation. A Monte-Carlo simulation approach is proposed to estimate expected construction errors for a given confidence level. The proposed method is applied to the second Jindo Grand Bridge to demonstrate its validity and effectiveness.
This paper describes the technical background for the Korean wildlife radiation dose assessment code, K-BIOTA, and the summary of its application. The K-BIOTA applies the graded approaches of 3 levels including the screening assessment (Level 1 & 2), and the detailed assessment based on the site specific data (Level 3). The screening level assessment is a preliminary step to determine whether the detailed assessment is needed, and calculates the dose rate for the grouped organisms, rather than an individual biota. In the Level 1 assessment, the risk quotient (RQ) is calculated by comparing the actual media concentration with the environmental media concentration limit (EMCL) derived from a bench-mark screening reference dose rate. If RQ for the Level 1 assessment is less than 1, it can be determined that the ecosystem would maintain its integrity, and the assessment is terminated. If the RQ is greater than 1, the Level 2 assessment, which calculates RQ using the average value of the concentration ratio (CR) and equilibrium distribution coefficient (Kd) for the grouped organisms, is carried out for the more realistic assessment. Thus, the Level 2 assessment is less conservative than the Level 1 assessment. If RQ for the Level 2 assessment is less than 1, it can be determined that the ecosystem would maintain its integrity, and the assessment is terminated. If the RQ is greater than 1, the Level 3 assessment is performed for the detailed assessment. In the Level 3 assessment, the radiation dose for the representative organism of a site is calculated by using the site specific data of occupancy factor, CR and Kd. In addition, the K-BIOTA allows the uncertainty analysis of the dose rate on CR, Kd and environmental medium concentration among input parameters optionally in the Level 3 assessment. The four probability density functions of normal, lognormal, uniform and exponential distribution can be applied. The applicability of the code was tested through the participation of IAEA EMRAS II (Environmental Modeling for Radiation Safety) for the comparison study of environmental models comparison, and as the result, it was proved that the K-BIOTA would be very useful to assess the radiation risk of the wildlife living in the various contaminated environment.

The $ν_a+amide II$ combination band of thiopropionamide has been recorded for investigation of Hydrogen bonding between thiopropionamide (TPA) and N,N-dimethylalkylamide (DMF, DMA and DMP) in carbon tetrachloride over the range of $5^{\circ}$ to $55^{\circ}$. The combination band of monomeric TPA and hydrogen-bonded TPA can be resolved by Lorentzian-Gaussian product function into monomeric TPA and hydrogen-bonded TPA with amides. The association constants ($K_1$) for the hydrogen-bonded TPA were calculated by the concentrations of the monomeric TPA and the hydrogen-bonded TPA obtained from the computer resolved absorption bands. Thermodynamic parameters for the Hydrogen bonding have been evaluated by the analysis of the temperature dependent spectra. The ${\Delta}$$H^{\circ}$ of hydrogen-bonded TPA with DMF, DMA and DMP have been found to be-12.5, -13.5 and -14.1 kJ/mol, respectively. The corresponding ${\Delta}$$S^{\circ}$for the above system were -15.2, -17.9 and -22.3 J/mol${\cdot}$deg, respectively.
Shallow slope failures in residual soil during periods of prolonged infiltration are common in Korea. This study examines an infinite slope analysis to estimate the influence of infiltration on surficial stability of slopes by the limit equilibrium method. Approximate method which is based on the Green-Ampt model have been considered to evaluate the likelihood of shallow slope failure which is induced by a particular rainfall event that accounts for the rainfall intensity and duration for various return periods. Pradel & Raad method which is devised to predict the depth of wetting front to decomposed granite soil slopes having measured soil-water characteristic curves. To compare the results with those obtained from the Pradel & Raad method, a series of numerical analysis using SEEP/W were carried out. It was found that the stability analysis of unsaturated soils calculated by using the soil-water characteristic curve of decomposed granite soils was found to be a proper analysis for shallow slope failures due to rainfall.

The wetting balance test was performed in an attempt to estimate the wetting properties of the UBM-coated Si-wafer on one side to the Sn-Pb solder. The wetting curves of the one and both side-coated UBM layers had the similar shape and the parameters characterizing the curve shape showed the similar transition tendency to the temperature. The wetting property estimation was possible with the new wettability indices from the wetting curves of one side-coated specimen; $F_{min}$, $F_{s}t_{s}$ and $t_s$. For UBM of Si-chip, Au/Cu/Cr UBM was better than Au/Ni/Ti in the point of wetting time. The contact angle of the one side coated Si-plate to the Sn-Pb solder could be calculated from the force balance equation by measuring the static state force and the tilt angle.

This study provides a method and data for predicting the flight initiation wind speed of wind-borne debris. From the force equilibrium acting on debris including aerodynamic and inertia forces, the equation for predicting the flight initiation wind speeds are presented. Wind tunnel tests were carried out to provide necessary aerodynamic data in the equation for the debris with various aspect ratios. The proposed equation for flight initiation wind speeds was validated from free flying tests in the wind tunnel. The flights of debris were mostly initiated by slip when width to thickness was less than 10, otherwise overturning were dominant. The actual flight initiation speeds were lower than that of the computed ones. The surface boundary layer flow and the gap between the debris and surface might affect the prediction error.
This paper presents a unified modeling technique for tension stiffening effect in structural concrete members. The model is mathematically derived from the bond stress-slip relationships which account for splitting crack. The relationships in CEB-FIP Model Code 1990 and Eurocode 2 are employed together with the assumptions of a linear slip distribution along the interface and the uniform condition of concrete tensile contribution for the mid section of cracked member at the stabilized cracking stage. With these assumptions, a model of tension stiffening effect is proposed by accounting for the force equilibrium and strain compatibility condition associated to the steel strain and concrete contribution by bond stress. The model is applied to the test results available in literatures, and the predicted values are shown to be in good agreement with the experimentally measured behavior.
This study presents an analytical method of estimating the developed horizontal active thrusts against GRS-RW( Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil Retaining Wall) system adapted to the case of distanced surcharge. In addition, the design charts that could be used for preliminary design of GRS-RW system are presented. The proposed method of analysis uses two body translation mechanism as well as force polygon concept. taking into account the effect of facing's rigidity. Besides. the effect of tension cracks in c-\Phi$ soils, seismic effects and horizontal distance from the back face of wall to uniformly distributed surcharge loadings are also included. The results of horizontal active thrusts obtained from the developed method of analysis are compared with those from Jarquio's modified Boussinesq equation.

Among various ammonium salts and metal ammine chlorides used as solid materials for the sources of ammonia with solid SCR for lean NOx reduction, magnesium ammine chloride was taken up for study in this paper because of its ease of handling and safety. Lab-scale synthetic method of magnesium ammine chloride were studied for different durations, temperatures, and pressures with proper ammonia gas charged, as a respect of ammonia gas adsorption rate(%). To understand material characteristics for lab-made magnesium ammine chloride, DA, IC, FT-IR, XRD and SDT analyses were performed using the published data available in literature. From the analytical results, the water content in the lab-made magnesium ammine chloride can be determined. A new test procedure for water removal was proposed, by which the adsorption rate of lab-made sample was found to be approximately 100%.

In this study, we aimed to make antibiotic-intercalated smectite composites using amoxicillin and clarithromycin as hygroscopic antibiotics, and gentamicin, tobramycin and netilmicin as non-hygroscopic aminoglucosides, and to check their drug delivery potential in gastric system using preliminary in-situ column release test for clarithromycinsmectite composite. All antibiotics were successfully intercalated into the interlayer of smectite by cation-exchange reaction in the batch experiment. Equilibrium batch test showed that clarithromycin-intercalation followed Langmuir isotherm and the possible maximum amount was calculated as 1.811 mmole/g. Clarithromycin was continuously released by the solutions of pH=2, 3, and 4 and the amount was decreased with pH increase.
