Change of Physical Fitness, MDA and SOD by Short-term Weight Reduction of Taekwondo Players (단기 체중감량에 따른 태권도 선수의 체력, MDA와 SOD의 변화)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the change of physical fitness, MDA, SOD after short-term weight reduction through exercise, food restriction and exhalation of sweat among Taekwondo players. The subjects ten male collage Taekwondo players with excellent practical skills, and more than seven years of experiences. They were asked to reduce about 5% of their body weight in seven days. Physical fitness levels were analyzed through grip strength, muscle endurance, flexibility, power, agility, balance, reaction time and MDA and SOD through blood test. The results of this study were as follows; First, there was no significant change in physical fitness due to short-term weight reduction in muscle strength, muscle endurance, flexibility, power, agility, balance and reaction time. Second, The change of MDA and SOD, resulting from short-term weight reduction did not show significant difference statistically. Therefore, the results of this study indicate that the Taekwondo players' short-term weight reduction of 5% of their body weight did not influence on their athletic performance and physiological capacity. Therefore athletes and coaches should endeavor to take exercise, dietary, and dehydration into consideration when conducting 5% of their body weight reduction in a week.

A Comparative Study on Adsorption Characteristics of PCBs in Transformer Oil Using Various Adsorbents (여러 흡착제를 이용한 변압기 오일 중의 PCBs 흡착특성에 관한 비교연구)

  • The aim of the present study is to explore the possibility of utilizing loess and fly ash as well as activated carbon for the adsorptive removal of PCBs in transformer oil. Here, we investigated the effect of various factors such as temperature (5, 25, 55), contact time (30 min-3 day) and adsorbent does (1, 2.5, 5, 10 g) in detail. It was found that PCBs adsorption rate from transformer oil by activated carbon is more favored than loess at the equilibrium time of 60 minutes. The equilibrium data for both activated carbon and loess is fitted well to the Freundlich isotherm model. The rate constant and activation energy of PCBs adsorption in transformer oil on each adsorbent was analyzed by fitting a kinetic model at 5, 25 and $55^{\circ}C$. From the thermodynamic parameters, the PCBs adsorption process for transformer oil/activated carbon and loess system is spontaneous and endothermic in nature.

Studies on the Development of Easy Cryopreservation Technique of Bovine Embryos II. Effects of Equilibration of Cryoprotectants, Temperature and Time of Thawing and 1 Step Straw Method on In Vitro Developmental Rates of Embryos (소 수정란의 간이 동결기법 개발에 관한 연구 II. 내동제의 평형시간, 융해온도, 융해시간 및 1단계 Straw법이 체외발생에 미치는 영향)

  • The studies on the carried out to investigate to determine the optimum thawing temperature and equilibration time and 1 step straw method of frozen bovine embryos. The follicular oocytes were cultured in TCM-199 medium containing 10 IU/ml PMSG(Sigma, USA), 10 IU/ml hCG(Sigma, USA), 1 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml $\beta$-estradiol(Sigma, USA) and 10% FCS for 24~48 hrs in incubator with 5% CO2 in air at 38.5$^{\circ}C$ and then matured oocytes were again cultured for 12~18 hrs with motile capacitated sperm by preincubation of heparin. The bovine embryos following dehydration by cryoprotective agents and various concentration of sucrose were directly plunged into liquid nitrogen and thawed in 3$0^{\circ}C$ water. Survival and in vitro developmental rate was defined as developmental rate on in vitro culture or FDA-test. The results are summarized as followes : 1. The equilibration time on in vitro developmental rates of bovine embryos was attained after short period of time(2.5~5 min.) in the freezing medium higher than long period of time (10~20 min.). 2. The temperature thawed at 3$0^{\circ}C$ after rapid freezing of bovine embryos resulted in a significantly higher in vitro developmental rate than did at 2$0^{\circ}C$ and 35$^{\circ}C$. 3. The thawing time on in vitro developmental rates of bovine embryos was attained after short period of time(1~5 min.) in the freezing mediuim higher than long period of time(10min.). 4. The in vitro developmental rates of bovine embryos after rapid frozen-thawing by 1 step straw method in the freezing medium added 1.5M, 2.0M glycerol, DMSO, propanediol and 0.25M, 0.50M, 0.75M, 1.00M sucrose were 12.5~19.4%, 10.0~15.6%, 9.1~13.8% and 6.7~12.9%, respectively.

A Mechanical Model for Texture Changes and Rheological Properties of Radish During Salting (염농도의 확산에 따른 무의 물성학적 특성의 예측 model에 관한 연구)

  • The amounts of salt diffused into radish after immersing in various concentrations of salt solution at different temperatures were measured and the changes of radish texture by the salt diffusion were estimated with the viscoelastic constants of a 3 element solid model determined by a stress relaxation test. The amount of salt diffused through radish was increased with increasing the salt concentration and soaking temperature. While the instantaneous stress, equilibrium elastic solid content and viscoelastic constants of radish were decreased as salt concentration and soaking temperature increased, the stress relaxed fast. Viscoelastic constants as well as the diffusivity were influenced by salt concentration more than by soaking temperature. The rheological equations for the predictable stress changes of radish after immersed in the salt solution at various conditions (temperature, salt concentration and impure salt) were suggested as a function of time.

Synthesis of High Loading PONF-g-GMA Anion Exchange Fiber Containing Ion Exchange Resin and Their Adsorption Properties of Vanadium (이온교환 수지를 함유한 PONF-g-GMA High Loading 음이온교환 섬유의 합성 및 바나듐 흡착 특성)

  • Aminated PONF-9-GMA ion exchange fabrics were synthesized by radiation induced graft copolymerization. Hybrid ion exchange fabrics combined with aminated PONF-g-GMA fabrics and anionic ion exchange resin were also fabricated by hot melt adhesion method and then their adsorption properties were investigated. Ion exchange capacity of the hybrid ion exchange fabrics was higher than ion exchange fabric and was lower than bead resin. The maximum value was 4.18 meq/g. Adsorption breakthrough time for vanadium of the hybrid ion exchange fabric was 550 min, which was faster than bead resin but slower than fibrous ion exchanger. The Breakthrough time of the hybrid ion exchange fabrics gets longer with increasing pH. The initial breakthrough time occurred around 400 min with increasing vanadium concentration.

Absorption Characteristics of Green Tea Powder as Influenced by Particle Size (입자크기에 따른 분말 녹차의 흡습특성)

  • Absorption characteristics of green tea powder were investigated. The monolayer moisture content determined by GAB equation was 0.024~0.052 g $H_2O$/g dry solid. The absorption enthalpy was calculated with different particle size and various water activities. It showed that the absorption energy was decreased with increasing water activity but no difference was found on particle size increasement. Among models applied for predicting equilibrium moisture content, Halsey model was the best fit model for green tea powders, showing the lowest prediction deviation of 2.1~4.0%. The prediction model equations for the water activity was established as function of relative humidity, time and temperature. The model equation will be helpful for future work on drying and storage of green tea powder.

Open Pulled Straws, EM Grid, Nylon Loop법에 의한 돼지성숙난자의 유리화동결 비교

  • 돼지 난자의 유리화 동결 처리 방법 중 난자를 담는 용기(loading vessel)의 재료로 최근에 알려진 것으로 open-pulled straws(OPS)[Vajta등, Mol Reprod Dev, 51:53-58, (1998)], electron microscope grids(EMG) [Martino등,Biol Reprod, 54:1059-1069, (1996)〕, nylon loop system(NLS) [Lane등, Fertil Steril,72: 1073-1078, (1999)] 등이 보고되고 있다. OPS는 1/4cc straws를 열을 가하여 길게 뽑아 내벽을 얇게 함으로써 filing된 난자나 수정란이 액체 질소와 접촉했을 때 유리화가 신속하게 되도록 하는 방법으로 돼지에서는 별로 보고된 것이 없다. EMG는 열전도가 예민한 전자현미경용 copper grid를 이용한 방법으로 최근 국내 기술진의 연구성적을 포함한 몇몇 학자들에 의하여 보고되었고 NLS는 0.5mm직경의 nylon loop를 이용하여 급속 동결한 성적이 보고되었으나, 돼지 난자에 응용 된 것은 없다. 따라서 이와 같은 동결 재료는 사람과 반추류, mouse외에 돼지 난자에 대하여는 전혀 시도되지 않았지만 유리화 동결기술에서 가장 중요한 실험으로 생각된다. 성공적인 유리화 동결을 위해서는 수정란이 냉각의 전도성이 빠르고, 작은 용액을 수정란과 같이 filling해야 하며 모든 동작이 신속 간편해야 하며 융해 방법도 초급속도의 융해가 요구되므로 이에 부합되어야 한다. 연구 목적은 돼지 난자를 유리화 동결/융해 시 동결 재료-straw/glass, copper grid, nylon 3가지에 대한 제작 방법, 난자 loading, 동결 처리, 보관 방법, 융해 방법 등을 난자의 회수, 수정 후 생존율을 비교 조사하여 가장 우수한 방법을 선택할 목적이었다. 수행 내용은 3가지의 재료의 sample을 제작하고 소독한 다음 준비된 돼지 COCs을 40시간동안 IVM한 후 난자를 5~l5개 정도로 선정 하여 준비된 VS 용액에 평형처리 하였다. 각 재료의 용기에 loading 한 후 동결/보관하였고, 융해는 역순으로 평형하여 maturation 배지에 3~4시간 배양한 다음 경검하고 IVF한 후 NCSU-23 배지에 담아 IVC 배양하면서 cell cleavage상태를 확인하였다.

Studies on the Adsorption and Desorption Characteristics of Cu Ion Using Manganese Nodule as Adsorbent (Mn단괴를 흡착제로 한 Cu이온의 흡착 및 탈착 특성)

  • A study have been conducted for the adsorption and desorption characteristics of Cu ion using manganese nodule as adsorbent. For 100 ppm Cu ion solution, the adsorbed amount of Cu ion was more than 90 % at equilibrium state. Adsorption was equilibrated in 42 hours the adsorption reaction was shown to be first order reaction. For the desorption reaction of Cu ion in the region of solution pH 3.5~9.5, the desorption was completed in the acidic region, but it has been decreased as the pH was raised. Also, the desorption rate was higher in the acidic region compared with alkaline region. The desorbed amount was decreased as the reaction temperature increased, therefore, the desorption reaction was thought to be exothermic. Also, several thermodynamic properties were calculated based on experimental results and compared with theoretically driven values. To see the effect of complexing agent on the desorption of Cu ion, EDTA was introduced and the des orbed amount increased in the presence of EDTA.

Adsorption Characteristics of Lead on Kaolinite (카올리나이트의 납 흡착 특성)

  • The laboratory adsorption batch tests were performed to investigate the adsorption characteristics of Pb on kaolinite. The characteristics such as adsorption equilibrium time, adsorption capacity, adsorption isotherm were studied, and also the effects of pH and the mixing ratio on the adsorption of Pb on kaolinite were investigated. Test results show that the adsorption equilibrium state was reached within 24 hours, and the adsorbed amount of Pb increased, but the adsorption efficiency over the initial concentration of 198 mg/l decreased, with increasing the initial concentration of Pb. And the adsorption constant, 1/n was obtained 0.9584 by Freundlich isotherm equation. Regardless of the initial concentration of Pb. the adsorbed amount of Pb as well as the adsorption efficiency were increased with increasing pH values and converged to a certain constant value above 8 of pH values. And also the adsorbed amount of Pb increased with the mixing ratio, but its efficiency increased with the mixing ratio up to 8 and then showed the decreasing tendency above that.

A Study on Water Balance in Stationary Load Proton Exchange Membrane(PEM) Fuel Cell Power Generator (고정 부하를 갖는 PEM 연료전지 발전기에 있어서의 수분 평형에 관한 연구)

  • 일반적으로 PEM 연료전지에서는 수분 균형이 시스템의 효율에 결정적으로 영향을 미치기 때문에, 이에 대한 균형(balance)을 잡는 것이 매우 중요하다. 특히, 촉매 층에서 물이 넘치는 익수현상(flooding)이나 건조현상(drying)이 발생하게 되면 연료전지의 효율이 급격하게 저하하므로, 항상 수분의 균형이 잡히도록 시스템을 제어하는 것이 일반적이다. 이 때,수분의 익수현상이나 건조현상은 PEM 연료전지의 용량과 주위의 환경, 즉 온도와 습도에 많은 영향을 받게 된다. 금번 논문에서는 가정용 규모인 3kW급에서 10kW급까지의 PEM 연료전지를 설치하였을 때, 주위의 환경(온도와 습도)이 수분 이동에 어떠한 영향을 미치는 지를 시간에 따라서 시뮬레이션(simulation)한 결과를 보여주고 있다. 결과에서 유입공기의 온도가 $50^{\circ}C$ 이하일 경우, 고정부하가 5kW급 이하이면 대부분이 건조현상이 발생하였으나, 고정부하가 6kW급 이상이 되면 익수현상이 운전시간이 20분 이내에서 발생하였다. 또한 고정부하를 최고 10kW급까지 올린 경우, 유입공기의 온도가 $50^{\circ}C$까지는 익수현상이 발생하였으나 $60^{\circ}C$ 이상인 경우에는 거의 건조현상이 발생함을 알 수 있었다.
