  • The coarse classifying procedure in credit scoring splits the values of a continuous characteristic into bands and the values of a discrete characteristic into groups of values. Also, the scorecard degrades over time and thus we should adjust the cut-off score being used. However, the coarse classifying and the adjustment of cut-off score in credit scoring are very complicate and troublesome procedure. Thus, in this paper, we develop a software for the coarse classifying and the model evaluation by using Visual Basic Language. By using the developed software, we can find the best split in the coarse classifying and the optimal cut-off score in the model evaluation.

  • Health is an important issue due to increased life expectancy. As a result, the demand for industry and services associated with individual health, health-related programs and services will be facilitated by a method to evaluate and classify the health level of an individual based on various factors. This study suggests a methodology to measure and score an individual health level. A credit scoring model was introduced to implement the categorization of variables, construct a prediction model, and to score individual health level. Cohort DB provided by National Health Insurance Service was used to illustrate overall procedures. It is expected that the suggested model can be utilized in designing and managing health care services as well as other health-related programs.

  • Linear logistic regression is one of the most widely used method for credit scoring in credit risk management. This paper deals with credit scoring using splines based on Logistic regression. Linear splines and an automatic basis selection algorithm are adopted. The final model is an example of the generalized additive model. A simulation using a real data set is used to illustrate the performance of the spline method.

  • Wheat quality score index was proposed as a new criterion of wheat_quality for evaluation of the laboratory testing value such as milling rate (Xm), flour ash content (Xa), flour protein content (Xp) and sedimentation value (Xs). 1) Wheat quality score index was expressed as follows; Milling score index (MSI) $=2.3X_m-72.4X_a$ Protein score index (PSI) =$5.2X_p+0.9X_{psi}$ Composite quality score index (QSI) =$0.63X_{msi}+0.37X_{psi}$ 2) The samples with the more than 100 of MSI would be the good milliability, and the samples with more than 100 of PSI would be the good bread making properties, while that with less than 100 of PSI be good pastry type properties. Whereas most of the samples with higher value of QSI would be related to the good milliability and good bread making properties. 3) MSI, PSI and QSI were significantly correlated to the each related quality components.

  • Research on personalized recommender service that uses big data has gained considerable attention given the increasing volume of contents being created. This development indicates the need for service providers to collect personal information and content rating data to personalize content recommendations. Previous studies on this topic proposed algorithms to offer improved recommendations using minimal rating data or service designs and increase the number of ratings. However, limited studies have been conducted on the factors that motivate the ratings input of users, as well as the factors that influence their continuous usage of recommender service. The present study explored the factors that motivate users to enter ratings by conducting in-depth interviews with users who use recommender services. The meanings of these ratings were also explored. Results show that the meaning and usage range of ratings differed based on the stage of a user's with utilization of the service. When users input an initial rating, they treat such a rating as a database to save the impression of a past experience. Such a rating is then used as a tool to reflect the current feeling and thoughts of a user. In the end, users were not only interested in their own rating system, but they also actively sought out the meaning of the rating systems of others and utilized them. Users also expressed mistrust in the recommendations of the service because they were aware of the limitation of the algorithms. This study identified a number of practical implications regarding recommender services.

  • In constructing a credit scorecard, each characteristic variable is divided into a few attributes; subsequently, weights are assigned to those attributes in a process called coarse classification. While partitioning a characteristic variable into attributes, one should determine appropriate cutpoints for the partition. In this paper, we propose a cutpoint selection method via penalization. In addition, we compare the performances of the proposed method with classification spline machine (Koo et al., 2009) on both simulated and real credit data.

  • MovieLens data consists of recorded movie evaluations that was often used to measure the evaluation score in the recommendation system research field. In this paper, we provide additional information obtained by clustering user-specific genre preference information through movie evaluation data and movie genre data. Because the number of movie ratings per user is very low compared to the total number of movies, the missing rate in this data is very high. For this reason, there are limitations in applying the existing clustering methods. In this paper, we propose a convex clustering-based method using the pairwise fused penalty motivated by the analysis of MovieLens data. In particular, the proposed clustering method execute missing imputation, and at the same time uses movie evaluation and genre weights for each movie to cluster genre preference information possessed by each individual. We compute the proposed optimization using alternating direction method of multipliers algorithm. It is shown that the proposed clustering method is less sensitive to noise and outliers than the existing method through simulation and MovieLens data application.

  • We propose a method to analyze the user reviews and ratings of the products in the online shopping mall and automatically extracts the features of the products to determine the characteristics of a product. By judging whether a rating is given by a specific feature of a product, our method distributes the score to each feature. Conventional methods force users to wastes time reading overflowing number of reviews and ratings to decide whether to buy the product or not. Moreover, it is difficult to grasp the merits and demerits of the product, because of the way reviews and ratings are provided. It is structured in a way that it is impossible to decide which rating is given to the which characteristics of the product. Therefore, in this paper, to resolve this problem, we propose a method to automatically extract the feature of the product from the user review and distribute the score to appropriate characteristics of the product by calculating the rating of each feature from the overall rating. proposed method collects product reviews and ratings, conducts morphological analysis, and extracts features and emotional words of the products. In addition, a method for determining the polarity of a sentence in which the feature appears is given a weight value for each feature. results of the experiment and the questionnaires comparing the existing methods show the usefulness of the proposed method. We also validates the results by comparing the analysis conducted by the product review experts.

  • The fundamental concerns of this paper are to analyze the effects of some characteristics on the employment of new college graduated students in viewpoint of data visualization. We use individual and department characteristic data of K-university graduated students in 2010. We apply multiple correspondence analysis, decision tree analysis, association rules and social network analysis for data visualization. The results of the analysis are summarized as follows. First, an analysis of the determinants of employment shows that GPA, department category, age and number of majors, recruiting time affect the employment rate. Second, higher GPA and natural category of department positively affect the employment rate. Finally, low age, single major and early recruiting time also positively affect the employment rate.
